Alexis yanked out her cell, reading the text message Lynn had sent her. She smiled when she read her words, ‘Cal is a doll. I wanted to let you know she’s okay since I knew you would be worried. Be careful out there.’ Alexis jumped when she felt a hand on her back. She spun around and came face to face with Katie. “Katie, I wish you would stop sneaking up on me like that.”
“I didn’t sneak. I called out your name. It’s not my fault you didn’t answer me.” Katie crossed her arms and glared at Alexis.
“Sorry. I just received a text from Lynn.” Alexis closed her phone and shoved it into her pocket. “Anything new?” she asked.
“No. I don’t think we’re ever going to get a f*****g break!” Katie kicked at the sand and plopped down with a thud. “I can’t handle this, Alexis.”
