“Why are you two together?” Mom asked when we arrived home. “Why not?” Aunt asked back. Mom ignored her and looked at me instead. “I saw them at the coffee shop so tada!” Aunt answered. Maybe she’s afraid that I’ll spill the beans. “What happened to your date, Alicia?” Grandma asked. She turned around to face me. She put a finger on her lips. I nodded. She smiled at me before facing Grandma again. “It went well, but I don’t think a second date will happen.” Went well? On her part, absolutely! But the date overall was a disaster. “What did you do?!” “Nothing! You told me to go and I did. Now you won’t have a choice but to let me stay here.” “Fine!” “Yay! Nothing beats free food and a place to sleep. If you’re so doubtful of me, you can ask little Tobias here. He saw me with the man earlier at the coffee shop.” Grandma looked at me. I nodded at her, confirming what my Aunt claimed to be true. I didn’t lie. It’s true that she met the guy. Let’s just say that I hid those extra details. Grandma slouched defeatedly. Forgive me Grandma when you learn what really happened in that coffee shop. “Do you have something you want to tell me?” Mom whispered to me. “I’d rather not talk about it, Mom.” I whispered back. “She did something weird, didn’t she?” Weird? It was way more than weird. “All I can say is your sister’s crazy, Mom.” My uninteresting and normal life just turned upside down. Gone is the monotonous life. Hello to the colorful craziness of someone. “I know. Go change your clothes. Then we’ll eat some snacks.” I went to my room and changed my clothes. “Here! My thank-you gift for not ratting me out.” My Aunt gave me a bar of chocolate. She’s waiting for me outside my room. “Now you’re bribing a child?” “You don’t want it? Then I’ll take it back.” Before she could snatch it back, I quickly hid it on my back. “See? You’re a devil’s spawn, you like my bribe.” “Tobias! Come and eat your snack here.” Mom shouted. “This bar of chocolate is not enough. This is just a down payment, Aunt Alicia.” I said her name in a sweet way. She rubbed her arms as if she got goosebumps. I stuck my tongue out at her before running downstairs. “Didn’t I already tell you to not run along the staircase? What if you trip and fall?” “Sorry, Mom.” “Gosh, it’s only been a day since your Aunt was here, but you’re becoming a pain like her. What to do with both of you? Mom and I are going to die early because of frustration.” I know I shouldn’t be happy with what Mom just said, but I can’t help myself. Right now, the most interesting person in my life is Aunt Alicia. And I hope Mom forgives me, but I want to witness more of her crazy antics.
