Prologue
He wasn't eating. He just sat there, playing with his food. He seemed lost. Like he was having some sort of internal battle with himself. Something was wrong, I could feel it.
He'd been acting very differently since he came home from work the day before. While he'd usually kiss my cheek everyday when he got home from work, yesterday he'd just greeted me and headed straight to bed telling me that he was tired. Though I'd been surprised, I'd paid no attention to it. Until today when he'd done the same thing. Though I had managed to convinced him to have dinner with me this time.
"Ray, what's wrong? "I asked him.
He snapped his head up so fast I thought I'd hear a c***k.
"Huh? Nothing. I'm okay. It's just work, no big deal"
I didn't buy it. At all.
''Raymond,"I said calmly. I knew Ray almost as much as I knew myself. It wasn't 'just work'
''I promise I'll tell you, Babe. I want to know if there's any way out of it first,"he said reaching for my hand on the table. I pulled it back, out of his reach.
''Out of what, exactly?" I asked.
He looked at the ceiling and ran his hands down his face. One could easily see the bags under his eyes. He seemed so stressed. I hated seeing him like this.
"You won't like this one bit, Mel,"he said.
I stood up and went to stand behind him, rubbing his shoulers.
Then I kissed his neck.
"It can't be that bad,"I said.
There was silence for a few minutes, then he said it.
"I'm getting married. "
