18 Kira’s thoughts circled as Trevor drove her back home. The murder weapon was gone. There was little doubt in her mind now that the rock was what had been used to bash in Elena’s skull. Why else would anyone go to the trouble of retrieving it? And to add insult to injury, Nick had told her that the only footprints that hadn’t been scuffed away from around the pool were her own. I should have just taken it when I found it. Her concerns about disrupting a crime scene had proved pointless. Still, she wondered what the hidden watcher in the forest would have done if she had taken action. She discarded the fantasy and focused on imagining how events had actually played out... Someone must have learned she had gone back to the garden shed. He had used one of the other exits from the house
