“In that case, I'll tell you what my curse is.” Alpha Leonidas continued, “Every time I find my mate and accepts her, she dies after seven days.”

I stiffened as I glanced up sharply at him.

“That's right,” Alpha Leonidas said, his eyes heavy. “It's my curse. The mate bond between my mate and I, is just like a thread of death. On the seventh day, it snaps in twos, and my mate winds up dead.”

The hated slave
“How much for the runt?” Alpha Gunner asked, pointing at me. I glanced up and stared up at him, surprised he would pick me. The slave merchant robbed his hands, a greedy gleam in his eyes. “For you, Alpha Gunner, $5,000. What do you say? A fair price.” Alpha Gunner wrinkled his nose. “She's so dirt cheap. What makes her underpriced?” The slave merchant chuckled softly. “As you can see, Alpha Gunner, she's weak and sick. Healthier, stronger slaves are highly priced and valuable. This slave is the opposite, hence her low price.” “I see,” Alpha Gunner approached my cell, his eyes locked in mine. “Where did you find her?” “She got shipped in a month ago. Apparently, her family sold her to pay off a massive debt,” the slave merchant said. “She won't interest you, Alpha Gunner. Allow me to show you my best slaves.” “Shut up!” Alpha Gunner snapped at the slave merchant. “Unlock her cell.” The merchant sealed his lips and did what he was told, unquestionably. Alpha Gunner glared at me for the longest moment as he entered my smelly cell. “It's rude to look directly into my eyes. Know your place, omega!” I instantly looked down. I was new in this city and oblivious to how things works around here. Alpha Gunner grabbed the shackle tied around my neck and pulled me forward. I lurched forward, feeling pains shaking my entire body. I did put up as much effort not to meet his gaze, but I could feel his eyes burning a hole in me. “I'm sure you already know why I came to you,” Alpha Gunner said. I nodded, still looking away. “Yes, Alpha Gunner.” He sensed it. The very moment he stepped foot into the underground slave store, we both felt it. This brute was my mate. A moment of silence ensued between us. Then he broke it with one question. “What's your name?” “Kylie,” I answered. “My name is Kylie, Alpha Gunner.” There was no life in my voice. I sounded like a dying frog. Alpha Gunner bared his teeth into a terrible grin. “Well, Kylie, you're in luck. I'm going to buy you and make you my slave. But don't rejoice yet because this is the very beginning of hell for you. I will break you into tiny pieces. You'll beg for death, but death would be far from your reach.” His words sent chills down my spine. I've experienced hell, but not the hell he was preparing my mind for. He leaned forward, whispering to my ears, “I never expected my mate to be a slave, and a weak one at that. Why do you have to be a slave? I'll make you suffer.” It was at that moment, I realized I was in for a life of torture. That was six months ago when I first met Alpha Gunner. “You bloody, fool,” Alpha Gunner slapped me across the cheeks. “Why is my dinner cold, huh?” “I'm sorry, Alpha Gunner,” I said as I backed myself against the wall, my face white with horror. “I thought you'd arrive home early. I'll microwave your dinner, please.” Alpha Gunner pulled out his whip lash. He raised it above his head and brought it down on me with every fiber of strength in him. The whip tore my maid uniform, cutting bruises and wounds all over my body. “Please, Alpha Gunner, have mercy,” I cried out, tears streaming down my face. “I promise never to serve your meals cold.” “Shut up, you dirty b***h,” Alpha Gunner cursed, increasing the number of times he lashed his whip at me. I never served him cold meals after then, but it was still never enough. Alpha Gunner always found one way or the other to inflict pains on me. He would beat me to a pulp at the throw of a hat. I got beaten so much, I had to buy healing potions to aid with my healing as I haven't reached shifting age yet. Still, the scars were there for everyone to see. Alpha Gunner was the future Alpha of the South Pack. Soon, Alpha Gunner would succeed his father, but there was one problem. Alpha Gunner needs to find a mate before he is qualified to fill in to his father. Two mating seasons has passed, but Alpha Gunner was yet to find his mate. Except, of course, he already found his mate but was ashamed to announce it to anyone. I've lived in the Randolph's mansion for six months now, and no one suspected me to be Alpha Gunner's mate. Not even Alpha Randolph, leader of the South Pack. * * * * “Why do you hate me so much?” I asked after getting my daily dose of beatings from Alpha Gunner. He stared at me like I was a pile of rotten sewage. “Why do I hate you? No, I don't hate you, Kylie. I don't know what to describe what I feel about you, but hatred isn't the word.” I lay sprawled on the floor, my back opened with lash cuts and bleeding. The floor was covered in a pool of my blood. I just lay there on the floor, I didn't move, neither did I make any effort to. Alpha Gunner returned his whip lash, an unreadable expression on his face. “To be fair, I always believed my mate would be someone from a noble home. I love my women beautiful and strong. You're just not cut to be my Luna.” Oh, how could I forget, Alpha Gunner was an incorrigible womanizer? He's slept with every maid in and out of the mansion, except with me. He simply never finds me sexually attractive. I don't even consider myself pretty, not after the numerous punches that damaged my face. I wouldn't mind all that if he didn't have to force me to watch him bang the brains out of every she-wolf he brings into his bedroom. It was torture to watch my mate hurt me this way. He knows it hurts me like hell, and that's why he'll never stop doing it. It gives him a great deal of pleasure to watch me suffer. “T-Then,” I stuttered, a big ball of tears rolling off my eyes. “Why don't you just reject me? Break the mate link, so I won't be a hindrance to you.” Alpha Gunner approached me, hovering over me with his towering height. He could have passed for a good-looking mate if he didn't have that twisted wicked grin on his face whenever he stared down at me. “What are you talking about?” He slammed his hard boot on my face. “I'd never reject you. I've grown fond of you since I bought you. Causing you great pains gives me a satisfying sense of pleasure I've never felt before. I enjoyed torturing you, so much Kylie.” My eyes widened at his proclamation. It's not that he hadn't thought about rejecting me. He could do it whenever he wanted to. It's not so difficult either. No. He was enjoying this. He enjoys my suffering. It boosts his dopamine when I bleed and cry my eyes out, begging for mercy. I was nothing more to him than a toy to be used and a punch bag at his disposal. “I don't want this anymore, Alpha Gunner,” I sniffed. “Just end my suffering. It's best you kill me.” “I won't kill you,” he snarled at my face. “I'll only make use of you until I eventually grow tire of you, then I'll reject you and let you die.” Cruel. Those were the cruelest words he had ever said to me. This was my fate as a hated slave.
