“Mom! I don’t want to!”
I heard my Aunt shout from the living room the next day.
“I’m not asking you! And you don’t have a choice. When I say you’re going on a date, then you’re going to.”
Grandma shouted back. I looked at what was happening from the hallway on the second floor. Aunt stomped her feet, irritated.
“You’re being unreasonable, Mom.”
“Unreasonable it is, I don’t care.”
“Why do you want me to go on a date so badly?”
I can hear the frustration in my Aunt’s voice.
“You’re already 26, Alicia. I know you have never once dated. You’re not young anymore.”
Aunt messes with her own hair out of frustration.
“26 is not old yet!”
“I don’t care what you think! I expect you to meet my friend’s son this afternoon. Leave this house if you can’t do it.”
“Mom!!!”
“I won’t change my mind even if you wail.”
Grandma firmly stated.
“You! Didn't I tell you that it’s bad to listen to someone else’s conversation?”
Mom grabbed me on my shoulder. She pulled me to my room.
“But they’re loud, Mom. It’s impossible not to hear them.”
“I know. But you, young man, didn’t just listen, you even peeped through the gaps in the railings.”
She flicked my forehead.
“Ouch, Mom.”
“That’s your punishment for being nosy to your Aunt and Grandma. Now, strap your bag and go to school. You don’t want to be late, right?”
“Fine.”
My nanny is already waiting for me outside my room. She and the driver are just going to drop me off at school and will fetch me in the afternoon. When we pass by the living room, Grandma and Aunt are still arguing. I said goodbye to them, but they obviously didn’t hear me. I just shrugged and let my nanny drag me towards the car.
