I finally caught her scent in the kitchen. I also smelled blood, and lots of it. She was hiding in the pantry under the bottom shelf. "Angie what happened to you?" I asked my voice thick with concern. She was shaking like a chihuahua. Which doesn't make much sense given that she is a cat shifter not a dog shifter.
When she crawled out I saw why she had the scent of blood one her. There was an arrow sticking out of he hip. It was more like a cross bow bolt but a little bit longer. She had tears in he eye as she said, "It won't come out."
"Is mom still up stairs with Zera?" I asked getting under her shoulder to help her move more easily.
We made our way towards the stairs. But I had to carry her all the way up them because she couldn't move her hip. When we made it to the top I didn't bother putting her down I just carried her into the room and laid her down next to Zera.
"What's going on out there? The cats are cowering under the bed and the little ones are nowhere to be found-" I cut my mom off.
Grabbing her shoulders I said, "Mom they are in the toy box and the dog is guarding them. And the rest I will have to fill you in out in the hall. Please come with me." I led her into the hall and filled her in. From her posture I could tell that she didn't like anything that I had to say. I had to stop her from running to my father's side. "Let me go Lucious I need to help."
"I am going to help dad you help the girls. And call the others for back up." I said trying to get her to calm down. I tried to drag her to the door, but she didn't want to budge. I finally decided to fireman carry her back into the room. "Now Angie said that the arrow won't come out and she is losing blood. Save the girls and I will save dad." I said and ran out of the room.
I made it too the back yard in time to see my dad land on the intruder taking him to the ground. With him distracted I shifted to my cat and Joined the fray. My father moved at the last second. I landed on top of the intruder and took out as much of my anger as I could on him. That is until I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. I forgot about the knife. He stabbed me right in the gut and I fell to the ground barely hanging on to consciousness.
"NO!!!! I will kill you for that. He has a life and a soulmate. Why would you want to take a life?" My father lost his mind on the bad guy. I mean he was already pretty bloody and beaten before but now I don't think that my father is going to let him survive long enough for a trial. I want to witness this but the darkness is closing in on my vision.
Angelica's pov
As my mother was getting some surgical utensils to get this arrow out of my hip I noticed Zera start to wake up. I slowly touched her hand and then held it trying to keep her calm. "Hey there Z, how ya doin?" I asked with a smile on my face.
"Why am I still here? I was hoping to end it all before anything happened to you and your family." She responded, more calm than I thought she would be. But she didn't try to pull her hand away.
"I know that you thought it would have been for the best but you would have hurt the rest of us. My little sister, Livy has been the one bringing in the cool rags for your forehead since you got here. And she's always asking if she has a new big sister.I think that she has grown more attached to you than Lucious has." I said in my calmest voice trying not to let on that anything is happening outside of this room.
Livy came running in crying, "Lucy's hurt, Lucy's hurt. I don't know what to do Angie. What do I do?"
" Livy, get momma to patch him up and you need to calm down. We don't want to upset Z now do we?" I asked in the same calming voice I used with Zera.
"No, I don't want anyone to feel upset. I'll go get momma now and I'm sorry big sisters." She said as she walked out the door.
"I guess you weren't joking about that." Zera said with a frown.
"Hey Z, don't frown. We love you already and we don't want to lose you. Trust me we won't let him get to you either. Just give us a chance even if that means that we go to our cabin in the mountains for a while. At least long enough for him to be captured and put in a cage like the monster he is." I'm trying to get her to open up a little bit. I'm not sure if it's working but I can hope.
She stayed silent for a bit, then she finally said, "I don't want to die. Please help me. I need to live on for my mom, and for all of you." She sounded almost detached like she wasn't really having this conversation. "I feel like this is a dream. I'm going to wake up alone in my bed and he is going to attack me again. I just know that is what's going to happen."
"Oh Z, this isn't a dream. Can't you feel my hand in yours?" I started to cry and I hate crying.
My mom walked in carrying a cot and her tub of operation equipment. I wanted to ask what was going on but my dad walked in right after her carrying my brother. He was dripping blood and it looked like there was a knife sticking out of his stomach. "Livy I need you to help me here. Call Maria and David. Tell them to get here now. We have an emergency. Micheal put up the curtain and I'm going to need you to get that arrow out of Angie. Everybody needs to pitch in here my son might die if we don't."
"What about Layla?" I asked when my mom didn't mention her getting a call. Then I remembered that she left and said that she will never come back. Not unless she was going to be the one to take over the family.
"You know that she wouldn't care about any of this. Baby I know that you want us all back together but we can't give her the power of the family." My dad said. He was at my hip now cutting the entry point open a bit more to get the arrow head out.
I gripped Zera's hand much harder than I had ever planned on. She didn't scream but she did squeeze back. "Thank you for staying strong for me." I said with a tear rolling down my cheek.
