Running Away From Home
Miranda's POV:
I walked in our 2 bedroom apartment coming from the supermarket in our neighborhood.
Of course my parents are drinking since it's a Friday night.
I place the carrier bag I was carrying on the dinning room table and walk up to my parents.
"Good evening, mom, dad".
"Hey", they both say in sync.
Satisfied with their response, I plopped down on the empty couch.
"Mom, can I please apply for Varsity now?", I ask with a pleading tone.
I've been asking this same question ever since I finished high-school, which is of course 2years ago, and I always get the same response, 'I don't have money right now', 'it's my money so I'll pay for that when I want to', always, but she has more than enough money to buy alcohol.
"Miranda... ", sighs, "....I don't have money right now",my mother says.
"Of course you don't, it never occurred to you that after high-school I'll need to go to varsity right?", I say while rolling my eyes.
"Well, I've decided to move out, it's been 2years since I finished high school and I've been busy being up to nothing".
"Like hell I'm gonna let you step foot out of this house knowing very well you ain't coming back", she responds with a warning tone.
"I think I'm old enough to make that decision on my own now", I utter back and leave for my room without leaving any room for more arguments that I very well know I won't win.
___________
The following day I woke up and headed straight for the shower.
30mins later I was all done. I walked into the kitchen and realized that my parents already had breakfast and left. They probably didn't take me seriously last night.
I wasn't disappointed at all though. I mean, this is a good opportunity for me to pack my s**t and leave.
I rushed back to my room and packed atleast three huge suitcases, a bag for my shoes, another for my toiletries and my makeup bag.
After a long hour of non-stop packing, I was all done and ready to go.
I called for a truck, knowing very well my luggage wouldn't fit in a taxi and went to a more distant cheap motel I can find.
The place didn't look that bad considering that I didn't come from a rich family or something. I checked in and the truck driver helped me carry my stuff to my room until all was done.
The room didn't look bad for a $350 for the whole month.
I decided to unload my bags. It took me over 2hours to put everything where I wanted it to be.
When I was done it was around 6pm so I decided to take a shower first before I headed out to get me some food.
I still need to figure out how I'm gonna raise money if I'm to live alone cause I'm currently jobless and an illegal immigrant here in Spain.
After my shower, I headed to the supermarket to buy some groceries for the time being. I came back with 4 carrier bags.
I packed everything in the drawers and only left a pack of noodles to make for dinner. As they say, 'no matter what you're going through in life, always eat first' and they couldn't be more right.
After dinner I switched on the small TV on the corner of the room.
I switched channels until I found what I was looking for, music channel of course.
I got up and started dancing. To say I love dancing would be an understatement of the year. I basically live to dance.
_______
It's been almost a month since I moved out of my parents' house and I've yet to find a job to pay for my coming month's rent.
Of course my parents have been looking for me. They called me a couple of times but of course I changed my phone and number so that they won't be able to track me down. I knew they couldn't go to the police considering that I don't have the right documentation to be in this country even though they do.
Today when I was walking in the motel from the supermarket the front receptionist handed me a business card. I didn't ask her any questions, I just took the card and thanked her.
When I got to my room, I looked over the business card. I decided to Google the name of the business and it turned out to be a strip club. Shocker, I know.
_______
It's been 3days since I got that business card from Molly.
Today is also the last day of the month and I've yet to find a job.
Around 12pm I decide to go ask Molly, the receptionist about the business card she gave me.
"Hey Molly, I've been meaning to ask you about the business card you handed me the other day",I said to her.
She smiled before responding, "Oh yeah, a friend of mine gave it to me just in case I 'needed a change in life', she said and laughed while air qouting the last part," but I thought you might need it more than I do ".
" Not saying you look like a stripper or anything but I... "she frantically continued with regret in her eyes so I stopped her.
" I understand what you mean Molly, and thank you ". I said putting her out of her misery.
" Oh, thank goodness ", she said now relieved that I understood her intentions.
With that I decided to head back to my room.
