My Mate: The Player

Chapter 4 - More Questions

Jake's P.O.V

    She sits there rested against my chest and I can't help, but admire her strength and beauty. There's also so many questions that I want to ask. So many answers that I need to know. She says that she wants me to mark her, but just this morning she was running away from me. I'm deep in my own thoughts that I don't hear her say anything.

    "Uh? Sorry I zoned out. What were you saying?" I look down at Becca.

    "I was saying that you should just say what you want to. I can feel how tense you are." She snuggles in closer after she turns the television off.

    "We need to talk about this attack some more, but that can wait until tomorrow when both of our dads get back. But more importantly I want to talk about us. This morning you were running away from me and now you want me to mark you. Not that I don't want to, but I don't want to keep things bottled up, you know?" I say everything as seriously as I can. 

    She just looks at me. It feels like we have been staring at each other for a life time. I start to get lost her in her beautiful blue eyes. I swear I could just stare into them for as long as I live. She pulls away a little bit and sits across from me my wolf whimpers a little at the loss of her touch. She takes a deep breath and I know what she is about to say is important and going to be brutally honest.

    "Jake...It really did break my heart seeing you kiss that girl. But it broke my heart more when I couldn't reach out to you for help. I want to be with you more than anything, it just took the attack to realize it and for that I'm so sorry." A single tear falls down her cheek. I wipe it away gentle.

    I smile at her, both my wolf and I are extremely excited at what she has just told us. "My sweet girl." I whisper. "I too am so sorry. That b***h came on to me and I tried to pull away to stop her, but she was too quick for me. You mean so much to me and you were right, I should have told you when I first found out we were mates. I just didn't want to tell you when you weren't ready, you had just shifted for the first time and I was a punk all player who didn't want love at the time. But I know now that I love you."

    Becca is crying a little bit more, but I can tell that they are happy tears. She leans in and wraps her arms around my neck and I pull her in close for the hug. We bury our faces into each others' necks and just enjoy the moment. "I love you too." Becca whispers into the hug. We stay like this for a while longer until I hear Becca yawn. I know that we both have had a long day so instead of letting go of her I just scoop her up in my arms and take her to bed. We snuggle up and wait for the craziness of tomorrow. Soon enough sleep takes over.

The Next Morning...

    I hear doors slamming open and shut and yelling of some sorts, but I can't fully make it out as I'm not fully awake yet. I pull Becca closer to me just in case as I start to wake up more. That's when my bedroom door is slammed open and both my father and Becca's storms in. 

    "Get away from my daughter!" Warrior Shawn yells. 

    "She's my mate!" I yell back trying to assert my dominance. I pull her closer as she starts to wake up and I can feel her start to shake. 

    My dad is holding Warrior Shawn back, "Enough! Everyone calm down and get into my office, NOW!" He uses his alpha voice. Everyone follows the his order and goes to his office.

    Becca is now fully awake as we join everyone in my dad's office. "Daddy!" She says as she runs into her father's arms for a hug. I have to remind my wolf that it's just her father and not to get angry. So to distract myself I go hug my mother and shake my father's hand. Then I take a seat on the couch. To my surprise Becca comes and sits next to me and takes my hand into hers and I can't help but smile to myself especially when I can tell her dad is about to explode. 

    "Tell us what happened yesterday." My mother says calmly.

    I go to speak, but Becca beats me to it, "I found out yesterday that Jake is my mate. I had to think about things by myself for a little bit so I wondered off to an area in the woods. I go there often. I stayed there for a while, but then a rogue showed up. I never got a name, but he said that he was going to take me as his mate. Then another rogue joined him and I clawed his underneath side and wounded him pretty bad. I got a broken arm, but it should be healed by now. Then Jake and Holden showed up and saved me." 

    "Holden killed the injured rogue while I got Becca back to the house, but that other rogue got away." I add to the story.

    Everyone looks around at each other taking the whole story in and understanding what went down. I can tell that there is still some questions that we don't have answers to. Like why Becca? And who is this rogue that wants her? What is he planning? I know that we won't get any of these answers unless it's too late. But I refuse to ever let that happen and I think everyone is on the same page for that. Becca's safety is the most important thing right now.

    "Who would want to do this to me?" Becca finally asks breaking the silence.

    "It has to be someone that used to be a part of the pack, I would think. I mean unless a stranger has been watching you Becca." My dad offered up.

    "Well then you'll have to go through everyone that's been banished that can't be that long of a list right?" I say hoping that I haven't been blind to my father just banishing people all the time. 

    "There was this one guy that always used to try to get me to go out with him. I always found him really creepy, but come to think of it I haven't seen him in a while. His name is Chase Rollins." Becca adds and I can see everyone's faces light up like she was on to something, but nobody said anything more. 

    "We will look into this. In the mean time Becca you will have Jake, Holden, or another guard with you at all time, understood?" Becca just nods and I take her with me as we leave.

    I take Becca to her room so that she can get changed. After about ten minutes she comes back out in a cute workout outfit. I smirk at the sight and pull her in for a kiss. I try to be soft and tender knowing that she hasn't really been with anyone to seriously. I only pull back when I can feel my wolf try to take control and I know that Becca isn't ready for that. When I look down at her I can see the smile on her face and the blush that is creeping her neck to her cheeks. Man she is so adorable.

    'I can't believe she is our mate.' Hex gushes.

    'I know, aren't we pretty lucky.' I say back.

    Becca takes me out of my conversation with Hex by taking my hand and pulling me with her. I follow her lead as she takes me up to my room and she tells me to go change. I change into some basketball shorts and plain blue tee shirt. Again as soon as I'm back out she's pulling on my arm and I just follow her lead. We finally get outside to the training area when things are starting to make sense and I just smirk at her.

    "I know that I'm a great fighter, but I just want to see if I can actually take down an alpha when his guard is actually up. Then that will prove that I'm the best fighter." Becca explains to me with a sexy smirk on her face. 

    "Okay, I'm game to find out who's better." I smile at her as I take my shirt off to show off my six pack and all the other muscles that I know that I have. I throw my shirt off to the side and when I turn around Becca has also taken her shirt off and now I can see her equally sexy body in just her shorts and sports bra. I bite my lip knowing that this is going to be awesome.

    We stretch first just to warm up our bodies. After a few minutes we finish up and take our stances. We both have our hands up protecting our faces and ready to attack. We circle around each other both waiting for the other to make the first move. It feels like she is staring straight through me and I can feel my heart beat speed up. I can tell that she is trying to figure me out and what my strategy is going to be. I've been through the same training that she's been through. 

    She lunges forward and my stupid ass fell for it and I lunged too, but she was too fast for me and was able to pull herself back while I kept going. I couldn't believe that she fooled me. I can see the smile spread across her face with how pleased she is with herself. She now has the upper hand. At this point we have a crowd watching us fight to see who is going to win. At this point I start going after her and she returns the punches and kicks after a while I know that there still is no end in sight. I hear Sally talking with someone saying something about me and her and I let it distract me which is my biggest mistake yet. That's when my back is now on the ground with Becca on top of me with both hands pinned on either side of my head. I reach my legs up and wrap them around her waist and try to flip us so that I'm on top, but that ends up back firing on me and she kicks me over her and I flop down. I decide that she has won fair and square so I tap out. 

    Everyone cheers for Becca as she's won. As I get up Sally tries to run up to me and I can see that she is ready to throw her arms around me, but she's quickly pulled away by Becca. I look over and Becca has Sally pinned against the fence. "Stay away from my mate." She growls out and I'm thankful that everyone is preoccupied with themselves to notice what is going on. Sally's eyes get real big before she decides that she doesn't believe what Becca just said. 

    "Yeah right. Why would he end up with you? You're not good enough for him." Sally snaps at Becca. Becca goes to throw a punch, but I stop her before she can.

    "It's true Sally now stay away from the both of us." I say using my alpha voice and she bows her head and agrees, for now any way.

    I pull Becca into me and kiss her forehead. "No one is going to take me from you. I want to wait to tell everyone that we're mates though at least until your birthday and that's also when I mark you. It will all be so special for you." I say to her quietly so no one else can hear. "I want to take these next couple weeks to get to know each other." Becca nods understanding.
