CHAPTER 9 Maya groaned, pulling her pillow closer as she tried to resist the sound dragging her from slumber. The soft chime had only sounded for a few seconds, and she already knew she would answer it, hangover or not. She programed her device to silent mode when she was asleep. The only call able to bypass this, as per her settings, was the hospital. She buried her face into her pillow and groaned, reaching across the varnished nightstand, muttering a curse as she heard the loud thump of her water bottle hit the plush carpet.
