CHAPTER 1: I've found a friend. Run Alexa, run. Go as far as you can. " These words keep echoing as though they were the only memory I needed to hold onto. I'm eleven years old, but the memories are still so refreshing to my ears. " You know Sam, my parents would have ensured I had the best life if they were alive to watch me grow. My grandmother has given her all to provide the best she can for me, and I'm very satisfied with it. The old cottage has always been my hiding space. Grandmother had to hide me from the snares and the deathly hallows that would try to come near me. That's why I never had a friend. I feel your grandmother, Marie, did what was best for you, with the best intentions at heart. You've been indoors for ages, and the sun's rays have never had a glimpse of you because of your glowing beauty. I'm certain your Mom must have met with the Moon Goddess herself before giving birth to you. Because you're so beautiful. Sam said, and I couldn't help but blush sheepishly at his words. “Alright then Alexa, now I understand everything”. Sam replied in a low tone. I promise I'm going to be your friend. And I'll be your best friend. " But Sam, how can you be my friend? It sounds weird. I mean, look at the beautiful house you're living in. I stayed in an old cottage. You dress in designer clothing, but my clothes are all rough because of the numerous times I have had to wash them and wear them again. I said as I buried my face in my palms. " Do you think that friendship is based on a beautiful part of life, huh?... Hmm, if so, then you must agree with me that you are all wrong. "Come on Alexa, I don't care who you are, I just want to be friends with you and that's all. "I would love you to be my friend, so please, trust me, I'll be nice, Sam said as he took out his hands, requesting a friendly handshake. Dear Moon Goddess, I don't know if this is right, but I'm going to give in. "I hope I don't end up regretting this, "I soliloquized as I shook his hands. " Thanks, Alexa, I'll be going now. I'll see you tomorrow. Thanks for your time and also for telling me about yourself today. My Mom and Dad must be back now. That's why I need to go now. We'll meet again tomorrow ". Bye… " Bye, Sam, I'll see you tomorrow. I replied and waved at him as he left. “Grandmother was returning soon, and I didn't finish up with the day's task. It's almost evening”. I said as I quickly rushed back to tidy the house. While I was arranging the room, my grandmother walked in. " Welcome back, grandmother," I rushed to give her a big hug. “My dear granddaughter, what's making you so happy? "Have you found your missing book?” Grandmother asked, "surprised to see me so happy". " No, grandmother" I replied. I've found something worth more than a book. Grandmother, I've found a friend. " Really a friend," the grandmother said, raising her brows, her words sounding a bit perplexed. “You see, grandmother, when you left for the market, I was bored, so I went outside to sit, just gazing at the beautiful mansion just opposite our cottage. But I was startled when I felt someone tapping my back, and when I turned, I saw a boy. "He introduced himself and told me he was the son of the family that had just moved into the new mansion”. I explained everything to her. I told Grandmother everything that had happened in detail, and she wore a big smile on her face. Her reaction wasn't what I expected, but I liked it anyway. “Wow, so much happened while I was away. I'm so happy to see you smile so much. It's good that you have a new friend aside from your books and toys. Alright then, let's tidy up. The night is falling, we need to eat and go to bed soon. OK, grandmother. We both ate and went to bed. " Come on my child, you need to go outside and pick some beautiful flowers from the woods, so we'll add some decorations for your father's birthday. But hey, don't stay outside too long. You know Dad doesn't like it when you are away from him for so long. Ok, Mother, I'll be back soon. I'll pick a lot of beautiful flowers and you'll love them. " Mom giggled, I know you will. A few minutes later, suddenly the leaves started rustling, and I could hear the distant hooting of owls. The clouds covered the sky and a bright day became dark. I could feel the whispers of the wind and then the howling sound of a wild wolf... The scary howling and growling sound became so close... I got scared and rushed back home only to find Dad on the floor already dead. Mom was crawling away and begging for mercy from the wild beast that had devoured her. As she turned to see me, she screamed, "No, my child, don't just stand there, run... run Alexa, run Alexa. Go as far as you can… You need to live for us. Please run my child..... Immediately, I took to my heels. The wild beast saw me and tried to go after me, but Mom pulled him back, and he went back to make her breath her last. Then he came after me. Running and panting, I went into the woods, darkness and howling had covered everywhere help me...help me… Help me… I cried out for help. The farther I ran, the closer I could hear the beast's howling sound. I ran so far as though my life depended on this race, but at some point, I ran out of breath and fell to the ground.
