"Rejection doesn't mean you aren't good enough; it means that the other person failed to notice what you have to offer." ~ Mark Amend Chapter One "Deep breath Davina, all you have to do is drive up his driveway and knock on the door like you have been doing for the past three years and a half, except instead of sleeping with the guy you'll be talking to him," Davina says to herself as she tries to calm her racing heart in her chest as she stares at the closed gate of the villa bellissima mansion in Sarasota, Florida that Elio Russo lived in. Releasing a shaky breathe, Davina reaches her hand out the window space of her silver 2020 Porsche 718 spyder and pressed the red button to inform one of Elio's maids or butler that she had arrived. A minute doesn't go by before the gate starts to lift up with a clicking noise, Davina clears her throat and starts driving up the long driveway, smiling at the several gardeners that were attending to the rose bushes and lawn on the hot winter morning. Davina parked her car in the usual spot that she normally did when she visited Elio, right beside his electric blue 2020 Lamborghini Aventador S, a gift from his wife Petra Russo on his twenty-sixth birthday. With a sigh, Davina exited her car placing her car keys inside her little Gucci Dionysus GG Supreme bag and made her way up the small steps, her heels clicking against the marble. She knocked three times before the door opened revealing Orthur, Elio's butler, an old man who has been attending Elio's needs ever since he was a child living in Venice, Italy. Davina smiled at Orthur as he smiled back allowing some space for her to walk in. Davina looked around the open area, her eyes taking in the poorly painted canvases that decorated the walls that Petra painted, the paintings not going good with the marbled floor at all. A continuous staircase was straight ahead that led to the upper level of the house where the bedrooms, library, and home offices were held. Making her way up the stairs Davina started towards Elio's office where he said he would be. Normally Davina wouldn't be a nervous wreck when she would come to Elio's house but today was different, today she would be dropping some news that would be changing their relationship whether it be good or bad. When she finally reached the white double doors she doesn't bother knocking and just goes right in. Elio had his head down looking at the documents in front of him. He had on a skin tight white button up shirt that showed his tattoos on his arms and chest, Davina licked her lips as she looked at him fighting the urge to run her hands through his brown hair. The door clicks shut behind her before Elio finally looks up from his papers, a soft smile forming on his face as he looks at Davina. "Hey Gorgeous," He says putting his pen down standing up from his desk and making his way to the front of it. "Hey," she whispered placing her purse down on one of the mini tables before making her way over to where his desk was. Elio leans against desk crossing his arms across his chest causing his muscles to flex, his green eyes shining from the sunlight that made its way into the room from the windows. "How are you? Did you get much sleep after I left?" Elio asked holding his arms out allowing Davina to walk into his arms. The events of last night flashed in Davinas mind like a movie, a faint pink blush kisses her cheeks. Elio chuckles wrapping his arms around her waist pulling her against his chest, his heart beating a little faster as she rested her head against his chest. Davina sighs in delight, her light green eyes closing as she takes in his warmth and enjoys the feeling of being wrapped in Elio's embrace for she wasn't sure if she'd be able to do this after she tells him what's been eating her from the inside for the past two days. Elio plants a soft kiss on the top of her head before pulling away slightly still keeping his hands on her waist as he shifts his body so that he could properly see her. "What did you want to talk about?" He asked to which Davina sighed lifting her head from his chest and opening her eyes. The anxiety that was eating her away last night came rushing back as she looked up at Elio, his green eyes showing affection and comfort towards her. 'You can do it Davina, just tell him and get it over with it's like ripping off the bandaid.' "What day does Petra come home?" Davina asks diverting the attention away from her for a second while she grows the balls to tell Elio what has been eating her alive for the past two days. "Seriously? You're wanting to know when my wife comes home?" Elio asks raising an eyebrow at the girl like she grew a second head. Davina shrugs her shoulders adverting her gaze down towards her fresh manicure she got an hour ago, her heart hammering in her chest. She knew it was abnormal for her to ask when Petra was due to come home but if he thinks that she was just asking so they could have a quickie in his office then that was fine by her, she was good to talk about which Oompa Loompa she resembled before even considering blurting out what she really came to talk to about. "She comes home Monday, now tell me what you really want to tell me and don't sugar coat it either Davina," Elio stated sternly placing his right index finger on her chin and lifting it so that they were seeing eye to eye. Davina started into Elio's green eyes, her heart beating a million miles an hour as she tried to see if there was any other emotion in his eyes other than the happiness he had. The soft music that Elio was playing from his MacBook wasn't helping her calm down and neither was the reassuring smile or circles that he was doing along side her lower back. "Just, promise not to be mad or anything." Davina whispered causing his mood to switch to concern. "I promise," Davina sighs, "I'm pregnant." Elio's thick eyebrows furrow in confusion as he drops his hands from Davina's waist, his green eyes baring no emotion. Davina bites her lip, her fingers tapping against each other as she takes a step back giving them some sort of distance between them. 'Oh god, he's angry. He's going to kill me so that the world doesn't know that Elio Russo, CEO of Russo Enterprise, got his dirty mistress pregnant.' Davina thought to herself as she watched Elio waiting for his emotion of blank to turn of one to anger or one of a killer. Elio doesn't say anything neither does Davina she didn't want to jinx herself by speaking and having Elio snap out of whatever he was in and begin to yell at her for she didn't know how he would feel about the situation, for sure he would feel anger after all he just found out that he impregnated his mistress and not his wife, the woman he had been married to for the past two years. "Elio-" "Don't," he says stopping her before she could say anymore, his eyebrows still crunched together as he adverts his head down to stare at the floor. "Don't say anything," Davina closes her mouth nodding her head silently. Tears started to weld up in her eyes the familiar burning in her nose surfacing as she blinked rapidly to keep the tears at bay and not cascade down her face like a rainstorm in Costa Rica. She wanted a black hole to form in the middle of his office and swallow her up and take her away from this place, she knew he wasn't going to be happy, it was common sense every mistress knows that the other person wouldn't be happy if somebody they were sleeping with on the down low got pregnant but it was different for Elio and Davina. Yes, Elio was married to Petra but before Petra there was Davina. Davina and Elio were in a relationship both meeting each other at a charity event that Davina's grandfather hosted each year to help raise money for different charities each year. At the time Davina was only merely reaching the age of eighteen and Elio just celebrated his twenty-third birthday the previous month. Of course, they did keep their relationship on the down low from the media and from their friends and family for the first year but after things got more serious but once they went public Leonardo Russo, Elio's father, wasn't too happy and arranged a marriage for Elio to marry Petra Ivanov, a Russian woman who was the heiress of a Russian company that Leonardo was trying to merge his company with. When Davina found out she was upset and wanted to try everything that she could to get Elio out of marrying Petra but she knew she couldn't do anything because once Leonardo has his mind set on something there's no way to change his mind. She thought Elio would be devastated when he found out that he was set to marry a woman he had yet to meet and he was but what shocked Davina the most was that he was willing to go through with it if it meant making his father happy, claiming that Davina was still young and would find somebody new, somebody who would love her more than he did. It went on for three months, Davina didn't speak to Elio for a year and he didn't make any effort to speak to her. Davina was heartbroken but was trying everything in her will power to get over Elio and move on even if that meant getting under somebody new, but of course, fate has something else in its sleeve. The night before Elio was due to marry Petra, Elio came knocking on her door telling her that he wasn't ready to let her go quite yet and suggested an agreement where they wouldn't have to let go. Become his mistress. "Are you sure it's mine?" Elio asks snapping Davina back into the present, his words stabbing her heart like a knife as she looks at Elio in shock. "Did you seriously just ask me if it was yours?" She asked her mouth slightly parted in shock, tears slowly blurring her vision. "You know you're the only man I've ever been with since our agreement." Elio sighs pinching the bridge of his nose slowly nodding his head. "I know, I'm sorry. How could this have happened? You've been on birth control the whole time." "It just happened, sometimes it's not effective you know." Davina says her voice slightly cracking. Her heart began to slowly clench in pain as Elio just looked disappointed. She knew it wasn't a good idea to continue the affair with Elio but she loved him and deep down she knew he loved her even if he was married to a beautiful woman like Petra. It was no secret between them that him and Petra would have s*x, she's heard them and Petra has spoken to her about their crazy s*x stories for she was a friend of Elio's in Petra's eyes. It hurt Davina every time she would hear the stories and the smile on Petra's face whenever she would talk about any romantic gesture that Elio would do for her. Elio would say it was all an act but deep down she knew that some of it wasn't after all, you can always fall in love with somebody new when you spend time together. "Are you going to keep it?" He asks to which Davina nods her head. She was very religious in the Catholic Church, she wasn't going to get an abortion and she couldn't live with herself if she ever gave her baby up for adoption, she doesn't want somebody to take care of her child. Davina thinks adoption is amazing and are proud of the families who adopt but personally she could never give her own child up for adoption but she would adopt if the opportunity came up. "You know how I feel about those things," she whispered. Elio sighed leaning back against his desk, his hands covering his face leaving Davina to stare down at her heels, the blue nail polish picking through. "I'm sorry," Elio finally says causing her to look up from her toes and up to him, his hands still covering his face. "Why are you sorry?" Davina asks, her voice slightly shaking. Her mind was running with different scenarios of what he could say while her heart was slowly starting to break because it knew what was coming. "I'm sorry that I got you pregnant and I'm sorry that I can't be there for you." "Y-you can't be there for me?" Davina asked taking a step back, her hands shaking by her side. "W-what do you m-mean?" "It means that I don't want anything to do with the baby and I'm done with the affair." "Honestly, this is a good wake up call for me that I need to grow up and focus on trying to make a family with my wife. I'm sorry Davina but I don't love you anymore, I have felt this way for awhile now actually." Crack! Davina's hand goes to her heart where it clenches in pain as she stares at the cold expression on Elio's face as he stares back at her. The tears that she was keeping at bay finally cascaded down Davina's face. She doesn't say anything as she just nods her head as she grabs her bag from where she placed it and cleared her throat. "If that's how you feel I'll be leaving, you have a great life Elio," Davina says standing up straight and wiping the tears from under eyes. Elio doesn't say anything to her as she starts walking to the door, her hand rests on the door handle before she turns around and gives Elio one last look before shaking her head. "If you decide later down the road that you want something to do with our child, you're not going to get the opportunity because I'll make sure my child knows that their own father couldn't love them when they were just a cell." With that said Davina walks out of his office for the last time slamming the door on her way out, the tears that were once clogged up in her throat and running down her face like a flood were long gone and was replaced with determination. ༺═──────────────═༻ Davina walked into her penthouse, her eyes throbbing in pain from the amount of crying she did on the ride home from Elio's place. All she wanted to do was climb into a warm bubble bath and relax her body from the stress of today and take a nap. Usually she would drink her sorrow away and watch sad episodes of Grey's Anatomy so that if anybody stopped by unexpectedly she could give them an excuse on why she was crying like a banshee but of course, with her being pregnant she couldn't drink. Walking into her bathroom, Davina starts herself a bath. She connects her phone to the speakers she had installed in her walls and sighs as she looks at her tired reflection in the LED mirror. Elio's words were repeating in her head over and over again like a broken record, 'I don't love you anymore.' She knew that Elio wasn't going to have a good reaction to the news of her pregnancy but she didn't think that he would tell her that he didn't love her nor did she think he would say that he wasn't going to be there for her because the old Elio would have no matter the circumstances. What she didn't understand was why did he continue their affair if he didn't feel anything for Davina? Was he just keeping her around for the s*x? Shaking her head, Davina steps away from the mirror and looks over to the tub that was starting to fill up and turned the water off. If she wanted to move on from Elio she needed to stop thinking about him and his rejection and focus on herself and her future child. She wasn't going to wait for Elio to step up and face his consequences because deep down inside she knew that his stubborn ass won't and she had to accept that. She had to accept what fate threw her way and that was her being a single mother at the mere age of twenty-one then so be it, that's exactly what she'll do. She stayed in the bath allowing the warm water to relax her body before she got out. Wearing some cotton shorts and an old t-shirt that belonged to her father, she made it to her living room where she was going to spend the rest of her night watching Criminal Minds and shoving spoonful after spoonful of Rocky Road ice cream into her mouth. "Why couldn't I have gotten pregnant by Matthew Gray Gubler?" Davina asked herself as she scooped another spoonful of ice cream. She didn't get a response nor was she planning on receiving one. Instead she just focused on taking her mind off today's events by focusing on Matthew Gray Gubler be the man of her dreams. ༺═──────────────═༻ The next morning, Davina quickly got ready for her lunch date with her two best friends, Alice and Maria, two girls that she had been friends with since middle school. Aside from Elio and her parents, Davina's pregnancy was a secret but she planned on sharing the news with the two girls who she knew would be by her side every step of the way and respect her wishes about keeping it on the down-low on who was the father of her baby especially after Elio's reaction and his marital status. As much as Davina would like to have Elio apart of their child's life she knew that he wasn't going to jeopardize his image in the media and wasn't about to ruin his marriage for a girl that he didn't even love even if she was having his child. None of that mattered to her anymore, after all Elio has proven who/what he prioritized and Davina wasn't on that list. Dressing in a simple black crop top and white skinny jeans, Davina made her way to Cafe Trio, an elegant Italian restaurant that Maria's father owned. She blocked out all thoughts of Elio and the baby and just focused on getting to the restaurant safely for she had the tendency to not pay attention to her surroundings when she was thinking about a stressful situation. When Davina did arrive at the restaurant, she parked her car in front of the valet parking. She smiled at the boy behind the desk quickly giving him her keys before walking inside instantly being swarmed with the smell of the different types of Italian foods that the restaurant served. Davina walked up the curved staircase that were located right in front of the doorway that led to the upper level of the restaurant where the upperclassman normally sat. Davina and her friends normally sat at one of the tables located on the balcony that overlooks the ocean. Davina loved coming out during the summer and watching the dolphins swim out in the distance and watching the sun set casting a orange pinkish glow. "Davina! You look beautiful honey!" Rosalinda, Maria's mother greats her as she walked out onto the balcony, a bottle of rosé and three wine glasses. "Thanks Rose but not as nearly as you do," she smiled sweetly as she gave the old woman a kiss on her cheek. Rosalinda rolls her eyes as she follows the girl towards the table that Maria and Alice were already seated at. Maria sat on the chair closest to the wall on the right side, her brown hair neatly curled to perfection wearing a yellow sundress that hung to her curves. She smiled when she noticed Davina walking over towards them and patted the chair that was between her and Alice. "Davina!" Alice and Maria both said in unison, Alice wearing a similar outfit to Maria's except hers was blue and her blonde hair was straight and stopped mid shoulder. "Hey guys, hope you guys weren't waiting too long." She apologized as she sat in the middle placing her purse down between her legs. "Nah, we just got here. Maria slept in." Alice replied rolling her eyes as she took one of the filled wine glasses. Davina nodded her head and grabbed the glass of water that was in front of her ignoring the questioning looks that both girls were sending her way when she didn't grab the wine glass like they did. Maria asked, "No wine?" to which Davina shook her head looking away from the brunette and towards the green eyed blonde. "So tell me, anything new between you and Porter Alice?" Davina asked quickly averting the attention away from her. Alice sighs shaking her head putting her glass down and her chin in her left hand, a pout on her plumped lips. "Unfortunately, no. He still hasn't asked me to marry him nor has he made any hint that he wants that. I mean we've been together for nearly ten years! How much longer does he expect me to wait?" Davina gives the girl a sad smile and pats her hand. It was true, Alice and Porter have been together since they were twelve, the two have been inseparable and have experienced everything together! They were each others first kiss, first relationship, first everything! It was clear that the two were going to last especially with all the love that they share for one another but like Alice said, he has yet to ask her to marry him and it was bringing a toll down on Alice. Davina knew that Porter was just waiting for the right time to ask Alice but at the same time she thought Porter should just suck it up and ask her already because they were already practically married as it is they just didn't have the rings or papers to go along with it! "Maybe he's going to ask you for Christmas?" Maria said with a smile hopefully to make the young blonde smile and take her mind away from the thought of him not wanting to marry her. "That's nearly in two weeks, I highly doubt that! Besides, every time I bring up the word marriage he cringes away and pretends that he didn't hear me!" Alice replies shaking her head taking another sip of her wine. "I think he's just waiting for the right time, don't stress about it plus if you want to marry him that bad maybe you should be the one to propose?" Davina suggested causing Alice to choke on her wine and stare at her in horror like she couldn't just believe at what she just heard. "Me? Why would I ask a man to marry me!? The man should be the one to ask the woman unless it's a gay couple!" Alice said shaking her head. Davina sighed and shook her head. There was nothing she could do to change her friends mind. She knew she was one of those girls who likes traditional things and wanted the guy to do everything while she just stayed at home being a housewife, something she learned from her mother because she was the same way. "Look, why don't we change the subject! Davina, you said you had something to share with us." Maria said with a warm smile, her chocolate brown eyes sparkling as the afternoon sun shines down upon them making her look like a goddess. "Oh, um yeah, I guess I could share." Davina awkwardly laughed looking down at the table, her hands starting to feel sweaty from being nervous. Maria and Alice both give the girl a reassuring smile encouraging her to continue. Davina bites her lip taking a deep breath as the nervousness settles in the pit of her stomach as the events of yesterday came flashing through her mind like a movie. What if they reacted the same way as Elio? No, they wouldn't! They were her best friends and have been there for her for far more worse than this. Shaking those thoughts of her mind, Davina clears her throat and sits up straighter to give her body the full confidence she needed before spilling the beans to her friends. "I'm pregnant," The area around them grew quite aside from the music playing from the band inside. Maria's mouth was parted open in shock whereas Alice looked pale like a full moon on a chilly fall night. "I'm going to go see if the food is done," Rose says walking away from the three girls to give them some privacy but not before sending Davina a smile which Davina sadly returns and starts to chew on the inside of her lip. The metallic taste of blood drops onto Davina's tongue from how hard she was biting her lip, her body getting a wave of sadness down her body as her friends sit there without saying anything, not even a smile in sight. "A-are you sure?" Alice whispered to which Davina nodded her head probably a little too quickly. "Yes, I took a test two weeks ago and it came back positive and I've been showing symptoms too." "Are you sure it wasn't a false pregnancy positive? My cousin had one of those once," Maria said shaking her head to which Davina nodded her head with a smile. "Yeah, I'm a hundred percent positive. I went to the doctors to get a blood test done as well to double check. I'm four weeks today." "How long have you known?" Alice whispered to which Davina shrugged and looked down at her lap. "I sort of had a feeling that I was pregnant deep down but I didn't want to believe it until after a test. The doctor confirmed it about three days ago." Maria nodded her head taking a sip of her wine, a soft smile on her face. "Does Elio know?" Davina nodded her head a frown settling on her face. "He didn't take the news well, did he?" Davina nodded her head again, the tears starting to well up in her eyes once more. "Awe, I'm sorry Davina, he doesn't deserve you." Both Alice and Maria say as they do a small group hug comforting the girl as she cried. Davina doesn't say anything as she enjoys the support and love of her friends. She knew that this would be the kind of reaction she would get from them and it made her a little bit happier. She didn't need Elio's support nor did she need his love all she needed was the love and support from the people who actually care for her and would do anything for her. "At least now you can try and find your Draco Malfoy," Alice joked referring to Davina's long time crush on the fictional character since elementary school, pulling away from the the hug earning a laugh from the crying girl. Davina shakes her head as she wipes under her eyes the tears no longer falling as she took a deep breath. "When I start dating Tom Felton, I will personally buy you Disneyland Alice." Alice sent a wink to the girl. Davina shook her head and looked over to the door where Rose just walked through carrying a tray with their food on it. Thankfully for them, Rose knew exactly what they liked to eat and they didn't have to order it for she already knew. Setting down a plate filled with a three cheese pasta in front of Davina, she places a hand on the girls shoulder and gives it a reassuring squeeze. "You'll make an excellent mother beautiful," she says before walking away. ' I pray to God that I will be.' Davina thought to herself as she began to eat her pasta the conversation of her being pregnant leaving the table.
