Brielle's POV The first thing Brielle noticed when she came downstairs was that Grandpa wasn't reading his newspaper. The paper was certainly open. It occupied its usual position beside his coffee mug, spread across half the kitchen table. But every few seconds his eyes drifted over the top edge and settled on Wren instead. The second thing she noticed was that Grandma was pretending not to watch. That was harder to spot if you didn't know her well. To anyone else, she would have appeared completely focused on breakfast as she moved between the stove and the counter, transferring pancakes to a serving plate while a second batch cooked in the pan.
