Night of Claiming
Ömrüm The night I had dreamed about my entire life… was the night everything broke. The night is full of anticipation, Finally, Lykaios will be mine. Torches lined the clearing, their flames flickering wildly as if they could feel it too, the shift in fate, the pull of something inevitable. Wolves gathered in circles, their voices low, their eyes sharp with curiosity and hunger as always. Because the lowly omega is about to join the ceremony. Tonight was the ‘Mating Ceremony.’ Tonight, I would finally belong. My fingers trembled as I smoothed down the simple white dress I had sewn myself. It wasn’t as grand as the gowns the other girls wore, but it was mine. Clean. Careful. Hope stitched into every thread. Because tonight… he would choose me.My chest tightened as I stepped forward, the ground cold beneath my bare feet. The moment I crossed into the center of the clearing, the murmurs grew louder. “They say it’s her…” “The omega girl?” “Goodness isn’t that lowly Ömrüm?” “No way the Alpha would—” “She’s an ordinary omega, we deserve a better Luna.” I ignored them. I had learned how to ignore whispers a long time ago. My gaze lifted, slow, steady until it found him. Alpha Lykaios Draven. He stood at the far end of the circle, cloaked in shadow and firelight. Tall. Unmoving. Untouchable. His presence alone bent the air around him, made it hard to breathe. My heart stuttered. Because even now… even after years of distance, silence, and cold indifference. My wolf recognized him. “Mine.” “He’s ours. Our mate.” The words didn’t come from me. It came from something deeper inside me. Something so crazy. Something that didn’t ask for permission. My wolf. The wolf doubts its strength but I shall prove them wrong. I swallowed hard. This was it. The Elder stepped forward, his voice cutting through the night. “Tonight, under the witness of the moon and the pack, the Alpha will claim his fated mate… or reject the bond.” A hush fell immediately, my pulse roared in my ears. Lykaios didn’t move at first. Didn’t look at me. Didn’t acknowledge me at all. A flicker of doubt slipped into my chest—but I crushed it quickly. The bond doesn’t lie. It doesn’t choose wrong. It had chosen me. It had to. “Step forward,” the Elder commanded. My legs obeyed before my mind could catch up. One step. Then another. I kept waking closer… Closer. Until I stood only a breath away from him. And then…Lykaios looked at me. Really looked. And something inside me… shattered. There was no warmth in his gaze. No recognition. No pull. Only cold, hard calculations. Like I was nothing more than a mistake he was forced to correct. The bond inside me flared suddenly, violent, desperate, reaching for him, clawing toward his presence like it was oxygen. My breath hitched. He felt it. I saw it. The smallest emotion in his eyes. That reaction. It’s our connection. And that was when relief surged through me. He feels it too. But then his jaw tightened. And that ounce of emotion disappeared, replaced by something far worse. ‘Disgust.‘ “No…” someone whispered behind me. The Elder raised his hand. “Alpha Lykaios Draven,” he intoned. “Do you accept the bond—” “I reject her.” The words fell like a blade. Clean and precise in the most fatal way it could have ever come. For a moment… no one moved. No one breathed. Even the fire seemed to freeze and my mind couldn’t process it. I didn't want to. The bond inside me screamed. Not in words but in pain so sharp it stole the air from my lungs. I staggered back, my hand clutching my chest. “N-no…” My voice came out broken, barely a whisper. “That’s not… You can’t—” “I can.” Lykaios’s voice was calm, cold and unapologetic. Making it worse, his gaze didn’t soften. Didn’t hesitate. “You are not fit to be my Luna.” The crowd erupted. Their gasps, murmurs, and laughter took everywhere like fire. It was an utter humiliation. Someone laughed. They actually laughed. The sound cut deeper than the rejection itself. They were making fun of me. But of course, as always, it’s nothing new. I was the lowly omega girl after all and now the rejected mate. Alpha Lykaios Draven had rejected me despite the bond choosing me. I am the choosen, his fated mate, so, why? Why? Heat rushed to my face, humiliation burning through me like fire. My wolf—my soul—was unraveling, the bond tearing apart piece by piece. But underneath the pain… Something else seem to stir. Something is wrong. Something… I could feel its strength, alive. “You will leave this pack before sunrise,” Lykaios continued, his voice carrying effortlessly over the chaos. “You are no longer under my protection.” No protection. No bond. No place to go to. The world tilted around me. How is this happening? The bond chose me. This wasn’t just rejection. This was an erasure. Lykaios wanted me gone by sunrise. My vision blurred, but I refused to cry. Not here. Not in front of them. And definitely not in front of him. My body was trembling profusely due to the pain caused by the rejection but I straightened slowly, even as something inside me cracked open wider. That same feeling again, i had felt it before. If he wanted to see me break… I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. My gaze lifted to meet his one last time. And for a second, just a second something flickered in his eyes again. And not regret or either guilt. Something darker. Something… uncertain. That look and fear of uncertainty. But it was gone before I could understand it. Good. Let him wonder. Let him question. Because if this was the end of my story… Then why did it feel like something had just begun? A sharp pain ripped through my chest. I gasped and dropped to my knees. The bond—it wasn’t just breaking. It was burning, twisting and changing everything inside me. . Then almost immediately a low, unfamiliar voice echoed in the back of my mind. That voice so soft and ancient feels so awake… ‘So… he cast us aside.’ My breath hitched. Oh, moon goddess? That voice…it…It wasn’t my wolf. It wasn’t anything I had ever felt before. Cold power curled through my veins, slow and deliberate, like something stretching after a very long sleep. ‘Good,’ the voice whispered again. *Now… we are free.* My head snapped up. My eyes locked onto Lykaios one last time. And this time— he flinched just slightly. But I saw it. Felt it. Something inside him reacted. Not to the broken girl kneeling in the dirt… But to the thing rising inside me. The thing I didn’t understand. The thing that was no longer asleep. I pushed myself to my feet, ignoring the stares, the whispers, the shame. And without another word, I turned and walked into the darkness. Behind me, the pack still watched me with red eyes ready to tear me apart and the Alpha? The Alpha still stood there. And the bond should have been gone. But deep in my chest… it pulsed dictating its liveliness, the bond is still not fully broken and dead I kept feeling it. And within my bones far in my skin, I could still feel it again, but this time around the sensation is different. It’s as if something is burning. But there was no for sensation just this strange feeling.
