Trevor trailed after Kira as she entered her apartment. After waiting for Nick to speak to Mr. and Mrs. Stirling, they had both given him their statements about the discovery of Elena’s body—minus a few details to avoid mentioning the brooch. It had been a tense, challenging conversation. Nick was all business once he made the switch to official detective mode, which made dancing around the truth a mentally exhausting task.
