Chapter 5 - Not Enough Answers

Becca's P.O.V

    It's now only a day before my sixteenth birthday now and that last two weeks I've been spending pretty much every waking moment with Jake. We have really taken the time to get to know each other and I'm so excited for us to take the next step. Both of our families have been pleasant with our relationship now as well. Everything is falling in place and I finally get to spend some time with Sarah. After all it's both of our birthdays tomorrow. 

    I walk into Sarah's room to see an unbelievable sight. It's Connor and Sarah...making out in her bed. I stare for a minute until I cough a little bit to let them know that I'm there. Both of their eyes snap over to me and instantly jump apart from each other. They both are starting to turn deep shades of red. After digesting what I just saw I run up to Sarah and hug her tightly, "Oh my god! Is Connor your mate?" All she does is nod shyly and I shriek! I hug her again.

    "If you ever hurt her or do something she doesn't like know that I will know about it and I will kick your ass so bad that you won't be able to move for a week. Understand?" I say looking at Connor.

    "Yeah I got it, but you don't need to worry. I will never hurt her and I will always protect her." Connor says with a smirk across his face. 

    "Yeah I know, but she's my best friend so I just have to make the threat be known just in case." I smile as I shoo him out of the room. "Now leave. It's my time with my best friend." I start pushing him out of the room while Sarah is laughing at my attempt to move his huge frame.

    After that Sarah and I spent the rest of the morning talking and gushing about the fact that we both have found our mates. We talk about Connor a little bit, but we spend most of the time talking about Jake. I confide in her my worries about Sally and other girls, but for the most part am in so happy with Jake. It's around lunch time so we decide to go make lunch and then watch movies and stay up all night together. 

    As we are heading to the kitchen we can hear some people having a conversation. But we can't make out who it is so we quietly look around the counter and it's Jake and Sally. I feel my heart breaking again, but instead I just listen to see what they are talking about. 

    "Sally I already told you that there was never anything between us. I slept with you once and that was months ago. I love Becca, she's my mate. You will never be anything to me again." I hear Jake explain to her and it makes me smile. Sarah smiles too and I feel content with the reaction.

    "Sleep with me one more time just to prove it to ourselves. If you don't then I'm going to go to Chase Rollins and tell him that we know that it's him that wants Becca and tell him all the secrets that he wants. You may not think I know anything, but when you thought that I wasn't there, I was and I know a lot that could hurt this pack." Sally says with a serious tone and then kisses Jake on the cheek.

    "Fine. Meet me in my room tonight and we will get this over with, but this is the last time that we ever do anything. Tomorrow night I'm going to mark Becca and we will be together and she will be your Luna." Jake agrees as Sally walks off with a smile on her face. Jake too walks out the back, I'm sure for a run because that's what he does when he needs to think about what to do.

    Sarah and I just look at each other for a few seconds. I feel like my heart is going to break again, but there's something that I can feel that makes me feel like I don't have to worry. I just shrug and look to Sarah and pull her into the kitchen to make lunch for ourselves. We take everything down into the basement and pick out a few movies to start with. We didn't speak a word to each other about what we overheard. I just wanted to ignore it and spend time doing our favorite birthday tradition.

    We are on our tenth movie of the night and it's around one in the morning when Connor comes down to check on us. I think this weird, but he's Sarah's mate so I let him be and don't give him a hard time about crashing our special time. We continue to laugh, eat popcorn and watch the movie. I feel so good right now that I almost forget about Sally and Jake. But that's when I feel my chest tighten a little, I try to ignore the feeling.    

    'Honey, I don't want you to freak out so I'm going to tell you what's going on. Jake is trying to trap Sally. We are waiting until her guard is completely down before grabbing her. I figured Jake didn't tell you so that you wouldn't be in danger. That's why I sent Connor down there with you girls. Stay there until I say so.' I hear my dad mind link me.

    'Thanks Dad. I love you. Be safe. You never know what she's capable of.' I respond and the refocus on the movie.

    We hear some loud crashes and a lot of yelling up stairs, but we just try to ignore it. Sarah is out cold though so it's just Connor and me. Sarah has always been a light weight of staying up late so it's natural for her to have fallen asleep on me, but I too can feel sleep taking over me. Connor got up a little while ago to watch the door I'm sure just to make sure that Sally or anyone else doesn't come down. After looking back at Connor one more time to make sure he's awake I curl up with Sarah and fall asleep.

    I slowly start to wake up, but quickly realize that I'm not downstairs anymore. It looks like I'm in Sarah's room. She's not beside me though. I sit up searching the room. I then can hear the shower going and sigh in relief knowing that she's okay. I keep looking around and I see Connor sitting by the door and Holden is on the couch sleeping. I go to ask what's going on, but then Sarah walks out of the shower and that's when Holden wakes up and everyone is staring at me. 

    "What happened last night? Where's Jake?" I ask wanting to be in his arms knowing that it was really all a trap for Sally and not for real.

    "Um, he's busy right now. But we're waiting for you two to get ready so that we can take you to the mall and you can do your birthday shopping like you always do." Holden says changing the subject rather quickly. Everyone looks a bit uneasy, but I choose to ignore it and go get ready. I just borrow some of Sarah's clothes not wanting to go down to my room to change. Once Sarah and I are both ready we are lead a different way out to the cars and the four of us are on our way to the mall.

    We walk the around the mall going in and out of stores trying to find our perfect outfits for our birthday party tonight. I try to stay in the moment with Sarah, but I can't help but think about Jake and where he is right now. I observe Sarah and Connor together and they are just so adorable. I know that they are so happy and even that makes me think of Jake. But that's when Holden starts to make conversation to distract me.

    "If it helps I know that Jake truly loves you. He has since that night that you shifted. I know that he doesn't seem like he's loyal, but he will be. It has taken everything in is power to give you space that last couple years to get to know your wolf and find who you are as both yourself and wolf together."

    "I'm just worried that one day he'll decide that he won't need me anymore and he'll just throw me away." I say quietly.

    "You know, he may have been hanging around a lot of girls that last couple years, but he never did anything with them. He just let them tell others that they did so that the girls would feel better. But he never did anything after he found out that you guys are mates." He tells me in confidence.

    "Why didn't he just tell me that then? Why all the secrets? Where is he and what's the plan to stop Chase?" I ask demanding to get some kind of answers.

    Instead Holden goes quiet for a minute thinking of what to say and just as he's about to answer my questions Connor interrupts us. He pulls all of us out of the current store that we are in. The topic is dropped and Holden keeps his distant from me after that. We continue to shop as I also continue to think about how I'm going to get answers to my questions.
