The temperature dropped, warning of the cold coming as soon as the sun went down. Hana gave up her wrestle with the past and bringing her knees up, tried to stand. One of her arms and both legs failed to respond, numb and jelly like from her terrible sitting position. The baby kicked her bladder, causing her to give a low moan and clutch her stomach again. The sensation felt like an iron bar wedged sideways inside her, rigid and immovable. Hana gave in and lay flat on her back, rubbing her numb right arm. She waited through the tingling as the weak tendons came back to life and punished her for the ill treatment. Her foot banged against her handbag as she jerked in pain and Hana heard it fall. The contents clattered out and she watched them slide down the incline. “Damn it!” she exhaled.
