Joel arrived at Mooney’s, racing through the entry like a madman, searching for Piper. When he didn"t immediately see her, he felt a moment of panic. Then he remembered that she had Daisy with her and hurried out to the outside deck, Scout at his side.
Joel had a moment of relief when he spied her at the far end of the boardwalk, sitting at a table looking out to the beach. Oddly enough, he felt his relief turn to anger as he noticed her calm demeanor. She didn"t look at all frazzled by what had happened in the marketplace, not like he was, anyway.
"Are you okay?"
It only took Joel a few steps to reach the table, and his brief anger disappeared when she jumped in fright at his voice. Clearly, she was more rattled than she appeared.
