Krystal could not believe that she was going to get killed again. And she had not even carried out her revenge.
The moon goddess told her this was her only chance and she couldn’t believe she blew it by stealing.
But on the other hand, if she didn’t eat, she could eventually die of hunger and she wouldn’t be able to get her revenge so maybe stealing the food was the right thing?
A rough slap on her face jolted her out of her reverie as her eyes stung with tears.
“I asked you a damn question, i***t. What is your name?!” One of the guards bellowed.
“Krys—” Krystal began but she quickly remembered that she could be in grave danger if she revealed her identity.
The ones that murdered her in the past could be somewhere out there and they could once again come after her if they found out that she was a Bloodfang.
“Kris,” She said instead. “My name is Kris Varlett.”
“Kris Varlett,” One of the guards sneered. “You had the audacity to steal food from the kitchen but not just any food. You stole the Alpha’s food!” He bellowed and Krystal flinched.
“I’m sorry,” Krystal's lips quivered as her eyes filled up with tears.
The slap hurt a lot and deep down, she wanted to test a fraction of her powers on these guards in front of her, just to confirm if she was still as powerful as she once was but instead, she settled for acting like a pathetic weakling.
“Sorry won’t cut it,” The guard growled. “Take her to the Alpha!” The guard ordered and the rest wasted no time yanking Krystal by the arms and dragging Krystal down the corridor with the chef in tow.
The doors opened and the guards dragged her into a large room, throwing her roughly in front of a seated man and a woman next to him.
From his size and the mean look on his face, Krystal could tell that he was the Alpha.
“What is this?!” The Alpha barked with a murderous expression on his face and Krystal flinched, not because she was frightened of him but because she had to keep up her weak appearance.
In her past life, she and her sister, Sage, ate men like him for breakfast.
“Alpha, we caught this girl stealing your food.” One of the guards reported. Krystal didn’t think it was possible but the Alpha’s face turned even more murderous.
“How dare you?!” The Alpha yelled, finally turning his attention to Krystal. She sighed internally before slowly bowing her head till it almost touched the ground.
“I’m sorry, Alpha. I had no idea it was your food.”
“Stealing is prohibited in Winter claw,” The woman next to the Alpha whom Krystal presumed was the Luna, sneered. “Kill her.” She ordered the guards in a cold tone.
Krystal’s heart pounded in her chest. She was going to get killed again. She wouldn’t let that happen. She would protect herself even if that meant exposing her identity as a Bloodfang.
She was preparing herself to fight when the Alpha raised a hand, stopping the guards in their tracks.
“This girl had the guts to steal the Alpha’s food. She deserves pain worse than death. Whip her a thousand times with the whip reserved for hardened criminals!” The Alpha thundered.
“Yes, Alpha!” The guards responded in unison and she didn’t have the time to contemplate what the Alpha meant before she was roughly dragged out of the room by her hair.
Her scalp felt like it was on fire and her eyes watered but she managed to keep her lips sealed and just let them do whatever they wanted with her.
The guards dragged her toward what seemed like the market square, dumping her roughly on the ground.
Another guard brought out long whips with steel spikes at the edges and Krystal’s mouth ran dry.
She was going to get beaten up by that monstrosity because she stole some food? She could barely think of how unfair the whole situation was, as the guards hauled her to the ground, ripping her dress to expose her back.
Krystal’s eyes stung with tears— real tears this time— not because of the pain she was about to feel but because of the humiliation.
She was a royal. An Alpha Queen. A Bloodfang. And yet, she was about to be beaten like a dog because of a meal.
She wasn’t sure if she still had her powers. She hadn’t tested the theory yet but she knew if she did, no one in their pack would be able to stop her. Not even the Alpha.
She could try to use her powers now but the risks would be too great. She had no idea who those masked men were and what she was afraid of the most was that they had the weapons and resources to kill her.
She couldn’t let that happen again. So instead of defending herself, Krystal Bloodfang bared her back and let the guards whip her like a dog.
The first whip landed on her back and the pain was so excruciating, it penetrated into her soul.
A grunt escaped her lips but no matter how much the guards whipped her, she didn’t scream like she wanted to.
People began to gather at the square, watching her like a spectacle and cheering as they continued whipping her even if they didn’t know her.
She glared at each of them, spitting out blood. Bunch of animals. Her expression was hard as stone and the fact that she barely showed that she was in pain pissed the guards even more.
They whipped her until they were tired and when they couldn’t go on anymore, they left her battered, bruised and in the pool of her own blood.
When their source of entertainment was gone, the people began to disperse one after the other.
They were too disappointed at the fact that the beatings had stopped to see the injuries on Krystal Bloodfang’s back healing faster than lightning.
