CHAPTER 14
CASSIAN'S POV
I can feel her capture through the mate bond. I don't know how, but I can feel her. All of her.
Her rage and her defiance. I don't even know who the person that took her is, and what they want her for.
She is just Nova. And unless someone from inside the pack is going around to tell other packs, I don't even want to imagine what could have happened.
“Come save me,” her voice comes again. I have already searched the whole compound, and asked the men around to do the same. She isn't there.
I try connecting to her through the mate bond, and everything is shaking. I can barely even reach her anymore. The only thing that I can feel is her rage. And the weakness of her powers and scent. It isn't going to be long until something wrong happens to her.
“Call the guards,” I order one of the guards and he gives me a firm nod as he walks away.
I run my hands through my hair, and Jason is there, staring me down.
He has been doing that the whole time. I don't know if that is the result of too much familiarity.
“What do you plan on doing?” Jason asks, and I genuinely don't have any good answer.
“Hunt, find, kill,” that is the response that my wolf gives me. And at that point, it feels like that is exactly what I want to do.
“You don't have an actual plan?” He asks, and I narrow my eyes at him.
“Why are you asking? Are you just going to stand there with your hands folded? Or are you going to help me find her?”
“The priestess says that she might have manipulated you into making her your mate.”
I close my eyes. I should have known that he was listening. He couldn't have been the one that took her away, could he?
“She didn't do any of that.”
“Are you aware that you're playing with fire?” He asks, and I am not even ready to give him a reply.
“You have been doing that very much.”
“And it doesn't make a f*****g difference.” I spit back.
He shakes his head. “Nothing about that girl is normal. Stopping to even help her was a mistake. We should have sent her right to where she came from. Fixed her car and sent her to be on her way. But you held her down instead. Marking her as your mate like nothing happened.”
I feel my jaw tighten at that statement.
I take a step towards him, and he takes one back.
Good.
“You're my best friend,” I say in a low tone. “Don't make that a thing of the past.”
I can see the slight tremble on his lips, and I can't help but smile to myself. He is the only one that can challenge me. But if it is going out of hand, who am I not to stop him?
“You should think like an Alpha regardless,” he says, and I lick my lips.
“I'm doing just that.”
I mutter.
The guards are finally assembled right in front of us, and I order them on the districts to check.
Some of them seem to hesitate, but they obey either way.
I immediately wear my helmet and get on my bike. There is something about the hum of the engine that just gives me some kind of thrill.
I ride out of the compound, with my hands on the handlebar and gear.
My eyes are fixed on the road as I still try to connect with her. Nothing comes out of that.
The bond flickers again, and I try not to groan in frustration. It is almost like she is being held down.
I have barely ridden for five miles when I spot another small group of motorcycle riders. I narrow my eyes at them as I ride past.
There is something about them, and I can barely stop myself from turning back.
They stop at just the same time like they are expecting some kind of interrogation. I don't disappoint as I get off my motorcycle.
I take in the sounds of our boots on the floor.
“What do you want?” One of the men asks, taking off his helmet. I narrow my eyes at him even further. Something is off. He knows more than he is willing to give on.
The rest of them follow suit, getting off their motorcycles. There are smirks on their faces. They know who I am. And they just want to push me further. To see how far I can go before I totally lose my mind.
“Where is Nova?” I ask, and they look at each other before bursting out in laughter. That is enough to make my hands ball into fists at my side.
“We have no idea who the f**k Nova is,” one of them says, and I find myself c*****g my head to the side.
“What are you going to do?” One of them asks, walking towards me. “You want to play the hero?”
I don't even know what I am doing when I slam my fist into his face. I can hear the satisfying crack of a bone. The others hurriedly attack me, and I can feel my wolf threaten to take over.
My nails are out, and so are my teeth. I claw into their arms. The plan is not to kill them, I don't even have the time for any of that.
I hold one of them by the throat. “Where is Nova?” I ask again, threatening to sink my claw into his throat.
“The warehouse down the road,” he says quickly, and I finally let him go.
I am just about to climb my motorcycle again, when I smell something.
It is the unmistakable smell of silver. I feel my heart beat accelerate. Who do they use it on?
I don't want to think that way. Silver is going to make me f*****g weak. But Nova is involved.
I swallow hard as I wear my helmet.
They think silver is going to stop me? Well, they can think again.
