Chapter 12

715 Words
My eyes snap open. I’m home… What.. what was that last night? I sit up and take a deep stretch swinging my arms overhead. Ooof- I’m a little sore. My hands senselessly rubbing over my own arms alert me a to a few deeper than normal scratches. I’m a violent sleeper but these seem a little deeper than my normal self inflicted sleep-wounds. I erupt out of bed like lightning with a flash of fear. “FUCK.. f**k f**k fuck..” I scramble around the room to find any evidence that I had left the house in my sleep. Panicked i find my keys in a pair of pants I absolutely did not wear yesterday. My brain is racking itself over the facts of the dream I had last night. “f**k-“ I’m absolutely breaking down at this point. I go to take a seat on the corner of my bed, miss, and fall directly on the hard corner of my wooden bed frame. In the same motion I collapse to the floor. Tears of mostly frustration, and a little bit of pain run down my cheeks as I silently lay on the floor in absolute anguish. I can’t adequately express the shame that I feel in this moment. As I lay there in my empty, trashed, and albeit disgusting apartment I am crushed with the weight of my probable actions. My mind spirals into oblivion as I contemplate the multiple repercussions of my doings. I fade into a void of my own wallowing for who knows how long… Something in me stirs, and I sit up quickly. The sun had changed positions considerably based on the amount of sun pouring in the window. I must have been laying here for hours now… I should get up and go the the gym or get some food or something.. I force myself off the floor, and to my feet. “s**t-“ I stumble a little from pain of the knot I had left on my back from my missed attempt at sitting. Maybe the gym is a no for today.. I get dressed, grab my keys and head out the door for some food. Where the f**k is my car? Jesus Christ could this day get any worse? I throw the hood up on my hoodie. I start to make my way down the stairs of the outside walkway to my apartment complex, and begin to head towards the parking lot. Maybe I parked it somewhere weird? I had to have been close enough to get home with my keys… right? I scan the entire parking lot, and the surrounding areas and still no sign of it. Defeated I take a seat on a bench in the far corner of the complex overlooking the lot. My back is killing me, and there’s definitely something up with my left leg but the jeans I’m wearing allow little room for inspection. I relax against the back of the bench and take a deep breath. I guess I could check my phone. It’s inside the apartment I hope. I make the decision to stand up, but right before I do I see a squad car pull into the parking lot, and ironically park right in the spot I always always park the catfish. I stay seated and try to be inconspicuous. The f**k are they doing here? The driver steps out, followed by another officer from the passenger side of the vehicle. My heart beats so hard out the back of my chest I swear it almost cracks the concrete bench I’m sitting on as I watch them take the stairs and approach my apartment. I hear them banging on my door. Their voices raised but muffled by the distance and traffic of the busy street behind me. What the f**k is going on? Why are they here..? I wonder if they found my car! I have a thought to stand up, but fear glues me in place for a few moments. I see them leaving, heading down the stairs.. one of them is carrying something rather strange loo- My eyes fall out of my skull and roll across the pavement as I am frozen in disbelief..One of the cops is holding my old werewolf Halloween mask.
