The Five Points
GRACE ALLEN HAD tremendous difficulty keeping up with her wandering son. The combination of a serious heart condition and the sweltering July heat had her at the point of exhaustion. The small piece of paper with her notes about each of Patrick’s stops overflowed with information. As of 2 p.m., he’d visited a bookstore, an orphanage, a library, and a museum, and eaten at least two more meals.
Mulberry Street, what the hell is this boy thinking! Surely, he didn’t plan to go all the way to the end of Mulberry—no, he couldn’t be that stupid, she thought. He’ll get himself robbed or worse.
