Chapter 3 - Why Me?

Rebecca's P.O.V

    I have been relaxing around the water for a while and I could see that it was starting to get dark so I should probably get back. I get up and start to walk and take my time when I hear a branch snap behind me. Before I can even turn around I know this isn't good, I get overwhelmed by the smell of death. Rogues. They are the only ones of our kinds that can have a smell so unpleasant. I then decide to slowly turn around and to my surprise there is only of them. I try to back away to make a run for it, but the rogue sends me a warning growl to which I listen to. 

    We just stand across from each other, staring each other down, making sure that neither of us makes the wrong move. I try to think of a way to get myself out of this alive, but I am unsure of the intention of the rogue so I just keep still and think. After a few minutes I think about my mate and how much I want and need him right now. Then I though maybe I can reach out to him through a mind link, but I was unsure if that would work because of not having a link exist already. 

    'You truly are as beautiful up close as you are from far away.' I hear an unfamiliar voice in my head and my eyes widen. 'Yes, it's me that you are hearing sweetheart.'

    'Who are you? What do you want?' I ask back, the warrior in me wanting the information before I run or attack.

    'I want you. I choose you as my mate. I want you to rule my pack with me.' He says. I can hear the evil intentions behind his words.

    'You're a rogue and rogues belong to no pack.' I spit back angrily. I get into my attack stance, but wait for him to make the first move.

    'But you see when you're a rogue you can do whatever you please and I have been in the process of making my own pack with any and all rogues that want a new place to call their own. And I want YOU.' I gasp at his explanation. 

    I back up again getting ready to run when another rogue catches me off guard and rams me into a tree. I scream as loud as I can in efforts to try and link with Jake hoping he will be able to find me and fast because now it's two against one. I get up and shake off the attack and get ready to kill both of them. The rogue that I was talking to stays back for now just watching to see what happens between the other rogue and myself. 

    We almost do a little dance as we circle each other in order to see what the other is going to do. I know that I can wait him out, it's one of my best skills. My dad and I worked for weeks on my patience and in this moment I'm so glad that he did. I can see that he is getting agitated by me not making a move yet and I know that I have him right where I want him. 

    Only after a few minutes he leaps towards me and I slide myself underneath him and clawed his underneath. I can feel and see the blood on my claws. I know that I only hurt him, but at least it can be a little more even of a fight until someone else can get here. I turn to face the other rogue and find him running away from me. Confused I start to go after him until the rogue that I injured tackles me to the ground. Unfortunately for me he landed on my arm and I can feel it break, which causes me to whimper out. I go to push him off of me, but that's when another wolf attacks him before I could. 

    With the pain I shift back into my human form and clutch my arm to my chest. I'm left on the ground in only my underwear. I cry out in the pain I'm in as I hear the fight that is going on. All of a sudden I feel someone pick me up and I feel myself calm down a bit. I look up at who is carrying me and of course it's Jake. I sigh in relief of seeing my mate and I can feel my wolf calm down as well. I snuggle my head into his chest and take a deep breath. 

    "It's okay my sweet girl. You're going to be okay. I'm here for you." I hear him say quietly to me so no one else would hear. 

    After a while I can hear Jake call out for the pack doctor to meet us in his room. Everyone is rushing around trying to see what happened and if I'm okay, but Jake just continues to push past them all to get up to his room. Once there Jake lays me down in his bed and sits next to me running his hand through my hair to comfort me. Just then I want to tell Jake how much I want him so I turn to face him, but the pack doctor bursts through the door and interrupts. Jake moves out of the doctors way so that he can examine me. The doctor checks for any signs of concussion and any thing else that could be wrong. He finally gets to my arm and a sad look in his eyes. He looks up at Jake and gestures him to come back over.

    "Jake hold her still for me for a second while I snap the arm back in place so that I can set it." Jake nods at his instructions.

    I hide my face into Jake's neck while he holds my hand while I give my other arm to the doctor. I brace myself in Jake's arms and his presence keeps me somewhat at peace. I take a deep breath before I hear the sudden snap of my arm again and I scream. I can then feel the relief of my arm starting to heal the right way. The doctor quickly wraps my arm up in a splint to make sure that it stays in place in order to heal properly. I can feel myself getting tired and I know that Jake can sense it so he lays me down and throws a blanket over me.

    "Get some rest my sweet girl." Jake whispers and kisses my forehead. 

    I slowly close my eyes and fall into a deep sleep. The last thing I can see is Jake and the doctor walking out of the room.

A few hours later...

    I feel myself start to stir awake as I start to remember what happened to me. I sit up screaming and in a sweat. I start to search the room trying to figure out where I am. I start to freak out until I feel a familiar presence sit next to me. I look over and it's Jake pulling my into his arms and I just start to cry. The attack is coming back clearly and it just makes me cry harder knowing that someone is after me.

    "He's going to try and take me! Jake you can't let that happen. Please don't let that happen. Please!" I manage to get out between sobs as Jake pats my head and pulls me in closer to him. We sit like that for another ten minutes before I finally stop crying and pull myself together again. 

    "Who's coming to get you?" Jake finally asks now that I've calmed down. 

    "That rogue. He said that he chose me to be his mate and that he was putting a pack together full of rogues. He can't have me though because I'm yours." I say the last part with a small smile on my face and Jake pulls me even closer to him.

    "I'm so happy to hear you say that." He says and then kisses my cheek. I laugh slightly at this action.

    "I want you to mark me. I'm not ready for the mating part, but I'm ready for you to mark me and become yours." I say matter of fact and sitting up. 

    "Are you sure? I mean there's still things we need to talk about and I don't want to rush you." He says concerned.

    "Yes, I'm sure. When I was out there I couldn't connect with you and my dad was too far for me to reach him as well. I was so scared out there and there was nothing I could do to reach anyone. I tried so hard to connect with you and I assume it got to you because you guys showed up, but I don't ever want it to be that hard ever again to contact you." I start to shake as I explain my reasoning probably from the fear that I was remembering from the whole event. 

    Jake pulls me into his chest again. "We can talk more about it tonight. First, let's get some food into you and get you cleaned up. Okay?" I just nod at his suggestion. 

    We head downstairs and Jake heats up a frozen pizza for us and I sit on his couch and turn on the television. After about twenty minutes Jake joins me with two plates of pizza and two sodas for us. I take mine and relax back into the couch. We just eat and watch whatever show is on right now. Another thirty minutes pass and we both have finished dinner, but we still haven't said anything to each other. So, I decide to go take a bath real quick to clean up and not get my arm wet.

    "Hey can you grab me some clothes for me to change into, please?" I ask Jake sweetly.

    While I'm washing my hair I hear Jake come and set my clothes on the counter and then he left again, which I appreciated. I get out and dry myself off. I go to get the clothes and see that it's Jake's clothes. His shirt and a pair of sweatpants too. I'm just glad that I have my own underwear here so I  get dressed and join Jake back on the couch.

    "Okay I'm ready." I say confidently as I move my hair to the side in order to reveal my neck. 

    "Not so fast my sweet girl. I want to talk things out first and I want to wait until we tell our parents about us. Both of our dads will be back tomorrow so can you wait until then? Plus I want this to be special moment for both of us. So, let's just cuddle tonight and relax. You've had a very long day." He finishes and opens his arms for me. I decide he's right and settle into his arms and relax.
