The Wall of Limerick
INITIALLY, MOLLY MORRISON was hired as part of the kitchen staff at The Colored Orphan Asylum. In time, however, her personality and special skills enabled her to be promoted to work with the children as an aide, and for one hour each week, as their music and dance instructor. A friend of Molly’s, Timothy Flynn, was scheduled to be the guest musician for today’s lesson. He couldn’t imagine why he’d been asked to play Irish music for a bunch of Black orphans.
“Children, this is my friend Timothy. He is going to play some music for us today while we all learn a special dance. Do any of you know what instrument Timothy is holding?”
“That’s a violin, Miss Molly! You had someone play a violin for us last month.”
All of the children started chanting, “Violin!
