Teach Me How to Spell Love

Love 010

By Zorry Sunblaze

Prem is the university's resident troublemaker-terrible grades, endless pranks, and a particular talent for getting on Professor Boun's last nerve.

Boun has had enough.

But when he discovers there's more to Prem's reckless attitude than meets the eye, he decides to help him instead of giving up on him.

Unfortunately, tutoring Prem turns out to be harder than expected.

Between chaotic study sessions, constant bickering, and feelings neither of them saw coming, Boun finds himself facing a lesson he never planned to teach...

Love.

Some lessons are impossible to grade.

Teach Me How To Spell Love: Love 010 The new teacher Okay, how do I say this? My name is Noppanut Guntachai, but I am known as Boun. A very handsome, nerdy music teacher. My life is nothing interesting. What do you expect from a nerdy introvert? But my life was not planning on being boring for long. So, here is the thing: I got a lecturing job at Bangkok University. I have always loved teaching. I even left and fought with my parents because they wanted me to take on the family business. But after arriving in Bangkok, I started to doubt my judgment. "Khun Noppanut (Mr. Noppanut)," a delicate voice called from behind as I was about to step into the lecture hall. I turned my head, adjusting my glasses, a small smile crossing my face. "Arun Sawat, Khun Tipnaree, (Good morning, Ms. Tipnaree)," I greeted warmly as she approached me, my hand freezing on the doorknob. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Noppanut, for delaying you, but as a colleague, I would like to let you in on a little piece of advice." Ms. Tipnaree smiled, tucking a stubborn strand of hair behind her ear. She looked elegant in her corporate skirt and white shirt. Not too much makeup. I can say she looked pretty. "Ah, that is so kind of you, Ms. Tipnaree," I replied, really interested. "Well, we have a special-case student. Please be careful around him," she whispered. I, in turn, leaned in like she was letting me on in a huge secret. "If it is not a secret, may I know the name of the student?" I whispered back. "Good morning, Mr. Noppanut. Greetings, Ms. Tipnaree." Mr. Kittipat greeted us. "I wasn't expecting to run into you here, but I would like to steal her for a minute." His words were directed at me. "Ah, dai khrab. (Ah, of course, sir)." I smiled. He nodded and half-dragged the lady with him. I exhaled and went into class, a bright smile plastered on my face. I was obviously trying not to look weirder than I am, but no, that was not happening. Immediately after I stepped in, a bucket of white paint poured on me. From head to waist, I was covered in paint. And then the students burst out laughing. I took off my glasses and wiped them. Without them, I couldn't see clearly. Cursing under my breath, I asked, "Who did this?" But everyone kept quiet. Nodding my head, I added, "Dai. Mai bok phii. (Fine. Don't tell me.) I'll deduct your marks and make sure you don't graduate." Murmurs erupted, then a student stood up. "It was Prem," he said. "Prem, please step out," I said, fuming with anger, but also embarrassed. The so-called student stepped out. "JJ, you're dead meat," he threatened as he came forward. "Tooti na, peuen, (Sorry, my friend), but I really do want to graduate," JJ said. "Why would you do that, especially on my first day?" I asked, my voice low but carrying a threat. "Uuf, sorry, teacher. I could not wait for your second day," Prem joked, causing the whole class to laugh. "Do you think this is funny?" I asked, pointing to myself. As if that wasn't enough, the door opened behind me, pushing me forward, and I lost my balance, falling onto that crazy student. "Aish, who is it again?" I whined as I managed to stand up, leaving Prem on the floor with the white paint rubbing off on him. Now we were both stained. Turning to see the guilty student, I jumped. "H—How did you just come in, JJ?" I asked. Was he not the one sitting there? But as I looked back at the benches, I saw him again. "AHH! AHH! Phi! (Ahh! Ahh! A ghost!)" I screamed. "Yuu thi nai? Ahh! Phi! (Where? Ahh! Ghost!" The JJ by the door screamed at me, climbing onto me for protection. Scared, I pushed him off. Now we were all covered in white paint. "Khoortoot Khrap Khun kru, dtea wa annan bpen AJ. Phom bpen JJ khrab, (I'm sorry, sir, but that is AJ. I am JJ)," the JJ by the seat said. Wait... twins? My head swiftly turned from one twin to the other, then I smiled. "Ah, twins." "I'm sorry, sir. I did not know you were standing behind the door," AJ apologized. "Ah, ah. Everyone, go wash up and change," I said, leaving the classroom. Minutes later, I returned wearing a turtle costume. Well, don't laugh at me; it was the only thing I could find. While Prem and AJ had it worse, Prem could only find old, worn-out cotton clothes, while AJ was wearing a chicken costume. The door opened, and Ms. Tipnaree stepped in, almost jumping at the sight in front of her. "Kids, I know this is a university, and there is freedom of dressing, but please, not like this," she complained. "Where is your new music lecturer?" she asked. I, in turn, standing close to the two students, raised my hand. "Heh, Ms. Tipnaree," I awkwardly smiled. "Huh! Mr. Noppanut?" Her confusion was evident. "Well, you see, this student here pulled a little prank on me, pouring paint all over my clothes, so I'm stuck with this." I scratched the back of my head. She shook her head in pity for me. "I'm sorry you had to go through this, especially on your first day." "Ah, it's nothing. I think I'll get used to it." I politely nodded. "And Prem Warut, follow me to the HOD's office." She turned and left. "Oh boy, you're in trouble. Ms. Namtan is very strict," a female student laughed at Prem as he followed after her. I instructed everyone to take out their guitars. I don't mean to brag, but I could very well play every instrument. Everyone did as instructed, and I began teaching. HOD's Office Namtan's POV I pulled the little rascal's ear, making him wince in pain. "Khun Golf, this boy has been misbehaving lately, pranking the new teacher with paint," I said. Mr. Kittipat sighed. "Nong Warut, what is wrong with you? Why do you cause trouble for all your teachers?" "But, sir, it's no fun welcoming them empty-handed," Prem tried to act innocent. "Empty-handed, my foot." I smacked his head. "For that, you have to pick gums with your hands. We won't provide equipment," the HOD said before dismissing us. "Aish, that old man," Prem murmured before walking off to the garden. Boun's POV The class had ended after two hours, but Prem had not attended. I sighed, heading to my office, but I guess I was not meant to reach there without trouble finding me. "Watch out," a voice called out too late as I stepped in a puddle of soapy water, making me trip landing hard on my butt.. "Ouch," I winced, looking at the student in front of me... "It is funny to see you like this, sir, but just know that I had no intentions of pranking you," a student I don't know said with a smile. He was dressed in a white shirt and black pants, with a folded lab coat draped around his shoulder. But it seemed like he was already taken. Don't ask me how I know. Everyone knows the rules that when someone who is not an engineering student is wearing gear, he is taken by an engineering student. Though, if he is an engineering student, it is hard to know because they own the gear. I took his soft hand as he offered them to me for support. "Thank you," I said, gathering my books that fell from the impact of the fall. "By the way, what are you doing in such a nice outfit?" he asked, emphasizing the nice. I understood his joke and told him everything that happened. He laughed: "That kid. Do you know how many teachers have left at just the beginning of this semester?" I shook my head… "About five," he sighed. My mouth gaped in surprise. "Five?" I asked again just to be sure, and the student confirmed that I heard him correctly. "By the way, sir, my name is Mark. Mark Jiruntanin" he introduced. "I am Noppanut Guntachai, but you can call me Boun," I returned his gesture. "I was asked to supervise Prem. He was punished to clear all the chewing gums the students stuck around, so he decided to use soapy water on the floor but spilled a lot and went to get the mop," Mark explained. "It is no problem, but are you close to Prem?" I asked, calling the name in a whisper. I was not scared, but the damage that name had caused me made me think of it as a jinx. "Should I say, he is my brother?" Mark answered. "If I may, you share different surnames" I cautiously asked. "Yes. We are stepbrothers. He forbade me to use his father's name, but that doesn't make me love him less," he answered in a hushed voice, as if not wanting others to know. I nodded "P'Mark!" Prem called, holding the mop and the bucket. He had finished cleaning… His eyes landed on me, and a quick unease flashed through his eyes, but he hid it. "Did you follow me here to see if I was being punished, my dear teacher?" Prem teased, wiggling his eyebrows. "Come to my office once you are done," I said to Prem and exited, but stopped before I disappeared around the corner… "It is on the top floor, the only office there," I said without waiting, then I finally left. "Seems like you are in a hell lot of trouble ai nong rak (my lovely brother)," Mark teased… My Office. I had already changed into a black shirt and pants. Yes, I have a personal wardrobe in my office. My glasses long gone, already on the table, and I pulled out a contact lens. But before I could put it on, a knock disturbed me. I mumbled a come in, looked up and resumed putting it on. With that done, I smiled at my guest and offered him a seat. Prem's POV I was annoyed after seeing my brother with that new teacher. Don't ask questions; I have no answer to that. Now here I am, standing at his door. Like, who is he? How important is he for the school to give him a separate office from everyone else? Yes, the others have their separate offices, but they share the same floor. Even the HOD shares an office with Ms. Namtan. But him? On a different floor and alone? This is crazy.... I knocked on his door, a faint approval reached me and I pushed the door open only to freeze at the sight in front of me. His hair in a ponytail, his glasses gone, a hoop earring clinging to his ear, two buttons of his shirt undone, his tie slightly loose. He was putting on what? 'A contact lens' "Ah nong Prem, please sit. Make yourself comfortable." His soft voice brought me back to reality.
