The magicians in the desert
Far beyond the last village, where the earth became a sea of golden sand, there was a desert called Zahara. Travelers feared it because the dunes moved like waves, and strange lights appeared in the distance at night. But the desert had another secret. Hidden among the tallest dunes lived seven magicians. They wore long robes the color of moonlight and carried staffs carved from ancient desert trees. Each magician possessed a different power. One could command the wind. Another could speak to animals. One could turn sand into glass, while another could summon water from beneath the earth. The youngest was a sixteen-year-old magician named Amir. Unlike the others, Amir had not yet discovered his true power. One evening, the oldest magician, Master Rahim, called the seven together. “The Star of Zahara has disappeared,” he said. Everyone became silent. The Star was a magical crystal buried beneath the desert. It protected the oasis where thousands of travelers found water and shelter. Without it, the oasis would soon dry up. “We must find it before the Moonless Night,” Rahim continued. “If we fail, the desert will swallow the oasis forever.” The magicians set out before sunrise. They crossed mountains of sand, followed mysterious footprints, and passed through a valley where the wind whispered their names. On the third night, they discovered an enormous black tower rising from the desert. Amir felt something strange. “The Star is inside,” he whispered. Suddenly, the tower shook. A shadow rose from the sand. It was Zarok, an ancient sorcerer who had been imprisoned beneath the desert for hundreds of years. “You have come for the Star,” Zarok said. “But it belongs to me now.” The magicians raised their staffs. Wind screamed across the desert. Lightning flashed above the tower. Sand rose into the sky like a giant wall. Yet Zarok was stronger. One by one, the magicians fell. Amir stood alone. His hands trembled. “I don't know what my power is,” he admitted. Zarok laughed. “Then you have no power at all.” But Amir remembered something Master Rahim had once told him: “Magic does not always reveal itself through strength. Sometimes it appears when you have something worth protecting.” Amir looked toward the distant oasis. He thought of the children who played beside its wells. He thought of travelers who depended on its water. He thought of the other magicians who had trusted him. Suddenly, the sand beneath his feet began to glow. A brilliant golden light spread across the desert. The dunes stopped moving. The wind became silent. And from beneath Amir rose thousands of tiny stars. Zarok stepped backward in fear. “You command the stars,” he whispered. Amir lifted his hands. The stars rushed toward the tower, surrounding Zarok in a sphere of golden light. His darkness shattered like broken glass, and the Star of Zahara flew from the tower into Amir's hands. The ancient sorcerer disappeared. At sunrise, the magicians returned to the oasis. The moment Amir placed the Star beside the ancient well, water burst from the earth. Flowers appeared across the sand, and birds filled the sky. Master Rahim smiled. “You have discovered your power.” Amir looked at the glowing desert. “What is it?” Rahim answered, “You are not a magician of wind, fire, or water. You are a magician of light.” From that day forward, travelers told stories of seven mysterious magicians who protected the desert. But whenever they spoke of the brightest star appearing above Zahara at night, they knew it was Amir watching over them. And deep beneath the golden dunes, the desert itself seemed to whisper his name. Amir. the end
