Dean x Reader
Sam wasn't the only one who fell into the cage with Lucifer and Michael, and he wasn't alone when brought back.
Pulling up in front of the old house Dean parked Baby and turned off the engine. Opening the door and climbing out he turned to look at Sam across the top as he stretched, "I still can't believe you ran into that vamp nest like that. Normally I'm guns blazing while your the man with a plan. What were you thinking?"
As both men began walking towards the porch Sam shrugged, "No point in waiting around, seemed like the most logical thing to do."
Dean frowned slightly but shook it off, "Whatever man, hopefully Bobby's got another case for us. If not I wouldn't mind hanging for a few days and taking a break."
Making their way through the front door just like any other day they stood in the entryway listening for the crazy old man. "Bobby you home?!" Dean shouted.
"Balls!"
Both brothers shared a look before walking towards the kitchen, hearing a chair slide across the floor they were surprised to see Bobby sitting at the kitchen table, worried look on his face. "Hey there boys, what can I do for ya?" Standing up he walked forward to stand directly in front of them while crossing his arms, "Um Bobby, you okay?" Dean tilted his head.
Nodding and unfolding his arms Bobby nodded, "Yeah boy I'm fine, what are you idgits doing here? Thought you were working a vamp nest two states over?"
Sam walked past the old man and sat at the table, stretching his long legs out, "Took care of it, came by to see if you had another case for us."
Dean moved towards the fridge, reaching in he smiled as he withdrew a bottle and popped the top, 'Or if you don't that's fine we can just hang for awhile."
"No! Uh, I mean, yeah I should be able to find you boys something. Just give me a minute." Bobby took off towards his study, as the men watched him sit down and pick up his phone they once again shared a look.
Dean came to sit across from his brother and took a sip of beer, "He seem off to you? Kinda like he doesn't want us here?"
Sam nodded, "Somethings definitely off, whatever it is I'm sure it's fine, its Bobby."
Hearing Bobby say goodbye to someone both men turned to look as he walked back into the kitchen, "Friend of mins thinks there's a ghoul case out in Virginia, if you leave now you should make it there in no time."
"Bobby, you okay? You seem like your sort of, I don't know, worried about something. Your in a rush to get us out of here like you've got a girl upstairs or something." Dean smirked and thought he was being cocky, the look that came across Bobby's face told another story. Seeing this Deans smile turned to confusion.
"Wait, do you have a girl upstairs?"
Before Bobby could answer Sam seemed to realize what was wrong, "She's here, isn't she."
Bobby's head whipped around to glare at the taller brother, "You knew the deal, you were supposed to call before coming here."
Dean kept moving his head looking at each man, confusion all over his face, "Guys? What's going on?"
Sam stood up, "I tried to call, you didn't answer. How was I supposed to know, last time we spoke she said she was sticking to the southern states."
Before anyone could say anything else footsteps were heard coming down the stairs, a voice rang out, one that made Deans heart stop.
"Is that you Sam? I thought I heard the impala pull up but I wasn't sure until.."
Stopping in the door you froze, you'd expected to see Bobby and Sam, but not Dean. He looked the same, sandy brown hair, bright green eyes, freckled nose, and a body made for all things sinful. Taking a step forward your first reaction was to run to him but you stopped yourself, reality crashing in.
"Sam what are you doing here, we had a deal," crossing your arms you forced your gaze away from the frozen Winchester. Dean slowly stood up, his face showing instant shock which quickly began fading away in a rush of other emotions. Stealing a glance back and locking eyes with him you once again felt your heart flutter.
"You, your supposed to be, how are you, what's going on here?" Dean couldn't comprehend what was happening, you were here, you were alive.
"Sorry Y/N, didn't know you were here, last i checked you were keeping south." Sam said although he didn't actually seem to care either way.
"Yeah well figured a change of scenery was in order."
Dean shook his head, shooting looks at everyone around him, "Okay hold on, what the hell is happening here, you," he shot you a look full of pain. "Last I heard you were Lucifer's plaything in the cage, when did you get back?"
Shifting from one foot to the other you looked at the ground, "Dean I, it's sort of a long story..."
"She came back the same night I did, we both woke feet from each other, brought back with no explanation." Sam moved to grab a beer for himself as though he wasn't blowing up his brothers world right now.
A look of hurt and betrayal swept across Deans face, lifting his eyes to meet yours your heart broke seeing them water, "You've been alive for a year and a half? Did you even bother to look for me?" Now anger showed clearly through the range of emotions Dean felt. "I thought I lost you and Sammy that day! I though my entire world was gone, I watched you both fall into that pit! I wasn't quick enough to save you when Michael grabbed your arm and pulled you in with them. Do you know how that made me feel! All this time I felt that loss and pain and you've been topside this whole time!"
Tears formed in your eyes as you stood there, not knowing what to say, "Dean I..."
"Save it!" Dean threw his hands in the air, "At least Sam eventually came back, you just moved on with your life. As though those years hunting together never mattered, as though I never mattered!"
Bobby took a step towards Dean, slightly blocking you, "Boy you better can it before I do it for you or your gonna end up saying something you'll regret."
Dean huffed and turned around, his back to you as the tension in the air only grew. Looking at his brother Dean shot him a glare, "And you, why the hell didn't you tell me? Why did you keep this from me, you knew how I felt about her!" Turning back around Dean once again pierced you with his anger fueled gaze, stepping forward until he was right in front of you his body towering over your own, "I loved you damnit! But obviously that never meant anything to you!"
"DEAN!" Bobby's anger filled voice boomed through the room.
Feeling the tears fall down your face you realized you'd heard enough, anger began seeping in to replace the guilt. Narrowing your eyes you let your arms drop then brought one hand up and across Deans face, shock registered as he brought up a hand to rub his sore jaw. His eyes finally seemed to take in your defeated look and the tears streaming down your face. Guilt hit him hard as he took a step forward, "Y/N I..."
Turning around and walking straight out the door you didn't let him finish speaking, it hurt too much, all of it. Seeing Dean had brought back every feeling from before you and Sam fell, you'd loved the oldest Winchester, hell who were you kidding, you still did. Walking through the rows of used cars you let the tears fall freely and the pain course through your body, until now you'd been good at hiding from the memories and the constant pull to contact him. Now here he was, the truth came out, and it went how you'd expected. Sitting on the ground with your back leaned against an old tire while bringing your knees up you let the tears fall, unable to stop them this time.
Back in the house the angry silence of the kitchen had all three men breathing heavily, Bobby shook his head, "Boy you really don't know when to quit do you, if you'd have given her a damn minute instead of flying off the handle you'd know the whole story."
Shaking his head and moving to sit back at the table Dean huffed angrily, "What story Bobby, the fact that she came back from hell and didn't even come find me? Yeah, I feel so much better."
"Actually the first thing we did was look for you." Until now Sam had stayed mostly quiet, almost seemingly bored with the current situation. Deans head snapped forward at his words, "What did you say?"
Setting his beer bottle on the counter Sam crossed his arms, "After we surfaced we tracked you down, all she talked about was finding you, said she needed to see you." Dean slowly stood up, fear making him realize where this might be going, "And?"
"We found you, got there that night, just in time to see you, Lisa and Ben eating dinner. Looked like a happy family."
Closing his eyes Dean rubbed them with his hand, guilt swamped his whole being, washing away all the anger. Clearing his throat Bobby took a step forward, "Listen Dean, seeing you like that, with the life you'd always wanted, she didn't want to take that from you. When her and Sam came to me a few days later she made us both swear if we ever heard from you again to keep her out of it."
Looking up Dean gave his father figure a nod then turned to walk out the front door, determined to find you.
After a few minutes your sobs began to quiet down and you tried to breath deep, suddenly hearing footsteps you rubbed harshly at your eyes to rid yourself of any tears. A pair of worn out boots came into view in front of you, lifting your head your heart fell seeing Dean standing before you, hands in his pockets. "Hey."
Sniffing as you wrapped your arms around your knees you looked down, "If your gonna yell at me again just get it over with."
Hearing Dean sigh you were surprised when you heard him move to sit beside you, he was so close you could feel his arm brush slightly against yours. "I shouldn't have yelled, I'm sorry Y/N. I was just, I was in shock you know? I mean, I've dreamed of this moment a million times but never did I actually think it would come true. And it definitely never went down like this."
Keeping your gaze turned away you wiped at your cheek as another tear fell, "How was it supposed to go?"
Dean smiled but you couldn't see it, "Well, first off you were supposed to be in a bed, wearing nothing but a sheet and we would spend days just..."
You couldn't help the laugh that bubbled up, "Shut up, perv." Lifting your head you finally looked at him, Deans smile faded once he saw the pain in your eyes. Turning slightly he lifted one hand and wiped at the newest tear to fall, "Why Y/N?"
Sighing and lifting your hand to grip the one he held to your face you closed your eyes for a moment, "Because you were happy. Looking through that window my heart broke, it took everything I had not to run in that door. But seeing you, seeing the smile on your face. Dean you had everything you wanted, I couldn't give you that, I still can't." With this you pulled his hand from your face and stood up, brushing the dirt from your jeans.
Turning back slightly you pushed both hands into your pockets, keeping your eyes on the ground, "It's good to see you again Dean, really. Just go back to Lisa and Ben, I'm happy you found what you wanted." Taking a step forward you heard Dean scramble to stand, "Y/N wait!"
Running forward he grabbed your arm and spun you to face him, forcing your chin up with his finger Deans confused face met your pain filled one. "Lisa and Ben are gone, when Sam came and got me I went back to hunting. We tried to make it work but it just didn't, their living a happy life now, monster free. Besides, what you saw may have been a happy time, but it wasn't what I really wanted."
Tilting your head your heart beat picked up as Dean pulled you against his chest, his eyes staring into yours, "You know why?"
Flustered by the way he held you no words seemed to surface so you simply shook your head. Dean smiled at you and lifted one hand to cup your cheek, "Cause you weren't there. I don't want the apple pie life, at least not right now, I want you."
Fresh tears began to spill over only this time they were happy, leaning forward you weren't sure if this was another dream of yours but just in case you were determined to make it count. Wrapping both arms around his neck you pulled him down until your lips met in a bruising kiss, one you'd both waited too long for. Pulling back a moment later you smiled wide and leaned forward laying your head in the crook of his neck. "Is this real?"
You felt the chuckle pulse through Deans body and his arm moved to rub your back, placing his lips against the top of your head you could hear the smile in his voice, "Yeah sweetheart, it is."
