Karl did not turn around to face them, “what is going on is that Lisa lost my child, and she is in a critical condition right now”
As the words about Lisa having a miscarriage sank into Mia's brain, she froze in shock. She recovered almost immediately and scrambled towards Karl on her hands and knees, “you know I could never push anyone down the stairs. I didn't even know that she was pregnant. Karl, believe me, I did not touch her”
She was almost close to him when Karl's men caught her and pressed her down. She struggled, but couldn't release herself from their stronghold. It was useless. They were not just werewolves, they were trained fighters, while she was just a regular girl without a wolf. She could not escape from them.
When Karl finally turned to face her, his face was cold and devoid of any emotions. He had never been one who smiled nor was one who expressed emotions, but Mia had never seen his eyes so cold before. She shivered as fear ran down her spine.
“You have been banished from this pack, Mia. The only reason why I'm letting you go is because of our past relationship and because our parents were close. Drag her out to the pack's border” Karl said the last words to his men before walking away.
Everywhere was silent for a second and when the words Karl said finally registered in everyone's head, there were gasps of shock.
“You can't banish me, Karl!!” Mia screamed with a crazed and frightened expression as she struggled to stand up and run after Karl, who had already disappeared out of the door.
“Let me go, you f*****g bastard!” Mia yelled as she pounded on the back of one of Karl's men, who picked her up and threw her over his shoulder like a sack of rice. Some days ago, he wouldn't have laid his hands on her. They always bowed and treated her with respect, but all of that was gone now.
Tears poured out of her eyes as she was out of the pack house and shoved inside a waiting van. Mia was on her feet almost immediately. She tried to run out of the van to her father, who was held down by over five men to stop him from going after her. The van's door was shut, and she was pushed back to the floor, but not before catching a glimpse of Lisa's father. He was smirking at her.
By the time they got to the pack's border, which was not far from the pack house, Mia was a mess. Her face was streaked with tears, and she had snot running down her nose. Her breathing was coming out heavy and quick. Her eyes were red and her face, pale.
The same way she was dragged from her house to the pack house was the same way she was dragged from the van to the edge of the border. Mia did not struggle this time, as she had no strength left.
“The alpha wants you to have this. It's always given to anyone who gets banished” one of the guards threw a bag at her feet before all of them got into the van and drove off. Leaving her cold and alone.
Mia raised her hand to slap the bag away and scream that she didn't need their help but paused with her hands still raised. She did not know what was inside the bag.
She was out here in the cold without any money or extra clothes. She picked up that bag and tore it open. What was inside was a blanket and some money.
Mia turned around and took in her environment, all she could see was trees and snow. Fresh tears filled her eyes as she realized that she was alone. She was not going to be a rogue because she had no wolf, she was a normal human.
**
It's been four days since Mia was thrown out of her pack. Four days of her walking around and wandering alone without food or water.
As one who has never been out of her pack before or subjected to any form of suffering, Mia was already at a breaking point. She had spent her days and nights walking through the woods and wishing she could get to the end of the forest.
Throughout these four days, she tried hard not to think about her father and how he must be feeling right now. He had warned her and also tried to stop her when she wanted to leave the house, but she had refused. At that time, she only wanted to meet Karl and get them to solve their problems. She never thought that she could bump into Lisa.
She tried not to think about how her life which was set suddenly became like this; not finding her mate and getting banished from the pack. Even as she trudged through the forest, hungry and cold to her bones, she realized that she might die in the forest. She might never meet her father again.
Karl always told her that she would start attending meetings with him as his wife in the human world once she became his Luna. All of that was lost now. She would never become his Luna or travel out with him.
On the fifth day, Mia could not move anymore. If not for her series of training to become a Luna, she would not have gotten this far, but nothing could have prepared her for this. So far so good, she has not encountered any deadly beast or rogue in the forest. The luck that had deserted her in the days before her banishment came back.
Mia was grateful because she knew that she wouldn't be able to defend herself. Mia was almost at the point of giving up; falling to the ground and sleeping forever when she heard a sound: the sound of a moving vehicle, and Mia knew that she would soon find help.
The sound fueled her with determination to keep going, and when she saw that she had gotten to the end of the forest, she nearly collapsed to the floor to weep for joy.
She sat on the floor to rest and also wait if she would see any cars coming. It took her another full day before she saw another car, and she did not have the strength to get up to flag it down.
As the car drove past, her eyes squeezed shut and hot tears began to fall as she cried for the opportunity she had lost because of her weakness. She did not hear the car stop or when it began to drive back. She froze and fear crept up her spine when she felt a hand tap her shoulder.
“Hello, are you alive?”
It was a hard chore, but Mia was able to turn her head and open her eyes. A young man was standing over her and peering down at her in concern. She tried to speak, but her mouth was dried and lips patched.
The young man turned and waved at something or someone behind him, “I told you, she is alive, but she can't speak,” the man turned back to her and told her," we are going into town. I don't know how you got here, but do you need help? We can drop you off”
Mia nodded and then saw the man bend down and felt herself being lifted and carried off. She lay on the back seat of the stranger's jeep as it sped away from the forest she had been in for days and to a town where she did not know what was waiting for her.
“I wonder how she got there. There are no town or houses around there or even any village”
She could hear the two men discussing her. She was not supposed to sleep. These men were strangers, and she didn't even know them, even if they had just rescued her. They could be kidnappers or even rapists, but Mia was too tired to care. She was in a deep sleep minutes later.
Mia woke up minutes or hours later, she didn't know when she felt herself being carried out of the Jeep.
The man must have noticed that she was awake because he immediately explained, “we have gotten into town. We are in front of a small hotel now. You look like you need some rest, food, and you need to get out of these wet clothes”
As he explained, he kept walking," we are not staying in this town, we only came to pick up something. I paid for a room for you for a week, and I have asked someone to get you a fresh set of clothes. The people working here would help you change”
Mia continued to look at the face of the man, committing it to memory as he carried her into a room and dropped her on the bed. He was still speaking when she felt herself drifting back to sleep.
“Thank you” she murmured – outside or in her head, she didn't know before she gave herself up to the sleep that was beckoning onto her.
