Chapter 19 - Morning Bang

Fiona My fingers ran through Levi's chest hair as I lightly traced the tattoos that decorated his skin. Laying next to him and feeling the warmth of his skin against my own as I listened to the sound of his beating heart helped to ease my mind. And lately, I have needed that more than ever. I thought that life had finally calmed down after everything that had happened, things seemed like they were on the right track. I was able to stop pretending to be someone I wasn't, and that simple task of being honest about who I was ended up benefiting my psyche more than I can explain. Dragons were now living peacefully with those they loved, whether it be their chosen or their fated. Levi, Fafnir, Tiamat, and Quetzalcoatl equally shared the responsibilities of being not only the dragon deities but the new elders as well. They balanced each other out and also kept one another in check. Though, I have to admit that their mates had a helping hand in the last part. I had sent all of my female warriors out to Sloane and Niamph's to help teach their females how to fight in battle. The three of us and Cerulean all agreed that we would rule over our fairy kingdom together, while Roxanne thrived at doing what she does best .... being a warrior. And not just a warrior, but the first female general to be exact. Meanwhile, Dhara, Sharia, and Maya moved in with Matthew, Jordan, and Trenton, and they were simply taking time being young adults in love. A part of me was envious of the fact that my nieces got the freedom to be themselves at a young age, something that I never had the chance to really experience until it was almost too late, but I couldn't be happier that I helped that become possible for them. After Senora was put into the spotlight of media attention, it was decided that it'd be in her best interest if she and Cole went to Arizona to stay with Niamph until further notice. It wasn't a decision that was made lightly, and she fought it tooth and nail, saying that without Lian being here, and with Beckett moving back into his house with Joseline, I now had no warriors residing with me for protection. I had to remind her that Levi was now here and that it was up to the two of us to protect each other. I miss her more often than not. "How about we lock ourselves in the bedroom and never go out into public again?" I whispered into Levi's chest. "I think that's a brilliant idea," he replied as he softly ran his hand up and down my back. But before we had a chance to start the morning off with a bang, a desperate knock came from the front door. "Who the f***k is that at this hour?!" I yelled out in frustration as I flung the blankets off of myself and made my way towards my dresser to grab some PJs to put on. The knocking became even louder and more relentless as Levi got out of bed. I held up my hand as I made my way toward the pounding, "I'll handle it, Levi! If it's another news station asking about Senora, I'm going to send a stream of water right up their ..." "Fiona! Open the fu.cking door!" Cerulean's loud and demanding voice echoed in my mind, making me wonder if Rhi giving us all the ability to link with each other was really a good idea. "Cerulean?! What the ...." I stopped mid-sentence as I flung open the front door and Ceru barged in, holding Roxie tightly in his arms, followed by about a dozen fairies. "Before you ask, she's fine. She passed out, but sh.it's getting deep out there Fi. Real deep ..." Cerulean said as he gently laid Roxie down on the couch. Cerulean and I made our way towards the kitchen as the fairies that he brought with him made themselves at home. Thankfully, my fated soulmate read my mind without me having to say anything, and already had the coffee brewing. "What are you talking about, Ceru?" I had a hard time calling him by his nickname, Blue, during such a serious time. After we both sat down at the table, Ceru leaned his forehead in the palms of his hands before letting out a sigh, "Humans .... I don't know who, or why. I just know that they were humans. They started cutting everything down around us .... Our homes, Fi. The trees, the forest, all of it. Our guards are gone, and the rest of us were sleeping when I heard the chainsaws. The trees were falling all around us. Roxanne being Roxanne started healing those who were injured as we tried to get others out of their homes. Those mother fu.ckers pushed us right into an awaiting forest fire .... Fiona, they knew we were there. This wasn't accidental." The knots that formed in my stomach started creeping their way up my throat, and I quickly reached for the coffee that Levi set out for me, hoping that the hot beverage would dissolve it. After I was confident in my ability to speak, I reached over and laid a hand on Cerulean's forearm, "Where is everyone else?" Cerulean cracked his neck before taking his cup of coffee in his hands, "I woke up the girls when we got close and sent a few with each of them as I made my way here. They wanted me to tell you that they're going to do a perimeter sweep with their mates. They are their mother's daughters ....." he took a sip of coffee before proceeding, "We need to get Sloane and Niamph here. We need to figure out what's going on in the world and how to handle it." "They're trying to initiate a purge," Levi said in a deep and solemn voice as he sat down with us. Cerulean and I both looked at my mate like he was speaking a foreign language that we didn't understand. "What do you mean, a purge? Like, the humans are doing this on purpose to wipe us out?" I asked as I leaned back in my chair, understanding exactly what Levi was saying but not believing it. Levi's aqua orbs shifted between Cerulean and me, "The government can't have all the citizens believing that we exist. Once they start opening their minds and believing things they're not meant to, they're going to start seeing a lot more other than the supernatural. Next thing you know, they're going to start questioning their leaders and demanding answers. The government will take as many of us out as possible to lessen the risk of the entire world believing. They'll blame whatever happens on natural disasters or human negligence, like a forest fire, to cover it up. The media will somehow turn the humans against each other, so it'll be the crazy conspiracy believers against the sane followers. The hate will draw their attention away from the real issues, and they'll be fighting each other instead of who they should be. Hatred among the people keeps them complacent sheep." I let out a sigh as I shook my head, "And here I thought that our council was manipulative ...." Before any of us could say anything else, a large explosion was heard in the distance, and the three of us looked at each other as we stood up and hurried to the front porch. The other fairies joined us as we all searched the beautifully colored morning skies, looking for any sign of what had happened. "Look! To the East!" one of the women yelled out, and all of us immediately turned to see smoke starting to rise. My heart sank once I realized where it was coming from .... "Fiona is that ...." Levi started to say as he made his way to the front yard, knowing exactly whose territory it was. I ran back to the bedroom and grabbed my cell phone, quickly calling Darcy's phone number as I made my way back to the front porch. But the phone never rang, instead, it went right to voicemail. Come on ... pick up .... pick up ..... I quickly switched over to call Robert, only to get the same result. I looked down at Levi, and without either of us saying a single thing, he shifted into his blue dragon and took flight. "Aunt Fiona!?" Sharia's frantic voice entered my mind. I quickly looked back up at the skies to try to avoid eye contact with Cerulean, as I didn't want him to know I was linking with her until I found out what was going on. "Sharia!? What's wrong? Are you all ok?" "We're fine, but we found a group of werewolves from Winter Bliss and New Dawn. Some of them are hurt pretty badly .... " "Levi's on his way, link him exactly where you are, and he can help get them here," I cut the link off as I turned around to face my brother, now fully understanding how serious our issue was, "We need to get an area set up for healing and reach out to the others. Sh.it has officially hit the fan."
