CHAPTER 1 : I'm going home
The messages started three months ago. My husband's Mistress,Natasha, sent them every day without fail. I never replied. They became part of my routine. I anticipated them. They reminded me that my husband was not the man I once knew. Today it was a photo of them in our favourite restaurant. He smiled brightly. I haven't seen him smile like that in months. I clenched my fists. That should be me. I turned off my screen and put my phone in the drawer of my study desk, just then there was a knock at the door. “Come in” my voice echoed in the almost empty home office. Theresa the maid entered the room. She slightly bowed then lifted her head. “What would you like for lunch ma'am? “ she handed me the full menu I had designed. My husband Josh always thought i was too extra but I guess old habits die hard. “No need. I'm eating out today with Jessica. I will be back by 5pm.” Theresa stood there with a blank expression. “You may leave.” I said as I stood from the desk and headed out. Theresa hesitantly followed behind me and went downstairs to the kitchen. Whilst I went down the hallway to the master bedroom. I went straight to the closet and rummaged through the long array of clothes. I finally settled on a black minidress with black tight, black heels and a black trench coat. I paired it with black shades and a black Chanel bag. I slicked my jet black hair in a bun and finished off the look with some soft glam makeup. I stepped back for a second. This was what I had been missing. I felt alive. I did a quick 360 then headed down stairs in a rush. When I went to the driveway our chauffeur Mr Smith followed behind. “Where to ma'am? “ He was trying to keep up with my long strides. “I'm driving myself today, no need “ I took the keys from his hand. Before he could react. His mouth hung open, failing to process what was happening.Mr Smith drove me everywhere. I took the driver's seat of my SUV and turned on the engine. I adjusted the seat slightly then drove off. The large palm trees swayed calmly in the los Angeles sun. I reached suncreest villa by 3pm. It was only a 20 minute drive from our estate. When I reached the lobby Jessica was already headed to the restaurant. “Jessica “ I called her and she turned around. Her blonde hair bouncing around as she noticed me She jumped up and down and came racing down towards me. “ Anna you've outdone yourself you haven't dressed like this in ages” Her bright blue eyes staring proudly. She circled around me then hugged me tightly. “Times have changed,"I said while smirking. We went hand in hand and got to our table. We ordered some linguine and lobster. As we waited Jessica placed her phone on the table and cleared her throat. “Anna is everything okay, it's been a while since we hung out” she looked worried her face was very serious. “Of course Jess . Im fine” I grabbed her hand reassuring her. “You asked for the cleaner that is never fine” she sounded worried. I paused for a second. I couldn't tell her that my husband was cheating. Not now anyways. She was right, the cleaner was someone we called when we needed to Erase things. Right now I was erasing me. “Will be seeing each other more often when I'm going home” she smiled at me with a relaxed expression. Which quickly turned into curiosity. “What about Josh?” She tilted her head like a puppy. “When it's all over I will tell you but for now I need you to trust me” I firmly explained. She didn't ask any more questions. We ate, laughed and reminisced. Jessica and I had grown up together. I had no siblings so she was like a sister to me. Though polar opposites we found common ground. Josh, my husband , didn't like her much so we barely met as soon as I got married. We met here and there for meet ups but it was just never the same. After the meal we decided to get some cheesecake for dessert. We stuffed it in our mouth full of huge bites. It was so rich and soft. 3 slices later my belly could no longer take in anymore. Jessica was also struggling to eat more. She put down her fork and knife in defeat. “I think we should go" Jessica didnt reply she couldn't even breathe properly. I signaled the waiter that we were ready for the bill. The transaction was smooth and we headed out. We took my car as Jessica's chauffeur drove behind us. I gripped the steering wheel hoping it would bring me some comfort. Jessica nudged me motioning that we had arrived. The skyline skyscraper stood so bright as ever. It had been a while since I was here. It felt strange yet familiar. We took the elevator to the 16th floor. As we arrived a man welcomed us and led us into a conference room. Just then a man with slick grey hair and a grey Armani suit entered the room. A shiver ran down my spine. Being in his mere presence made me tremble. He needed no introduction . He was the cleaner.
