Sarah, stood in front of her closet, wondering what she should wear on the last first day of high school, this time next year, she would be off at college, far away from this place, far away from this town, and far away from her so-called parents. She let out a sigh. She grabbed a light pink lace tank top, and dark blue skinny jeans. After getting dressed she pulled on her knee-high leather high heel boots.
Before leaving her bedroom, she brushed her long light brown wavy hair into a high ponytail, put on some light pink eyeshadow to match her shirt, some mascara, and clear lip gloss. As she opened her bedroom door she waited and listened to see if she could hear her parents if you could call them that. When she heard nothing, she walked down the stairs into the kitchen looking around she could tell that no one else was home other than her. If her parents were home, there would be a stack of dishes in the sink that they would ask her to wash and clothes all over the place. She let out another sigh. Walked over to the refrigerator, and as she grabbed the handle to open it, she seen the note hanging on the door.
Sarah Dear, daddy and I had a business meeting in Colorado, and we will be gone for two weeks, there is money in the cookie jar we will call you as soon as we get there.
Love you,
Mommy
Sarah rolled her eyes, “Of course you are going to be gone for two weeks, you just got back why would I think that you guys would be here long?” she pulled out the coffee creamer and cream cheese. After started her coffee and bagel she walked to the cookie jar to see how much money they left her, normally it was always more then what she needed, whatever you didn’t use she saved and put toward college not like she needed it she had her pick of colleges all of which she had full rides to. As she counted the money left by her parents her bagel popped up in the toaster, and the coffee pot beeped letting her know that too was ready. Six hundred dollars for two weeks that was way more than enough. Sarah put cream cheese on her bagel and creamer in her coffee, put everything away, and walked out the door.
Sarah only really had two good friends, Karen, who was shorter, thin, dirty blonde, with green eyes, she wears glasses that framed her face perfectly, she was pretty though she never believed anyone when they told her that. Out of their little group she was the more friendly and bubbly of the three, she would walk down the halls smiling and waving at people. Next was Tina, she was taller, with long black curly hair, and dark brown eyes. She isn't mean but she isn't super friendly either, she is not the type to go out of the way to say hi to someone first unless she knows them, and even than most of the time you just get a smile out of her.
Sarah pulls into the parking lot of the school that sits behind the school, she parks next to Tina's car, which in the second row of the parking lot. She eats her bagel before stepping out of her car and heading to the football field, where the girls are waiting for her. She can hear them talking as she walks over to the bleachers, where they are sitting.
"I hear that he got kicked out of his old school for fighting too much." Karen says shrugging.
"I hear that he was in jail for part of last year for stealing a cop car." Tina adds shaking her head.
"Who are you guys talking about?" Sarah asking before taking a drink of her coffee.
"This new guy that is bad news." Karen says looking at me, "You haven't heard about him yet?" she adds looking a little surprised.
"His name is Evan his family moved here a few weeks ago, the moved in a few houses down from me, and he is hot, a total bad boy but hot." Tina shrugs. "How have you not heard about him yet, have you been living under a rock?"
"No, I have been busy filling out stuff for colleges, and the last few weeks we haven't really talk, after we went shopping a few weeks ago." Sarah says sitting down next to her best friends
It was true the girls hadn't really spent much time together, or really talked in the last few weeks, after the trip the made to the next town over to go to the mall and school shopping they all got busy with stuff for college and getting ready for school. The bells rings, telling them, that it was talk to start making throw way inside. Sarah pulls out her phone, to look at her classes, she was lucky she had a few classes with her friends this year. As she walked through the doors, she, felt like she ran into a brick wall. She looks up from her phone to see who or what she ran into. No other than Evan himself, he is wearing dark blue jeans with a whole in one of the knees, a white t-shirt, and a leather jacket. His hair is black, with icy blue eyes, he has a smirk on his face, as he looks down at Sarah looking at her in her eyes.
“I- I am so sorry, I didn’t mean,” Evan holds up a hand to cut her off.
“Don’t worry about it.” He looks at her and smiles, giving he a wink before he walks away.
The bell rings again telling the students that they have five more minutes to get to class before they are late. The girls making their way to their homeroom class, this year the girls are in the same homeroom, Mr. Schimt, he is a younger teacher, thin, tall, dark brown hair, and his eyes are like pools of honey. The girls walk into the class, heading to the to the second row of desk, Sarah on the right, Karen in the middle and Tina on the left. Sarah pulls out a book that she was been running sitting it on her desk, making pulls back out her phone making sure that her ringer is off. She wondered if her parents had made it to Colorado yet, and if they really would call her as soon as they got there, more than likely they would wait until school was out, and even then, she would be the one calling them.
Sarah and her parents were once very close, they would spend every Sunday night together they would eat a homemade dinner that her mom and sister would cook while Sarah and her dad would make a dessert together. After dinner they would watch a movie, they would take turns picking one out. Things haven’t been the same for five years now. After her sister died her parents throw themselves into work, they were never home, they would always take business trips, that didn’t start until Sarah started high school. Sarah got that her parents lost a child but what they didn’t understand is that, on that day Sarah lost not only her sister, but her best friend and slowly after started to lose her parents. Growing up she could tell that they never really cared about her, they only really cared about Mary, when she was younger and her mom was mad at her for whatever she would always say that she only ever wanted one child, and never wanted Sarah. Her dad was not much better, he didn’t care that they had a second child however he wanted a boy. When they found out that they would be having another girl they were both mad. Her dad would tell her, that he wanted her to be a boy, he would never make time for her, but would drop everything when it came to Mary. Sarah stopped playing sports because she didn’t see the point in it if she was going to just be let down when her parents didn’t show up, Mary always made it to every game when she could. Mary would have been twenty years old tomorrow, thinking about Mary always made Sarah sad, luckily Sarah’s friends were great and always made sure that she was not alone on Mary’s birthday.
“Sarah are you listening to me?” Karen grabs Sarah’s hand pulling her out of her thoughts.
“No, I am sorry I wasn’t.” Karen looks over at Tina they give Sarah a smile, but they are both worried about her they always worried about her around this time.
“We were talking to you about tomorrow night we wanted to see if you wanted to grab pizza or if you wanted to grab a hamburger.”
The girls talk about what their plans are for tomorrow night, and their classes. As they talk, they notice that the class grow quit. They look around to see what happened, Sarah looks at the door and see Evan enters. Sarah looks into his icy blue eyes, as the light hits, he pale skin, she sees the scar next to his right eye, it is light and faint, but it is there. Sarah wonders if it is from a fight that he was in. His eyes are beautiful you could get lost in them, and Sarah did. She didn't even notice that he was walking right for her. She seen his mouth moving but couldn't hear the words that he was saying.
"What" she said it coming out faint and low.
"I asked if I could sit here?"
Sarah couldn't find the words to say.
"Yes, you can sit there," Karen says looking at Sarah, "sorry Sarah is just not herself today."
"What?" Sarah says again, they all look at her, she could feel her face turning red and pulls open her book sitting on her desk to hide her face. Evan smiles at her, even his smile could make you melt, he slides into the seat.
Sarah looks over at Karen and Tina who are staring at her, wondering what was going on with her as Sarah herself was even wondering the same thing, she looks at them and mouths "Oh my God", Tina and Karen look at her both, of them, trying not to laugh at her. "What the hell is wrong with you?" Karen whispers to Sarah, and she shrugs. Tina just shakes her head at her.
The rest of homeroom all Sarah could think about was getting out of this class, she could smell Evan, who smells like Axe and faintly like cigarette smoke. Mr. Schimt is talking about upcoming events that were going to be happening, reminding us that there are sign-up sheets by the office for clubs and the musical. Sarah keeps looking at the clock wishing for class to be over. When she wasn't looking at the clock she was looking "reading" her book but really, she would look over her book at Evan. She could feel her friends looking at her, but she didn't care, Evan had taken off his jacket laying in down on the desk in front of him. As he leans forward on his desk, she can see his shirt tighten over his arms, as he moves them in front of him and lays his head down on them. She looks from his arms to his shoulders and down his back his shirt is tight enough that she can see how built he is. The bell rings, Evan stands up, turning at looks at Sarah and smiles and gives her a wink before walking away as if he knew what she was doing the whole time.
The rest of the day was a blur so much so that Sarah doesn't remember driving home. Sarah heads upstairs and puts her bag in her room, then heads downstairs to get something to eat. Sarah's phone rings.
