Chapter Two: A prince’s charming visit

1399 Words
Mrs Houston had always looked out for her all through her degree and master’s program, thus Diane had come to see her as her god grandmother in a way. Mrs Houston was one of the respectable forces in the business world, her skills were really good and she had only decided to come back and lecture after spending a long time in the business field. “I have read your thesis, it’s impressive as always” Mrs Houston said with a broad smile as Diane sat down opposite her “I made some changes to it since I forwarded it to Celestial group on my recommendation” she added as she took a sip of the tea that was in front of her chuckling at Diane’s stunned expression “Ce…Celestial?” she managed to say, Celestial was one of the leading financial magnates in the world. The company had various sectors and were very strict in their recruitment policies. Diane knew that even though Mrs Houston had a very impressive reputation, it was not enough for Celestial to change their policies or give her face “are you doubting yourself or our school, I sent your qualifications along with it” Mrs Houston said as she had a slight idea of Diane was thinking “how could the best student in our school’s faculty not be impressive enough for Celestial” she said and scoffed. Diane smiled at Mrs Houston protectiveness and nodded weakly “can I see the forwarded thesis, so I can see my shortcomings” she asked since Mrs Houston had said she added some things, then that meant there was still room for improvement on that end. After they both looked through her work, Diane left there and headed to her part time job. She had three part time jobs, one was three days in a week, while one was twice a week, the last one was every day and was for four hours. She had fixed a schedule with the other two jobs so that it wasn’t too tight. Her second per time job was tutoring, she was able to get the boy’s mother to agree to Fridays and Saturdays while the first one was an analyst for a small company that just started. She reported there Wednesday morning, Friday morning before school ended where she will head to the boy she had to tutor after and then go to her waitress job last. She had been a waitress at the restaurant for four years now, she had a good relationship with the manager and even sometimes helped him out with some management and organization method thus he agreed to make all her shift to be in the evening time. The only detriment was, it was a fancy restaurant and thus had more customers in the evening and thus she had to expend more energy to make the time work around school and work at the same time. The only work she had today was the waitress job so she went back to her dormitory to drop her school materials, rested for a while and then started to study, if she could study now, she will be able to rest earlier after work. She was on the last course that she wanted to read that day when her phone rang. It was Nelly name popped on the screen “are you at work? Aiden is around and wants to see” Nelly said excitedly. Diane was surprised and her hands holding the phone shook, Aiden had been her first friend in this school, but after graduation he had to go home to take over his family’s business so they didn’t let him further on the course. He had taken business management like Diane and they were both inseparable, she had lived in his penthouse from her second year to her final year and he had offered that she stayed in his penthouse even after he left but Diane refused, she didn’t like being a burden to anyone besides, he had allowed her to live rent free in his house for three years and she was able to save her accommodation costs thus she felt that Aiden had done enough. While they stayed together, he had always made sure he got the groceries, all she had to do was cook and he even helped her with assignments and what not anytime her hands were too tied, thus she didn’t want to live off his house after he left. But that didn’t change how Diane felt about Aiden. After her father, he was the next most important to her, the older brother she never got to have. “Where is he now? I’ll go over now” Diane said, closing the book she was currently holding and went towards her wardrobe to pick an outfit to wear to work, “he’s currently with me, we are in school but we were thinking of heading over to your work place” Nellie replied “okay, I’m in my dorm. I’ll call you back soon” she said and started looking through her wardrobe. She didn’t have a lot of clothes since she never had to go anywhere and she didn’t have to bother about her work since her first two works didn’t mind her being dressed simply and the restaurant work required that she would have to change before it was time for her shift, thus there was not much for Diane to pick from but she still picked one of her best dress regardless as she didn’t wish to make Aiden worry or think she wasn’t living well. She had just finished packing her hair into a high bun with some loose tendrils framing her petite face and wanted to call Nelly and ask her where they were at the moment but Nelly called before she could “we are in front of your dorm already, hurry….” Nelly trailed off as another voice was heard through the phone “take your time Ane” he said and Diane’s face broke into a wild smile as she rushed out of her room “I’m onmy way already don’t worry” she said and ended the call. Ane was how Aiden called her, she felt really nice hearing him again and she raced from the third floor to the first floor at her fastest speed. When she got downstairs she looked around and saw a little crowd of girls staring at something, she turned and looked around wondering where Nelly and Aiden were “didn’t I tell you to take your time?” she heard the familiar voice say behind her. Diane turned and saw Aiden’s figure in front of her, he looked as good as before and looked even better, his eyes were clean and bright and he stood there in his windbreaker like the moon shining and yet looking over everyone. After taking him in for about a minute or so, Diane rushed into his arms “Aiden!!” he said throwing her petite body into his arms and Aiden held her tightly and then spun her around “you have lost so much weight” he said as he released her a little to look into her eyes. Her eyes were as bright as the first time he saw, her eyes always first like you could see everything in the world through them “have you not been eating well?, how is your school work? Are you coping?” Aiden asked a bunch of questions at once making Diana chuckle lowly “haven’t I always managed just fine. Exams are in a month, I’ll be done soon” she said shaking her head at his worry. He had always been like this, always caring about her and worrying that she would be too tired or uncomfortable. Diane buried her head into his arms back “have missed your silly ass so much. Why are you back?” She didn’t understand why he was here, although in the same country, his home was quite a distance from here and she had thought she wouldn’t get to see him anytime soon again. And even when they talked on phone not too long along, he had not mentioned anything about having to travel down here for anything so she was surprised and curious.
