Chapter 1: First Day (Leigh's POV)
Buzz... Buzz... Buzz...
I rolled over to turn off my 4 am alarm. A two-hour workout is what I have to look forward to, followed by four hours of actual school and then three hours of training. That will be followed by another two-hour workout when I get back home. I will then eat, shower and sleep just to do it all again.
I have done home school for all of my life until now. Mostly because I was in hiding. I go by my middle name and my mom's last name now so I can hide amongst the other wolves until I turn 18 and can take my place as wolf Queen.
Hi, my name is Leigh Silver. I will be 18 in ten weeks. In ten weeks I will be the Queen of all werewolves. In ten weeks, I hope most of all, to find my mate. That is why I am attending my senior year of high school. I need to learn to be social. I need to get to know the three surrounding packs that protect the Wolfe Kingdom.
I will be attending Wolfe High. Named after the Royal family, my family. My real last is Wolfe. Silver was my mother's maiden name. The only Wolfes left are Uncle Jamie my dad's brother. He is the current Alpha of the Silver Crescent Pack. Aunt Rachel, current Luna of Silver Crescent, and my mom's sister. There is also Jace, their son. He is the future Alpha of Silver Crescent. He will be taking over in about two weeks.
Most days Jace and I hate each other. We fight like brother and sister because that's how we were raised. After the fire at Wolfe House, Uncle Jamie and Aunt Rachel took over as my guardians. I have stayed here hidden or gone off to places to train in all different facets of strength, agility, and endurance. I have trained in dance, gymnastics, martial arts, kickboxing, survival tactics, long-distance running, weight lifting, target shooting, knife throwing... I'm sure I forgot a few but you get the gist. I have done nothing but work since the age of four. My small amount of downtime has been filled with books and a video game, known as Call Of Duty. I love to read. I am a huge Harry Potter nerd. I love fantasy like Percy Jackson. I've loved the outrageous vampire novels like Vampire Diaries and True Blood. I recently just got into this app e-reader and read the After Series. I could barely put the books down.
After my two-hour workout, which consists of me wearing a sweatsuit while running, lifting weights, and doing acrobatics around my home gym, it was time to shower and dress for school. I'm showered and standing in my closet wrapped in a towel trying to figure out how to dress for high school. I am more comfortable in sweat pants a t-shirt and a hoodie, but I don't think that would work. I decide upon a pair of dark-washed skinny jeans, brown boots, and a light blue v neck t-shirt that says " Dreams do come true." in white glitter. I made my way down to grab some food before leaving for school and ran into Jace who was eating as well.
"Holy hell. Do you have to show off to everyone? I don't want all of my friends staring at your t**s all day." Jace yells at me as I entered the kitchen.
I was wearing a very conservative outfit, but the size of my chest makes it hard for anything to look conservative. I somehow got cursed with a size Double D chest. They get in the way. They are heavy, and when I have been around others for training away from here, all people do is stare at them. It makes me want to hide. I'm not sure how to handle the attention.
I turned back around and go to change. This time I ascended the stairs in a pair of Victoria's Secret Pink sweats that are grey with navy writing. And an oversize navy hoodie that says "After We Collided" in light grey letters. I had left on the t-shirt I had on underneath and replaced my boots with some light blue Nikes. I pulled up the right leg of my sweats to show off the nautical star tattoo that is still healing on my right calf. My black hair is pulled up in a messy bun and I didn't bother wearing any makeup but some chapstick.
This time there was no Jace in the kitchen and only Aunt Rachel was to be seen.
"Leigh honey, you are so beautiful. I just wish you would show the rest of the world that." She said while wearing a small frown.
I guess she didn't approve of my current outfit but it was too late. I just nodded and grabbed the blueberry muffin that she had offered me.
"Where's Jace, we need to leave soon?"
"I think he already left."
"Son of a b***h. Your son is an ass."
Aunt Rachel just laughs and says "Most men are honey. Take your bike. It will be easier to park." She calls after me as I leave out the door that opens into the garage.
I hop on my sapphire blue GSXR 1000. The power and speed of the bike under me is thrilling this early in the morning and I am happy that I didn't ride in with Jace now. He would have just been an asshole the whole drive.
I was able to park near the front since they have smaller spaces set there for bikes and scooters. I grabbed my bag and was stomping my way up to the school as someone pulled into the space next to me. I didn't even bother to stop and check out their bike even though it sounded killer. I had a mission to find Jace and tell him off. Then I needed to find the office to get my class schedule.
It took me 5 minutes to find Jace. "Hey, asshat. What happened to waiting for me."
As Jace turned around I realized he was surrounded by a large group of what looked like most of the future leaders. This year Silver Crescent, Blue Moon, and Red Star were all getting new Alphas since all their children were turning 18. I knew who they all were, but they had no clue who I was.
Sarah, who is the Alpha's daughter from blue moon stepped forward before anyone else could speak, and said "b***h get your hands off my man. I will rip your hair out if you speak to him like that again."
I just laughed before saying "Jace you didn't tell me you were dating the pack w***e. I thought you had more morals cuz. Maybe that's why you were so crabby this morning at breakfast."
A few snickers were made by the others at my joke, but Jace turned and replied, "What did I do in a past life to get stuck with you. I left early to get away from you. Now I'm stuck in this school with you. f**k my life. Just go away, Leigh."
My face fell. I knew he was going to be a smart ass, but this was just mean. It's my first day. I don't know anyone, and he can't even be nice enough to wait for me this morning, much less introduce me to the other leaders. "f**k you, Jace," I say as I turn on my heel to try and find the office.
I start to panic because the first bell has already rung, and I got turned around when I found Jace. Now I have no clue where I am, and no clue where the f**k I am going. I round the corner at lightning speed and run face-first into a wall. Or at least I thought it was a wall, but walls don't fall when you make an impact with them.
I had run straight into a guy, and as he fell, I fell with him. "s**t I am so sorry," I said sitting up while still sitting on top of him. He had a hand on me to steady me, which we were both realizing was on my right boob.
"Umm... sorry." He said smiling up at me with a big pearly white smile that is surrounded by dimples and lit up by bright caramel-colored eyes. Dark red hair poked out of his baseball cap he is wearing. He placed his muscular arms behind him as he sat up some. "As interesting of a position this is, I would like to have your name first." He said with a chuckle while looking at where I was sitting, and I felt something stir underneath of me. Umm... Awkward, but also enticing.
My face reddened as I jumped up quickly and offered him my hand. He adjusted himself as he stood and then asked "What's the rush Baby Girl? Can I help you find your class?"
I had been looking at the floor while he spoke out of embarrassment. I finally looked up and answered "The office. I was trying to find the administration office."
"Well, you're in luck." He said spinning me around by my shoulders, pointing to what was behind me, and whispering in my ear. "It's right there. So what's your name?" His breath on my ear causes a chill to run south. Stirring butterflies in its wake, in my lower tummy.
"I have to go. Sorry again." I yelled behind me, as I took off for the office again. I heard him laugh behind me and it set off the butterflies again. He was gorgeous, but I didn't have time to think about that right now. I need to focus.
I made it to the office finally and got my schedule. They run an A-B schedule. Where I will have Chemistry and AP English one day and then Ancient History and Calculus the next day. This will be followed by lunch and then three hours of training. I will have to go through an evaluation before I can be placed in the leaders' group which is bullshit but whatever. Either way, I will be in the leaders' group. They just want to make sure I'm not some lazy ass pansy.
I easily found my Chemistry class that was right down the hall from the office and made it a few minutes after the bell rang. I hand the teacher, Mr. Reach, my pass and he pointed me to the last empty desk in the room. Shortly after I take my seat another person enters the class. Of course, it's the guy that I ran into and straddled 15 minutes ago. My face is surely bright red now.
"So glad you could join us future Beta. Mr. Forester, please take your seat next to miss Silver."
Crap why does he have to be a Forester. If he's the future Beta that makes him Jace's best friend Oliver. Great. Oliver shot me a million-watt smile as he walked to the table. I lowered my head to stare at my notebook that I had already started doodling on.
"Never did I imagine, I'd be running into you again so soon, Baby Girl." He said with a laugh.
I just stayed quiet with my head down. I knew all about Oliver and I didn't want to get caught up in his charms. Even though he was very charming, I knew he wasn't authentically interested.
As Mr. Reach started to go over the syllabus for the year, Oliver leaned into me and whispered in my ear, "Did I do something wrong?"
I just shake my head. He is very close to me right now. I can feel his breath against my ear. His words leave behind a tingle that travels south down my body again.
"Then why won't you talk to me? Huh? I'm a nice enough guy. I promise. Can I at least get your name, or shall I just continue to call you Baby Girl?" He asks still against my ear, his lips just barely brushing up against it. This caused my face to flush and a shiver to run down my body. I was afraid to shake my head again with him so close. "I may not know your name but I think I have found a sensitive spot on you Baby Girl." He took this moment to run his nose along my ear. I had to stifle the moan that threatened to escape my throat.
"Mr. Forester." Mr. Reach called out. "Please flirt on your own time. You may want to pay attention so you can graduate."
"I am perfectly capable of doing both. I know all of the details of the partner project you were describing and that it will make up 80% of our grade. I kept up with all of that while attempting to flirt with the pretty girl next to me. It seems that I was doing a better job of listening to you though, than flirting with her. I can't even get her to tell me her name. Do you know what it is sir?"
"Give the girl some space Mr. Forester. Maybe she actually came to school to learn. Miss Silver if you would like to change lab partners just let me know. I would completely understand."
I just buried my face in my hands. This is so embarrassing. I'm sure that my face is bright red. Why me? Why on my first day? I was relieved when the bell rang out ending class and I was released from this hell.
"So what's your next class. I don't want you getting lost again and run someone else over." He says giving me another huge smile. Thankfully he is back to keeping an acceptable distance. I grab my stuff to leave and he grabs my arm. "Really, did I like run over your cat or something this morning."
I couldn't help myself, I laughed. "You don't know when to give up do you."
"Nope." He said popping the p. "Let me walk you to your next class."
"Fine stalker. Show me the way to AP English, Mrs. Waller's class."
"That's easy. My sister's in that class and it's not far." He told me as he put an arm around my shoulder. "I'll ask her to show you the way to lunch. You should sit with us."
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why not Baby Girl?" He licks his lips as if I am his prey. I'm sure that's all I am to him.
"I have my reasons."
"A woman of mystery. I like it." He says giving me another megawatt smile. As we reached the classroom he spins me and presses me up against the lockers next to the door. "I will have that name by the end of the day, Baby Girl." He whispered into my ear and gave it a small nibble before moving away and disappearing into the crowded hallway.
"What actual the fuck." I rant a little too loudly.
"Umm... Sorry." A red-haired girl said as she was entering the class. "Hey, you're the new girl. Jace's cousin, right? I didn't catch your name, but I loved the way you stood up to Sarah. She is such a b***h. Jace was so rude. Please tell me you are in this class?"
"Yes." I smiled at her. I have had an extremely awkward morning and this is the first normal conversation I have had all day. "Yea, hi. My name is Leigh."
"I'm Olivia, but please call me Liv." She introduces herself with a warm smile stretched across her face.
"s**t, your Oliver's sister aren't you."
"The one and only, unfortunately. He's my twin so I'm stuck with him. Why? What did he do?" I proceeded to tell her about my morning starting with my asshat of a cousin and ending with her brother at the door.
"I can't believe you turned him down. That's really good for his ego. He needs a girl to tell him no every now and then. And Jace is a douche. You should have never changed this morning. You should let me braid your hair at lunch before we go to training.
"Ummm... Ok. I've never had a female friend. I was home-schooled. So that sounds really nice. You're not being nice to me and then going to try to like chop my hair off or something are you."
"Wow. Paranoid much? No. I will let that slide though. But if Sarah is ever acting this nice to you, I would say run." We were both laughing when Mrs. Waller calls the class to attention. I think I just made my first friend.
When the class finished, I followed Liv to lunch. "I really don't want to sit with Jace or Oliver." Liv giggled. "What?"
"Sorry every time you call Ollie, Oliver it makes me smile. He hates it. So please do it often in front of him. And we will find a table of our own." We grabbed some pizza from the lunch line and sat at a table that she said was far from where the other leaders normally sat. About halfway through lunch, she pointed out that Jace isn't here, which she seemed saddened by. It was also brought to my attention, that Oliver seemed to be on his way over here.
"Hey, little sis. Can you tell me what this pretty girl's name is?" Oliver rings out with that stupid, sexy smile across his lips.
"I know it, but I think I'll let her tell you when she's ready."
He let out a low growl towards Liv but she just smiled back. The lunch tables were bench seats and Oliver chooses to sit next to me. He sat facing me with one leg on each side of the bench. Oliver grabbed me and pulled me by the waist closer to him, so he could whisper in my ear again, "Still looking for that name Baby Girl. What do I have to do to get it?" His embrace is so warm.
"Why does my name matter so much, Oliver?" I try to sound disinterested but it comes out more breathless. Liv giggles at both of us.
His look softens a little when I said his name. "I want to know my future mate's name."
Liv looked at me with her mouth open, like she was even more shocked by her brother than I was. I stood up and Liv said, "Come on, Baby Girl we have to go get changed for training. See ya later Ollie." I quickly followed out behind Liv. I looked back at our table and Oliver was still there looking lost.
"You like him, don't you?"
"No, yes, maybe. I don't know. I just met him. And he is very persistent. But I know his reputation. It's the same a Jace's. I'm not looking for a hook-up. I just want to turn 18 and find my mate."
"I have a question and you don't have to answer." I shook my head for her to continue. "You said that you have been home-schooled your whole life."
"Yes," I replied as we sat in the locker room and she started to French braid my hair in two braids from front to back. I have really thick hair that is very long, so she has a lot of hair to braid.
"Have you ever done anything with a guy?" I just shake my head. I have never even kissed a guy. "Then run screaming from my brother. I love him, but he does not have pure intentions with you or any female."
I just nodded sadly as I pull out my supplied clothing for training. "What the f**k?"
"I'm beginning to think that, that is your slogan. What's wrong?"
"It's at least the slogan of the day, and some jackass messed up the sizing of my clothes."
"What do you mean?"
"They gave me a small top and bottoms. I was supposed to have an extra-large top and medium bottoms."
"Why do you need such a large top."
"I'll show you." I went into the bathroom stall to put my outfit on because I'm not comfortable enough to change in front of everyone just yet.
When I came out Liv was trying to hide her laughter but she couldn't. It looked like I had stolen a child's bra and panties. I could barely get my boobs in the shirt. "What am I going to do?" Liv offered to swap with me. It would be small on her, but her size medium top and bottom would help some but not enough. I opted to leave my hoodie on over my clothes before heading to training.
Sarah came up on the other side of Liv as we were walking out. "Your friend is going to get in trouble for being out of uniform."
"Just go away, Sarah. They gave her the wrong size clothes."
Sarah pushed past us as Liv asked "You ready?"
"Ready as I'll ever be," I said as we took our first steps onto the training field.
There was a loud whistle blown and a trainer shouting, "No outside clothing on the field. Take that hoodie off new girl."
"What the f**k?" Why can't I catch a break today?
