Chapter2

915 Words
Mason's POV I blink as I stand in the center of the ballroom, drenched and reeking of cheap wine. My mate, the person who placed me in this situation has scurried out of the scene like the devil is on her ass. 'Go after her,' my wolf, Ethan, yells at me. 'Don't let her get away,' he growls. And I might have followed her if shock hadn't made my feet rooted to the ground. I'm still reeling from the fact that I have a mate. I have a f*****g mate? But what about the curse? Has it been broken? "Oh my God!" a voice shrieks from behind me, making me cringe as I turn around to face the Luna of GreenWood Pack, the hostess of this stupid party. "I'm so s-sorry, Alpha King," she stutters with her head bowed. I have forgotten what her name was and I don't care enough to try and rack my brain for it. "It's ok," I say idly, reaching into my breast pocket and pulling out a handkerchief to wipe the front of my jacket with. "I will make sure that she's punished severely for what she did," she promises vehemently and my eyes narrow at her. "Don't touch her," I simply state. Her head whips up and she stares at me dumbly with her mouth open. "Sorry?" She asks in surprise. "I said don't touch her," I repeat, walking around her and exiting the side doors. I have plans for my mate. *** After the dreadful party is over, I call George, the Alpha of GreenWood Pack, up to his office to have a talk with him. He fidgets under my hard stare as he sits on the huge chair behind his desk. It's funny that he's the one in that authoritative seat yet I'm the one wedging the power in this room. After a few minutes of neither of us saying a word, he speaks up, "I'm ashamed that a servant of mine offended you. I'm willing to do anything to make up for it." I nod and lean back into my seat. "Who is she?" He just called her a servant but I want to know where exactly she came from. He looks mildly surprised at my question but keeps it hidden. "Her father dropped her off at the pack house when she was little. He wanted nothing to do with an omega child and we had no choice but to take her in," he says, his face twisting as though remembering the inconvenience of having to take in a little girl that no one wanted. "And her mother?" I ask, not caring how my line of questioning probably comes off as weird. "Her mother passed away a year after giving birth to her," he answers obediently. I keep silent, going over his words in my head. My mate is an Omega who was rejected by her father and dumped in a pack house where she works as a servant. Why on earth would the Moon Goddess give me her as my Luna? She wouldn't even be a befitting Luna for the weakest Alpha but she's supposed to be my Luna? Is this some kind of cruel joke? Or is there- "You have my sincerest apologies for the harm that she caused and I will make sure that she's punished." I groan in annoyance at having my thoughts interrupted. Besides, what is it with them and wanting to punish her? I wave my hand dismissively in the air. "I don't want her to be punished. I want her to be given to me." It's funny to watch the way different emotions appear on his face. "Why would you want her?" He asks with barely concealed disbelief. I shrug. "You said she was an Omega that you were forced to take in." I sit up straight. "I happen to have a job that I feel she will be a perfect candidate for. So, I'm going to take her off your hands." His mouth opens and closes for a few seconds with nothing coming out. "She's completely useless and won't be of any use to you. I have a few other servants that will serve a better purpose. I'll have them line up so that you can choose from them." For some reason, hearing him speak ill of my mate has anger coiling up my spine. My teeth grind together as I force the anger down. "She's the one I want." "But she isn't good at-" I raise a brow. "Are you refusing my order?" I ask in a low voice as I cut him off. His eyes turn to saucer and I would find it amusing if I wasn't already irritated. "I-I w-would never," he stutters, bearing a resemblance to how his mate looked during today's incident. They are both spineless fools. I force down an eye roll at his predictable answer. I stand up and brush my hand against the front of my jacket to push away some invisible dust. "I will send someone to pick her up tomorrow morning," I tell him, pinning him down with a hard look. "I expect your full cooperation." He smiles brightly. "Of course. In fact, I'm going to tell her myself." I give him a curt nod, turn around on my heels, and walk out of his office without a back glance. Tomorrow, I'll have my mate in my pack and then I can put my plan into action.
