Wake Up

{Feryn’s POV} It’s been three days since Arabella ran away.. three days since she was returned to the castle, and three days since her laughter had filled these halls. Knowing her.. is loving her, and I can help but to feel the emptiness left by her presence. Life here in the palace is lonely, and silent, there is no joy, no laughter, only anger, and frustration. It took this long to find someone like her, someone that makes this place feel like a home instead of a prison.. and I know that the kings feel it too, maybe except Adnromedus. I have been taking care of her, Shitari hooked her up to a bag of fluids to keep her in good condition, while Theluun made a nest for her out of pillows and blankets to keep her comfortable. Even NymKarna has come to visit with her, checking to make sure she’s staying healthy even in her comatose state. None of us expected to feel this way with her gone, and she’s only been here for four days.. I can’t imagine how broken we’ll all feel when these three months is up. I stared down at her, giving her a sponge bath, cleaning the sweat that had begun to form on her face. She’s been asleep ever since she returned, and no one can tell me why. Sometimes she murmurs in her sleep, she even cries.. but she doesn’t wake up. Tears spill from her eyes, and I wipe them away, a nearly endless cycle. I heard a soft knock on the door, and as I looked up I could see Shitari coming in to check on her. He smiled softly to me, before pulling out some of his equipment from his bag. He looked over her, before shaking his head. “I don’t understand..” he sighed. “I don’t know why she isn’t waking up.. she left the forest.. but she still won’t wake up..” his eyes scanned over her. Almost all of her cuts and bruises were healed up now, or at least in the later processes of healing. I looked up at him, sadness rising in my chest. “D-Do you think she’ll ever wake up?” I asked, reaching down and brushing her hair back out of her face. “She’s so kind.. she doesn’t deserve this..” He shook his head. “I don’t know.. I don’t know when or if she’ll wake up, and Theluun won’t talk about what happened out there, he just keeps saying that it isn’t his story to tell.. I feel like, if we knew, maybe we could help.. maybe something that happened out there, made her go into this comatose state.” I shook my head, looking over her. “There has to be something we can do.. something to help her.. something to wake her up..” “We’ve tried infusing our magic.. we’ve tried all of my medicines and poultices.. the only thing we haven’t tried is infusing all of our magic.. his royal as*hat hasn’t come out from his tower since Theluun had a talk with him..” I stood, straightening my dress and looking up to him. “Go.. gather your other brothers and bring them here. I’m going to get Andromedus.. we’re going to try it.. it has to work..” I muttered. “What if it doesn’t?” He asked, a question that had already popped into my mind, one that I didn’t want to know the answer to. I looked over my shoulder to him, shaking my head. “It has to.. cause if it doesn’t, I don’t know what I’ll do..” I said, turning and making my way up the spiral stairs to Andromedus’ room. I flung open the doors, finding him asleep at his desk. I was about to shout at him, when I noticed the books were all about humans, health problems, and comatose states. I paused for a moment, knowing if he knew I saw him, he may not help out of spite. I turned back, closing the door before knocking loudly. I heard the rustling of papers and things being thrown before the door flung open, him standing glaring down at me. “What is it Feryn?” He asked, his usual snark coming through his voice. “We need your help.. this is the last hope we have of waking her up..” I said, looking up at him. “I know you hate her, but please Andromedus.. do it for me, do it for your brothers!” I said, pointing down towards her room. “Your brothers have been infusing her with magic for days.. maybe.. maybe if you help.. it might be enough!” “You want me to infuse my magic into a human? Are you crazy?” He sneered, turning and walking back into his room. “Andromedus! You’re the reason she ran away! You’re the reason she’s unconscious! Just please, do something nice for someone else for once!” I shouted, grabbing his arm. “You were kind once.. and I understand that your father’s betrayal was a hard pill to swallow, but Arabella didn’t do anything to you! She just wanted to live a decent life for the three months that she has left! Please Andromedus! Help her!” I said, tugging him towards the door. I could see anger swelling in his eyes.. he’s the one who suffered the most because of their father, and normally I wouldn’t bring it up, no one has.. but he needs this push. He needs to know that he cannot get away with this. He took in a deep breath, letting it out before looking down to me. “Fine.. but if it doesn’t work, then you leave me alone, no more guilt tripping me, and no more asking me for anything!” He sneered. I nodded. “Fine!” I said, pulling him back towards Arabella’s room. When we walked inside Theluun and NymKarna began say something but I snapped at them. “He’s here to help, so no matter how you feel about him, deal with it! Let’s get this over with, then all of you can go back to whatever the he** this is!” I said, pointing down to Arabella. “Now, help her!” I watched as each of them surrounded her bed, placing their hands over her abdomen, a glow began to form on each of their palms. Gold for Theluun, red for NymKarna, green for Shitari, and purple for Andromedus. They lowered their hands, their magic all swirling around each others, and soon their hands came in contact with her. Her hair began whipping around, the curls whirling wildly as wind burst around the room. It was like a tornado, swirling about the space, I grabbed onto the pillar of the bed and held on tightly. Bright colors filling the room, and soon their hands wind died down, as did the colors leaving the room looking dull in comparison. Everyone stared down at her, waiting for movement, for anything, but instead she stayed in this state. Andromedus was the first to leave, turning on his heel and practically running from the room. NymKarna hot on his heels. Theluun brushed her hair back gently, making sure none of it was in her face, while Shitari checked the iv bag. Soon they both turned, walking out of the room. I went to follow them, when suddenly, I heard it, the soft voice of Arabella. “Feryn.. what happened?” She asked, sitting up slowly. Her body shook as she tried sitting up on her own. I ran to her side, pulling her into a hug, tears spilling down my cheek. “She’s awake!” I shouted loudly. The others came running, bolting into the room. Theluun ran to her side, Shitari beside him, NymKarna stood behind me, and Andromedus stood at the foot of her bed. “I’m awake? I-I don’t remember going to sleep..” she said softly. “What’s the last thing you remember?” Theluun asked, sitting down on the bed beside her. Her eyes went wide when she saw him. “T-The forest.. my father.. Phillip.. they were here.. they’re here! Where are they?” She asked frantically sitting up, her eyes scanning the room. Theluun grabbed her face, with a gentleness I didn’t know he had. “They’re not here.. it was just an illusion..” he said, holding her eyes with his. “It wasn’t real.” She looked at him, emotions I couldn’t read fluttering through her eyes. “Y-You were there.. you saw..” she whimpered. He nodded, watching her. “I didn’t say a word.. it’s not my place..” he said, brushing tears that had begun to spill from her eyes. She backed away, shaking her head. “Please.. don’t.. I just.. I want to be alone..” she said, pushing past us and running into the bathroom, closing and locking herself in. “What was that about Thay?” Shitari asked. Theluun only shrugged, turning back towards the bedroom door and walking away. “It’s none of our business, let’s give her some privacy.”
