Chapter 1
“Ellie, you have to see this!” Ellie's door was banging continuously without a single stop. Ellie, who was sleeping peacefully on the sofa, was woken up.
She inhaled sharply, and judging her voice, she knew it was her best friend Matte. Ellie frowned at how he had just interrupted her beautiful dream. She was dreaming about how she would be acting on the show in a few weeks and how she would receive the best actress of the year just in a few years. Yes, that had always been her dream—the best actress of the year.
Ellie got up from the sofa. She walked to the door, and she opened the door for her friend, Matte.
“What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at work? Are you slacking off again?” Matte frowned, scolding the man in tight pants.
He was a stylish man in a well-fitted blazer paired with a colourful, patterned shirt and a slim-fitted jean, accentuating his figure. His hair was well-groomed, and in his hand was a fashionable bag—the one he bought along with Ellie during the last summer sale.
Matte had been her friend since high school and her stylist after they had been out of school, and she had been chasing her dream. In short, he had been her greatest supporter; he had always looked out for her. If Matte wasn’t gay, if she didn’t know his preference, she would have thought he liked her like every other person.
Matte barged into the house and slammed the door shut behind him.
“Where did you drop your phone, i***t? I have been calling for over an hour!” He yelled at her.
Ellie's brows snapped together almost immediately. Cellphone.. she had dropped it inside before coming to the living room to watch some movies; unfortunately, she ended up sleeping off on the sofa due to all her sleepless nights when she was preparing for the audition.
Ellie moved closer to Matte, looking a little worried. ”Is anything wrong?” She inquired. She knew Matte wouldn’t call at work because of the company’s protocols, and for him to have called, it must have been something urgent and important.
Ellie watched his lips move, waiting for his next words. “The result... they are out!” Matte announced to her face.
Ellie's face immediately dropped; she couldn’t believe her ears.
“They are really out? The result? Wasn’t it supposed to be out in two weeks?” Ellie asked, looking so stunned.
“I saw it on their forum. They released it earlier than expected!” He exclaimed at her face.
Ellie couldn’t express what she was feeling at the moment. Confused, fearful, happy?
But one thing was sure: she was happy!
Ellie was happy; she had been having sleepless nights waiting for the result. It was finally the end of her wait.
“Let me grab my phone.” She wanted to rush inside her room to grab her cell phone and check out the result, but Matte stopped her.
“But the thing is, the result wasn’t posted online. It was posted on the big dashboard in their company.”
Ellie was stopped on her track; she was taken aback. The company dashboard? Didn’t they tell them that it would be pasted on the company website? It was getting a little suspicious, but she didn’t think much about it.
Ellie took a cab and headed for the company at once after changing her clothes. The moment the car stopped in front of the big building, she stepped out. She inhaled sharply and glanced at the company name, RC Company. It was the biggest entertainment company in the city, and it was always her dream to get signed with them. Today, her wish would be coming true.
Even though she had made many auditions with them and failed. This time, she could boldly say she aced this particular one.
“Isn’t that the girl who wowed all the judges?” She heard some murmurs right behind her.
Ellie smiled even more. Everyone could clearly remember her from that day. Even the judges were stunned at her performance that day.
“I’m sure she will get the female lead. She was so good.” The ladies concluded before swaying their hips in.
Ellie smiled and made her into the company. She wished Matte was with her during the beautiful moment, the moment her dreams would be coming through before her eyes, but he had to return to work to avoid getting fired. Ellie had promised to recruit him as her manager the moment she made it big, and she couldn’t wait for that to happen.
“The dashboard is there!” She heard some girls exclaim, and she made her way towards it with confidence.
There were only a few people at the dashboard checking the roles they got in the upcoming show. The moment they noticed her arrival, they made way for Ellie.
Ellie looked up at the big screen, and just at that moment, a message popped into her phone. It was from Matte.
{“What did you get? The female lead?”}
{“Reply as fast as you see this. I can’t concentrate on work.”} Another message came in from Matte again. He must be dying with curiosity at the moment.
Ellie slipped the phone back into her pocket with a wide smile on her face. She glanced up at the big screen and checked out for her name at the female lead, but the moment she saw the name pasted there, she froze.
“Anderson…
That was her surname, but the name that followed didn’t belong to her.
Her name was Anderson Ellis, but Anderson Vivian was there. That wasn’t her, but her stepsister! Ellie felt the whole world spinning at her feet. She could clearly remember that she never saw Vivian at the audition. That was part of the reason she was confident. It wasn’t that Vivian was better than her, but because she knew Vivian would work her way with her sly smile and her cunning mother to get the female lead.
Ellie was starting to understand what was going on. That was part of the reason the results came out earlier than expected and why they weren’t posted on the company website. Their pictures would be attached, which would cause a big fuss. It was all planned.
Ellie felt a tear roll down her cheek. She felt so betrayed. Why does she always take her place? Why does she always take what belongs to her?
Ellie wasn’t even given the second female lead; she was made just a mere servant in the palace who had just two scenes.
“What’s wrong with her? She didn’t win the female lead?” She heard more murmurs around. She ignored them and made her way towards the exit. She just felt like giving up everything. She had worked so hard for the position, and she couldn’t believe it was snatched away by her stepsister.
Just as she reached the exit, Ellie watched the glass door open. A lady swayed her hips as she walked in, wearing a designer gown and clutching a designer bag tightly beside her. Ellie easily recognised her—it was her stepsister.
The moment Vivian noticed Ellie, she gave a smile—the same sly smile that was on her lips the first day they met. When Ellie’s mother died when she was five, her father immediately brought home a new wife with a daughter he claimed was his.
“Someone has to take over your mom’s place.” She could clearly remember her father's words.
But not the second day she died. But unfortunately, Ellie was too young to say that to her father’s face.
She inhaled sharply and tried to walk away, but Vivian immediately appeared in front of her, blocking her from leaving.
“Sister. You are here!” She beamed at Ellie’s face.
Ellie scoffed. “As if you don’t know that I will.” She rolled her eyes in disgust.
“I know, but…” Vivian paused and moved closer to Ellie, leaning on her ears.
“Oops, sorry, sis, you lose again.” She whispered into her ears.
Ellis clenched her fist tightly. She and her mother never gave her her chance to shine. They kept snatching her spot. When she and her mother took her position from her father, she felt betrayed, but her father never cared.
Ellie stormed away from her sight in anger, and she dashed out of the company. More tears streamed down from her cheek as she walked down the street. It was all always like this for her, but she thought this would make a difference.
What was worse was that Vivian would always choose to do whatever she chose. Even when she joined the band in high school, Vivian was never interested, but she joined too.
Vivian would sneak into her room and check out her schedules. They had always made her life miserable, and that was part of the reason she packed out of the house even though she was penniless, but Kelvin was there for her. Her fiancé.
Just at the same moment, her phone rang. Ellie stared down at the screen, and it was Kelvin.
“How was the result? I heard from Matte that it’s out.”
She sniffed back her tears. Kelvin paused before continuing. “Have you been crying? Did anything go wrong?” he asked, sounding so worried. Ellie wiped her eyes dry. “It's Vivian. I met her at the company. She got the role again.” Kelvin took a deep breath.
“You should come to the clubhouse to tell me everything in detail.” He told her.
I will be there in a minute,' Ellie said and hung up. She sighed and stared at the sky. Her gaze fell on the ring he used to propose to her, remembering how she met Kelvin. Kelvin had always been a blessing to her. When she was being maltreated by her family, he was there for her. Aside from Matte, he was the only family she had. The only thing that made her happy in her miserable life was Kelvin.
Ellie made her way to his clubhouse at once. The moment they stopped in front of the bar house that was buzzing with so many activities, Ellie glanced up at the bar house where Kelvin worked as a manager. She walked in at once with her mind running through a lot of things. Her gaze scanned through the bar house, and it immediately fell on a very tall man at the VVIP lounge discussing with some men. With his great physique, Ellie could easily recognise that it was Kelvin. She advanced at him at once.
Seeing Kelvin, she had strangely forgotten everything about the incident. Kelvin was her joy, the only hope she got. Even the house she was living in belonged to Kelvin, and even though he only earned a little amount at the bar house, he always took good care of her.
Just at the thought of it, Elle’s brows snapped together. Strangely Apart from his name and his clubhouse, Ellie knew nothing else about Kelvin, not even his family or his background.
Ellie ignored the thoughts. What mattered was that he loved her!
