Whatever it takes

Chapter 5

STEVEN'S POV 

 I sat at my kitchen table by myself in a world of my own. After what happened with Alexa my mate was no longer talking to me and had asked me to leave. My eldest attacked me, my second eldest looked me up and down in disgust. My youngest son went for me but was held back by his brother, my daughter Grace was afraid to speak to me or be in a room alone with me. I couldn’t blame any one of them, I acted out of anger, I hit my daughter. My sweet beautiful innocent daughter, I’m so ashamed of myself, I felt sick as I replayed it over and over again.

 I’m so mad at myself, I always made sure my kids and my wife knew how much they were loved. I swore from the day Kyle was born that I’d always protect my kids....who would protect them from me? I sighed heavily, Zara was so upset Alexa took off again that she’d called Kyle to go look for her instead of asking me. She was currently upstairs pacing a hole in our bedroom floor. I’d never forgive myself for what I’ve done, I just hope Alexa would forgive me and let me make it up to her. My head snapped up as the front door opened and closed, relief washed over me as I heard Kyle talking to her. He had found her, she had come home.

 I stood up as they walked into the kitchen and Alexa stopped in her tracks. “Hey sweetie,” I said softly. She chewed on her lip and looked up at her brother, “it’s okay Lex I’m not going anywhere.” “Can we talk?” I asked as she still stood by the door. She thought for a moment before nodding and walking to the table, sitting down she put her hands on the table. Sitting across from her I reached over and took her hands. “Alexa I’m so sorry about earlier, I don’t know what came over me, there’s no excuse for what I did. I got so mad when you mentioned Parker that I lashed out, that boy almost killed you, almost took you away from me. My anger got the better of me, I’m so so sorry baby.”

 I saw her think for a moment before she started to look around the kitchen, “you want something to write on?” Kyle asked and dropped a pad and pen in front of her. She smiled up at him and picked up the pen, after she was done writing she turned it towards me. Looking down I pulled it closer to me. 'Before I forgive you I need you to know that Parker is not going anywhere, dad I've forgiven him and we've talked  about it. He's apologised a thousand times and swore to make it up to me.I want you to do the same, I want to move on from this and get back to normal. Parker is my friend and he will be in my life whether you like it or not.'

ALEXA'S POV 

 He sighed and slid the pad back to me, “it will take me a while to forgive him Alexa, you must understand the pain and worry he caused us. Your mother and I didn’t know if we were gonna lose you or not, we had to sit by your bedside watching you hooked up to all those machines, we had to sit there for days praying to the moon Goddess that you’d wake up. It’s not that easy just to forgive him and move on. I scribbled on my pad and pushed it over to him,'all I ask is that you try I know he's sorry for what he did.'  “I’ll try,” he nodded and looked over at me, “do you forgive me?”

Nodding I stood up, he stood up too and pulled me into his arms, “thank you baby,” he sighed and squeezed me tighter. We all look out towards the front door as the buzzer went, “I’ll get it,” Kyle said and walked out of the room. My dad stepped away from me, “are you hungry? I can fix you a sandwich or something,” he offered. I shook my head and leaned over the pad to write, 'I can't eat solids until the swelling goes down'  “Right, I knew that,” he said and walked to the fridge, "sit down I’ll make you some soup.”

 “Delivery for Alexa Keane,” Kyle said and walked into the room with a big bunch of flowers. My eyes went wide, they were so beautiful and so big whoever sent them must be broke by now. He set them in front of me, I stood up and looked through them for a card. Finding it I sat back down and opened the little envelope addressed to me. 'Day 1 of 14, I didn't know what flowers you liked so I got a mix, hope you like them. Miss you so much already babe, love you my beautiful girl, love Parker xxx'

I bit my lip to hold down the squeal that wanted to come out. He was so sweet, they were absolutely gorgeous they must have cost him a fortune. I looked up to see Kyle smirking at me, I sent him a scowl and shoved the note into my pocket. “Someone from school?” my dad asked as he placed a bowl down in front of me. I nodded and smiled quickly before pulling the bowl closer to me and dropping my head. My dad didn’t need to know it was Parker.

 After I was finished eating I went to my room, Grace and James had taken the twins to the park and Tyler had gone to the gym. I had some time to kill, lying back on my bed I pulled out my phone and decided to text Parker to say thank you. The flowers had really blown me away, I never knew he could be so sweet. 

PARKER'S POV 

 I had just finished messing around with my car and had gone to my room. I dropped back onto my bed and let out a heavy sigh, I couldn’t get Alexa out of my head. No matter what I did she was constantly on my mind. I was pulled from my thoughts as my phone beeped, pulling it from my pocket I unlocked it and smiled as her name came up on the screen. I opened her message and my smile widened.

'Thank you for my flowers baby they're gorgeous. Parker you didn't need to do that they must have cost you a fortune. I miss you too and I love you too xxx' I sat up and started to reply, I was glad she was happy with them I was in the shop for ages until the woman suggested I send a mix of flowers.

'You're very welcome gorgeous x how were things when you got home? Did you see your dad? Are you okay? Xxx' That’s what was bothering me most, I was worried he'd lash out again and hurt her. I looked down on my phone as her reply came in. 

Yes, he was here when I got home he apologised and we talked. I made it clear that you weren't going anywhere, that we'd talked, I've forgiven you and we're trying to move that he should do the same. I'm fine, don't worry about me xxx

 My heart rate began to speed up, did she tell him we were mates? What does she mean she made it clear I wasn’t going anywhere? I typed quickly as my heart thumped against my chest. 'Babe, did you tell him about us?xxx'

 She replied instantly, 'No, I don't think any of us are ready for that right now. I told him we were friends and we would be around each other xxx' I relaxed immediately and looked towards my door as someone knocked “yeah?” I called. My mom stuck her head in, “got a sec?” “Sure, just give me one minute,” I said and replied to Alexa.

Alright babe, you're right friends is easiest right now. I gotta go my mom wants me, text me later, love you beautiful xxx 

She replied right away, 'Love you too sexy, hope your mom and dad are okay. Talk later xxx'  I chuckled and tossed my phone on my bed, “what’s up mom?” “Your dad said you wanted to go see the Keanes, I was wondering if maybe it would be easier to invite them here for dinner.” “Thanks mom but Alex made me list, she wants me to come to her house. I don’t wanna let her down, I want to prove to her that I love her and I’ll do whatever it takes to be with her.” 

My mom smiled and stood up, “okay we'll go to theirs,” she said and placed her hand on my cheek, “I don’t agree with what you did and I could murder you for what you did to Alexa, but I can see the change in you already, she’s good for you. She’s gonna turn your world around,” she said and walked towards the door. “Counting on it mom!” I called after her. 

LUNA LOUISE'S POV 

After speaking with Parker I made my way downstairs deciding I would be making dinner today. Normally chef would cook but today I was in the mood for a little cooking. Walking into the kitchen I stopped briefly as I spotted my jackass of a mate at the counter on his laptop. Ignoring him I walked by him and pulled the fridge open to see what we had. “Need any help babe?” he asked.

 I ignored him and continued to rummage through the fridge. “What are you looking for?” he asked next. Closing the fridge I walked to the counter and picked up my bag and keys. “I’m going to the store,” I said and went to walk out. “Louise, please talk to me,” he sighed. I stopped in the doorway, “I meant what I said the other night Warren, as soon as this dinner with the Keanes' is done I’m gone.”

 I gasped as I was grabbed and whirled around before my back was pushed into the wall. I looked up to see his broken face looking back at me. My heart clenched as tears rolled down his cheeks, “I love you Louise, you can’t leave me, I can’t live without you,” he said shakily. I bit my lip as my own tears slid down my cheek, “you should have thought about that before you dismissed me so quickly. That is my child Warren, I know he did wrong but that punishment was too far! I told you what would happen if you went through with it.” 

He took a step closer to me, “baby please, I’ll do anything, you can’t just leave me.” “I’ve made up my mind Warren, move away from me please?” I asked. “Lou please,” he sighed and closed his eyes, “we can get through this, I’ll do whatever you want. Please, anything,” he begged. I turned my head away from him as more tears fell, “No, there’s no coming back from this.”

 He nudged my face back to him and stepped im closer to me, “I’m never letting you go baby, never,” he said and crashed his lips to mine. I dropped my keys and wrapped my arms around his neck as the kiss deepened....stupid mate bond! “I’m still mad at you,” I mumbled as he lifted me onto his hips. “Uh-huh" he mumbled back as he carried me up the stairs. “You’re still sleeping in another room.” “Whatever you want babe,” he mumbled as he kicked the bedroom door closed. Laying me on the bed he crawled up over me, “I will beg on my hands and knees if I have to,” he murmured and closed his lips over mine.

 Seems both the Adams boys had a lot of making up to do. 

ALEXA'S POV 

The next morning came too quickly for my liking, yesterday I’d spent the rest of the day with my brothers and sisters. Kyle had just dropped me off at the hospital after much protest from my parents. I was still mad at them over keeping Parker’s punishment from me and told them both I needed some space from them that I didn’t want them coming to the hospital until I was ready to see them again.  

So here I sat back in my hospital room waiting on Dr Ryan to come and do some tests. Just as I thought that he walked into the room, "how are you feeling today Alexa? Did the trip home help?"

I smiled and nodded, not like I could do much else. "Great," he said and opened his chart, "first thing I want to do is stick a camera down your throat and check on the swelling, then we'll run a few blood tests and look ar your voice box okay?" Again I nodded. "I'll be right back, then we'll get started," he said and left the room.

As soon as he was gone I closed my eyes and let out a deep breath, I was terrified of getting the camera down my throat. What if it was bad news? What if the swelling was worse? Why did I come by myself? I huffed to myself. I opened my eyes and had to blink a few times to see if I was seeing things and Parker wasn't standing by my door. "Hey babe," he smiled and walked to me, before I could pick up my pad he grabbed my wrist, "I knew by your texts you were nervous, promise I'll go right after your done," he said and kissed me quickly.

I pulled him back to me and deepened it, I was happy he was here but I also didn't want him to be, I wanted to stick to my plan, whatever, he was hot, he can stay. One slip up was allowed....although this was already.the second one, but who's counting?

PARKER'S POV 

 Pulling back from the kiss I smiled down on her and sat beside her. Before I could say anything Dr Ryan walked back in with some machine. “Alright Alexa let’s get....Mr Adams, should you be here?” “Alexa wants me here,” I replied. He looked at her and studied her face, “do you Alexa, I can call your parents or someone?” She smiled and nodded before slipping her arm into mine. “She’s fine with me here,” I said. He looked between us for a moment before nodding and making his way to the bed.

 “Alexa I want you to open your mouth as wide as you can, as soon as you feel the camera I want you to start breathing through your nose. This is going to be a little uncomfortable, you can close your eyes if you want to. The main thing is you don’t panic,” he said and moved closer to her. As soon as the camera touched her mouth she closed her eyes tight and tightened her grip on my arm. I pulled her hand away and laced our fingers together hoping that would keep her calm. 

When she squeezed my fingers I started to stroke her hand with my thumb as I watched the screen, “see anything?” I asked after a minute. He didn’t reply for a few seconds, “looks good, the swelling is almost gone down, it’s returning to it’s normal colour,” he replied and slowly pulled the camera out of her mouth. Leaning over her I picked up the bottle of water beside her bed and pulled the cap off. “What about her voice?” I asked as I handed it to her. “We'll need to do a scan on that, I can’t say right now,” he said and rolled up her sleeve. “What are you doing now?” I asked as he went towards her with some needle thing. I need to take blood samples,” he said and stuck the needle in. She winched in pain and squeezed my fingers, I sighed heavily my guilt was back. How could it not be after watching him do that to her? 

“All done,” he said and stood up, “your appointment for your scan is at eleven, I’ll be back then. Just rest and take it easy,” he said as he gathered his things. “Thanks Doc!” I called after him and stood up. “What?” I asked when I noticed she was looking at me with raised eyebrows. She leaned over her pad and wrote quickly, 'Don't start with the guilt again, I thought we'd moved on from that' 

I sighed and stepped closer to her, “Alex the guilt will always be with me. I can’t stand watching you go through all this, it’s killing me,” I said honestly. She wrote again and held out the pad, 'I love you' Smiling I lowered my head, “love you too babe, with all my heart,” I murmured and kissed her slowly just the way I knew she liked. 

ALEXA'S POV 

After my scan on my throat I went back to my room to await the results not surprised to see Parker sitting on my bed. “How did it go?” he asked and stood up as soon as he saw me. The nurse wheeling me back chuckled and saved me the trouble of writing, “it takes a few minutes to look at things, Dr Ryan will by once he’s done,” she said and left us alone.

 Sitting beside me he sighed and wrapped his arm around me, “I’m sorry, I’m a little on edge today.” I rolled my eyes and gave him my ‘seriously?’ Look. He shook his head and pulled me closer, “I’m sorry babe I know this is hard for you, I’ll try relax a little.” Smirking I slid out of his hold and off the bed, walking to the door I locked it and drew the blinds. “What are you doing?” he asked slowly as I walked back to him. 

Straddling him I pulled his head back and kissed him hard, he groaned into my mouth and pulled me closer. Pushing myself back a little I jammed my tongue down his throat as my hand slid inside his jeans. He pulled away from me quickly, “What the f**k Alex! Are you crazy?”

 I smirked and started to move my hand, leaning in I kissed him again. “Alex babe,” he moaned as my hand sped up. “s**t!” he groaned and dropped his head to my neck. I could feel his breathing pick up he was close. He moved his hand to back of my head and tangled it in my hair before slamming his lips to my mine. His other hand landed on my ass cheek, “yes babe, f**k!” he panted. “Alex! Aw f**k baby!” He moaned and kissed me hard as he came. “f**k Alex,” he panted and trailed kisses along my neck. Coming back to my lips he kissed me a few times and pulled back, “what’s gotten into you?” he murmured as he kissed me sweetly. 

Pulling my hand from his jeans I rolled off him and went into the bathroom. Washing my hands I walked back to the bed and picked up my pad, scribbling quickly I held it out to him. “Relaxed now?” He read out and burst out laughing, launching forward he grabbed me and flung me back on the bed, “if we weren’t in a hospital waiting on a doctor I’d return the favour,” he said huskily as his hand ran up my leg. Huffing I grabbed my pen, scribbling I turned it around so he could see it. 'I really Really wanna f**k you!! 

"What have you done with my sweet innocent Alexa,” he mock gasped. Lowering his head he pushed himself against me. He was hard again already?? “this is how much I want you too babe,” he murmured and kissed me. As soon as I ran my hands up his chest he pulled away, “don’t think I’m gonna be able to stop this time babe,” he said and rolled off me.

PARKER'S  POV 

Walking to the door I unlocked it and went into the bathroom to tidy myself up. Walking back to the bed I leaned over her and kissed her deeply, sitting on the chair I sat back and looked up at, “stop pouting,” I chuckled. “You’re turning me on, when we do get there babe it’ll be totally worth the wait.” She held up her pad and pointed to something she’d written early. Smiling I leaned into her, “love you too gorgeous,” I said and kissed her sweetly.

 Just as I pulled away the door opened and Dr Ryan walked in, “I have your scan results,” he said and sat down. Alexa glanced at me nervously and slid her hand into mine, “what is it? Will she talk again?” I asked nervously. “I believe so,” he nodded, “Alexa, your results show improvement, but not much. I believe because your wolf has only arrived it’s not healing as fast.” 

“How long do you reckon it will take?” I asked. “It’s hard to say right now but I’m positive about this. We'll do another scan in a week, right now it’s sixty/forty in our favour. Next week I’m hoping it’ll be much higher. “Is there anything we can do to help move it along?” I asked. He nodded and pulled out a sheet of paper, "just simple things really, drink lots of water, lemon tea, get proper sleep at night. There are a few others on the list too.” 

Alexa wrote on he pad and turned it to him, 'Will I be able to return to school on Monday?' he nodded and stood up. “Yes you can but you need to take it easy and not over do it. I’m going to keep you here until Friday anyway so I suggest you rest up. I’ll be back to check on you this evening.”

 “Thank you Doc!” I called after him and stood up, “did you hear that babe?” I asked happily. “This is great news!” I said and pulled her into my arms. I pulled back as I heard her sniff, “Alex what’s wrong?” I asked as I searched her face. She wiped her tears and grabbed her pad. 'I was dreading these results, I had myself psyched up to hear I'll never talk again, these are happy tears promise' 

Leaning in I rested my forehead against hers, “I love you Alex, I’m gonna be with you every step of the way. She pulled back and wrote on her pad. '14 days still stand, get out of here....love  you too baby xxx 

Chuckling I stood up, “this is gonna be torture,” I said and grabbed my coat. “I’ll text you later beautiful,” I said and kissed her deeply before leaving her room. I was so happy right now, I was dreading these results too, I’d never be able to live with myself if she couldn’t talk again.
