1281 Words
The Onuwu of Ubiam was in his palace with his brother when they began to hear the chanting. They both stood up to know what had happened and were surprised to see the able bodied men of Ubiam carrying three women shoulder high and coming to the palace. They waited to see what would happen and when the men reached the palace they dropped the three women on the foot of the onuwu. The onuwu looked at his brother and then said to his people, "My people, what has happened and who are these three people that you all bring to me ?" he asked and one of the men came forth and said, "These women are strangers and it happens that this one" he said pointing at the Queen of Getu, "this one is their mother and the rest are her daughters. They are strangers and they claim they come from a far away land. We asked them to leave and one of them refused and when we tried to force her to come with us the rest joined and we decided to force them all here for you to see them and to ask them questions by yourself. I do not want to have them killed without first hearing what you have to say about them" After the young man was through he went back and the Onowu looked at the three women and wondered if they came from Getu for they had their tribal mark. He bent over the Queen and touched her face and the Queen removed her face. The Onowu began to laugh and the rest wondered what was making him to laugh. They waited and when he was through he looked at the Queen of Getu once again and asked, "My Queen?" he began laughing again and this time he fell to the ground and the rest were moved to laugh as well even though they did not understand what was making him laugh. At a point the Queen decided to stand up and said to the amazement of the rest, "Will you offer us a room or you are going to stand there and be laughing at us like a he goat" she said this and sat on the bench. The daughters both stood up and sat with their mother. The villagers were confused. The Onowu after he was done laughing he told the villagers to leave and that he knew the people that they were calling strangers. The villagers then dispersed and the Onowu sat back on his seat and still could not control his laughter. At that point the brother wanted to know why he was laughing and so he said to him, "Why are you laughing my brother and how did you know this woman and her children?" "It is a long story. The rejected land is now the only place of safety for the rejecter" said the Onowu. "You and I know that I never rejected you. You came for my hand in marriage at the time my husband was already engaged to me. I could not possibly leave him and marry you. I do not know why you are making it look like I deliberately turned you down and did not want to be called your wife. Of course I wanted to be called your wife and there was nothing that would have stopped me if my husband had not engaged me before you asked for my hand in marriage" said the Queen of Getu. "You are a liar and you know it Queen of Getu and where is that your husband now? I learn that there is war in your land and now here you are running to me and acting like a person who had done nothing wrong to me before. it is a pity that after all that you did to me you are here seeking for my help" said the Onowu. "I never came here seeking for your help. If was your people that dragged me and my children to this place against our wish. I do not want to sound prideful but there was nothing I would be looking for in your palace if I was not forced down here by your people" said the Queen. "Really, you just sounded prideful you know and you are in my land. The moment you set your feet in Ubiam you are already in my land and you must try to accord me the respect I deserve as the ruler of the land you now sit on. Talking about how you lied you and I know that I was the first to ask for your hand in marriage but you did not take me seriously because I was nothing then. You felt I was going to be wretched and without anything for life. Here you are with your daughters, daughters you brought forth for that useless husband of yours" "My father is not useless!!!" thundered Golibe as she stood up to face the Onowu. The mother tried to draw her back but she refused to be silenced. "Allow me speak to this thing mother" She said and shoved her hand off her mother's grip and turned to the Onowu. "You filth and heartless fellow. You wanted to marry my mother and it did not work out and so what. Is that why you are having the guts to be speaking against her in front of this man here?" said Golibe as she pointed the brother to Onowu. Onowu could not believe what Golibe had just said. Oyolima stood up and held onto Golibe and she sat down again. Onowu then began to clap his hands and wondered if the girl had just spoken to her in that manner. Facing the Queen of Getu the Onowu said, "Take your ungrateful children out of my land before I change my mind and if I do those people that brought you all in here will be the same people that will stone you all to death. Stand up and leave" said the Onowu. The Queen of Getu got up and began to talk sense into the Onowu. "You can not just send us off because a daughter of mine got angry because you bashed her mother and spoke angrily to you. You are not that childish are you?" asked the Queen. The Onowu sat back on his seat. " I won't allow your daughter speak to me in that manner again. You will have to teach her manners else I will be forced to do so and you will not like me if I do" The Onowu said and asked one of his servants to show the three women a room where they could rest and the servant approached them and they went with her. ********** In the land of Getu the war was becoming terrible. The army from Mozo was becoming more bloody and the Getu soldiers could not stand the warlord Ube. He was a god in the battle field and the soldiers of Getu feared to near him. He was cutting the enemies to the ground like a man cutting grasses in the bush. He dashed into the palace of the king of Getu and met him beside his throne and heavily guarded by terrifying looking men. Ube raised his sword in the air and there was a heavy thunder. The men in the room could no longer see Ube but a god amongst them. They were all gripped with fear and they could no longer stand him. They all began to drop their swords and the king of Getu knew that it was over for him.
