1.I DIED ON MY HAPPIEST DAY
I DIED ON MY HAPPIEST DAY. “Look at the fireworks in the air!” A young girl giggled as she pointed toward the sky, her face glowing beneath the colorful explosions that painted the night. The entire BloodThorn Pack was celebrating. Tonight was not just another ceremony. Their Alpha had taken his mate as his Luna—the woman who had waited five years for this moment had finally worn the crown that belonged to her. “Congratulations, Luna!” The voices echoed through the packhouse, carrying joy, pride, and admiration. Deep inside the Luna’s chambers, away from the crowd, Alicia stood behind Lilith with a smile as she adjusted the final details of her gown. “My Luna, you look beautiful.” Lilith smiled at her reflection in the mirror. The woman staring back at her looked different from the girl she had been five years ago. She was stronger, happier and finally complete. Her fingers gently brushed against the crown resting on her head. “Is it not a beautiful crown, Alicia?” Her eyes remained fixed on the diamonds that sparkled beneath the candlelight. Alicia smiled. “Of course, my Luna. You deserve every single piece of it.” Lilith's lips curved softly. For a moment, her thoughts drifted away from the room. It had been five solid years. Five years of waiting. Five years of loving Lamien Kai. Five years of disagreements, misunderstandings, and moments where she wondered if their bond would survive. But somehow, they survived and chose each other every single time. Becoming the Luna of BloodThorn had never been the dream she carried in her heart but loving Lamien meant accepting everything that came with him. His title, his pack, his responsibilities…they all became hers too. And tonight, she finally stood beside him. “Thank you,” Lilith whispered. Alicia tilted her head. “For what, Luna?” Lilith looked at her through the mirror, her lips curling into a small smile.“For always being here.” The words were simple, but they carried years of memories. For five years, Alicia had been more than a maid. She had been the person Lilith spoke to when she was lonely, she'd been the person who stayed beside her during the difficult moments. The person who wiped away her tears when being an Alpha’s mate became heavier than she expected. Lilith had always wished she had a sister but somehow, Alicia became the closest thing she ever had. Her gaze lowered toward the drawer beneath the mirror. She slowly opened it. Inside was a small red box. The crest of the Kai household was carved into the surface. Alicia's eyes widened slightly. “Have it.” Lilith turned around and held the box toward her. Alicia stared “My Luna—” “Open it.” Lilith stretched her hand further, pushing it gently to Alicia's stomach. Slowly, Alicia took the box and lifted the lid. There was a beautiful necklace inside it. The stones reflected the light, shining brighter than anything Alicia had ever owned. Alicia immediately shook her head.“No. Luna, this is too much.” She closed the box and pushed it back toward Lilith. “This is expensive.” “Yes, I know.” Lilith smiled.“And that is exactly why I chose it for you.” Alicia looked at her. “You saw me through everything, Alicia. Every sleepless night. Every difficult moment. Every time I felt like I wasn't enough.” Lilith stepped closer. “You were there. You deserve even more beautiful things, Alicia.” Alicia's expression softened. For a moment, she said nothing. Her fingers tightened around the box. “You have no idea what this means to me, Luna.” Lilith smiled. “I think I do. You always say you are just my maid. I want you to remember that you were never just that to me.” Alicia lowered her gaze, her fingers tightening around the necklace for a fraction of a second before her smile returned. “What is it?” Lilith asked, her brows curving as she noticed the sudden change. The sadness. The strange look in her eyes. But before she could ask another question, Alicia looked back up. “Nothing.” She forced a smile. “I am just happy you've finally lived to see this moment.” Lilith laughed softly. “Lived?” Alicia quickly looked away. “I mean... after everything you've gone through.” Lilith didn't notice the darkness hidden beneath the words. She only saw her maid who'd become a friend. Her sister “fate” had given to her and the one person she trusted most. Outside, the cheers grew louder. The pack was waiting for their Luna to address them. Lilith stood and adjusted her dress. “Come.” She smiled. “It's time.” Alicia followed behind her till they reached the grand hall. The doors opened, revealing the grand hall filled with people of all status bowing in respect. “Luna Lilith! Luna Lilith! Luna Lilith!” The crowd chorused as she walked down to the podium, waving and smiling as wide as she could. Everyone looked at her with admiration in their eyes but Alicia stood behind her, watching the woman who had everything she ever wanted. For five years, I stood behind her. For five years, I watched the world worship her. Her hands slowly curled into fists because tonight, everyone would celebrate the rise of the Luna. And before the night ended… everyone would watch her fall. ★★★★ Later that night, after the celebration ended, Lilith returned to her chambers. The excitement of the ceremony had finally faded into silence. She removed her crown carefully and placed it on the table. Alicia entered carrying a tray. “You should rest, Luna.” Lilith sighed, pulling out the pins in her hair “I will, darling.” She looked at her reflection one last time. “After tonight, everything feels so unreal.” Alicia stared at her. “Yes.” Her voice was quiet.“Unreal.” Lilith turned around. “Alicia?” Alicia's face snapped to the side in pretense. “Nothing, Luna.” Lilith frowned slightly. Her wolf stirred uneasily, then settled again. It was probably exhaustion after such a long day. Because this was Alicia, the person she trusted and the same person who had served her since she was a teenager at her Father's house until now that she was a Luna. “Thank you for everything.” Lilith smiled. “Of course, Luna.” Alicia’s smirk was so wide and innocent Lilith didn't think much of it. Lilith pulled out the hairpins from her hair while her maid continued putting the Luna's gifts in the right space, as instructed. All of a sudden, Alicia stepped closer…Too close that Lilith turned, noticing the strange expression on her face.“Alicia?” Her hands moved fast…too fast and a sharp pain exploded through Lilith's chest. She stabbed her. Alicia stabbed her. The blade was still buried inside her, but Lilith did not scream immediately. Her body understood the pain before her mind did. A cold, burning sensation spread through her chest, stealing her breath one heartbeat at a time. Her fingers slowly reached down, touching the dagger as if somehow she could prove this was a nightmare. Then her eyes found Alicia, not the dagger or even the blood. Her. “Why?” The word barely left her lips. Alicia's expression did not change and somehow, that hurt more than the blade. Lilith searched her face desperately, looking for the girl who had sat beside her during lonely nights. The girl who had held her hand when she cried. The girl she had called a sister. But she was gone. Or maybe… Maybe she had never existed. “No...” Lilith whispered, shaking her head weakly. “No, Alicia.”Her voice trembled. “You... you were there.” A tear slipped down her cheek. “You were there when everyone doubted me.” she released another breath. Her eyes dropped to the dagger between them as bitter laugh escaped her, broken and painful. “Was that all a lie?” Alicia leaned close enough for only Lilith to hear. "Thank you for trusting me. Everything you loved..." She chuckled darkly, “..is mine now, bitch." Lilith's vision blurred. Everything disappeared until she heard screaming. “She’s alive!” Lilith opened her eyes. And the first thing she saw… Was her own dead body lying on the floor.
