AMBUSHED?

1111 Words
Though my sight seemed blurry, I could see a ventilator next to me. I think I'm in a hospital. I tried sitting up but then a nurse walked in at that same moment. She rushed and stopped me from sitting up. A man had also walked in with her, he was holding a bunch of flowers. The nurse was busy checking the instruments used on me while this fellow was standing right there, staring and smiling at me like I was some kind of sculpture or painting in an exhibition. "Hi, you're finally awake. My name's Jacob, I brought you to the hospital after you got ambushed in the woods," he said as he gently took my hand and held on to it. "Ambushed?" I said, trying to recall what happened. "Yeah, I saw you by the roadside while I was..." "Alright, that's okay for now, she needs a lot of rest so she can fully recover." The nurse said, cutting him short. "No let him speak, I'm perfectly okay nurse," I said as I sat up on the bed. "Go on, tell me what happened," I said to Jacob, leaning towards him and placing my left hand beneath my jaw. "Well, I was driving back from work late at night and I saw you lying by the side of the road looking incapacitated, so I quickly rushed out of my vehicle to find out what was wrong". "You had no injury but it seemed like you were incapacitated by someone or maybe you hit your head somewhere," he said while he was still holding on to my hand. "So how are you feeling now?" He said, staring straight down into my eyes. That alone made me have a melt-down. I don't think I've ever encountered anyone who could look so confidently speak and look at me. At this point, I was already feeling like a baby. "Yeah, I'm fine," I said with a childish voice. "Thank you for saving my life". I said to him, looking at his face to see what type of reaction he was going to give back. That way, I would be able to know if he was the decent type or not. "Come on you don't have to mention it, I wasn't going to just drive-by without making sure you were alright". He said to me in a very responsible and caring manner. I sat silent for a moment just staring at him, wondering...where the hell did this dude come out from. I've never seen him before or even seen someone that looks like him around. "I'm sorry, where are you staying? No, where are you from? Yeah, where are you from?" I asked him politely. "I'm from Texas. Is there any problem?" "Oh no, I'm just asking? I said hastily. Jacob had bald head, with a dark-black beard all round his face but shaved to a short length, and he looked very matured, well kept and manly. Even though I just met him, I can tell he's the type of man that pays great attention to detail. More like the direct opposite of my boyfriend; Drey. "Yeah, that reminds me. Can I call my family? I need to speak with them. Do they even know I'm here?" I asked Jacob, widening my eyes and lifting my eyebrows. "Hmm, we tried doing that earlier but you had no ID on you and no one here could identify who you were, so there was nothing we could do until you were awake," he said with a gentle, but yet authoritative voice. "I'll go get the nurse now so she can get their details and put a call through to them." "Wait. Where am I?" I asked him, feeling very confused about the whole situation because the last time I checked, I was a reporter and for no one to be able to identify me in this little town didn't really seem to make much sense to me. He chuckled and then replied to me, "you're in Texas, my lady". "What?" At this time I was filled with a bit of excitement and a huge feeling of disbelief and confusion. "How did I run from Westshire to Texas?" I asked myself. Was I that fast? Something is definitely wrong. By the time I was done giving my details to the nurse, he came back to see me and asked me what I would like to eat. I didn't have much appetite so I just told him to get some ice cream and any other food he felt like buying. "Hold on please, how long have I been in a coma?" I asked him while he was about leaving the room. "Exactly two weeks," he turned and said to me. I then took a deep breath and covered myself with the blanket that was on my sick bed. When he returned with the food, I asked him another question after he sat down. "You said you saw me while you were returning from work. I'm sorry, what work do you do? If you don't mind me asking," I said to him, still trying to examine who this my savior really is. He smiled and said, "Of course I don't mind. I offer cleaning services to most of the huge places in town, plus I have got some side hustles too." "Oh okay, that's nice," I said to him, but deep down I was feeling a little bit of discontentment, I kind of expected better. Suddenly, a memory flashed back into my head. I remember being struck on my left arm before crashing to the ground. I quickly looked around my left arm and chest to see if there were any markings or scar present there but there were none. He offered to feed me the ice cream he had bought. I was a bit hesitant at first, but then he succeeded in persuading me to let him feed me. It seemed kind of warming having a huge dude like him feeding me ice cream on my sick bed. I was already in the moment and he was even making silly jokes to make me laugh while he fed me. I was feeling very happy at this time and had forgotten all my problems until suddenly Drey walked in to see both of us smiling and making merry. To help my case even more, I had a spoonful of vanilla ice cream half way in to my mouth and Jacob was the handler of the spoon while Drey stood at the door entrance staring at the both of us with a clenched jaw and his face contorted with rage.
