CHAPTER 23

ASHTER STARR

I struggled to keep up with Zachary as he took long angry strides to the car. Damn these vampires why do they have to be so fast.

"Wait Zachary, hold up" I yelled for him as I ran as fast as I could to catch up with him while is retrieve my car keys from my pocket.

"Wait the car is loc--" I gasped mid sentence as Zachary yanked the door open. Busting the lock on the door. He got in and slammed it shut.

Damn that girl really got into his head to make him this angry. To be honest I was super scared to even go near him right now.

I sighed as I made my way to the car.

He better fix that because I am broke as f**k and I only got that car as a present like a month ago.

I climbed in the driver's seat since I get that he wasn't going to drive in his situation he might crash us into a tree. I put my seat belt on and started the car.

This was going to be an awkward drive.

"Who is that? is she a vampire too?" I finally broke the silence that surrounded us. Zachary was staring out the window with a hard emotionless expression. His hands were fisted in his lap as he remained silent.

After a couple of minutes, I decided he wasn't going to answer so I just gave up and focused on driving home.

"That's Vincent's ex girlfriend and yes obviously she is a vampire, we wouldn't come here if she wasn't" He finally answered but just enough so I could barely hear.

Vincent? Who the heck is Vincent? I don't even know who Vincent is...

I want to ask him but I don't want him to be annoyed and angry at me, especially in his state.

"Vincent is our dad, not biologically though but he is the one who took care of us for the past few years" He simply answered.

Geez, I forgot they can read minds damn how can I be so stupid.

"Ohh okay" I simply said, still a bit confused and curious at the same time. I mean so basically she became their mom at some point? Well if she did why does she hate them so much?.

"Why does the principal hate Damien so much?" I asked again, hoping he would answer but he didn't.

"Well can you at least tell me what's going to happen to Damien?"

"To be honest I don't really know..." He mumbled still looking out his window, not even looking at me the whole time.

"Great" I sarcastically muttered to myself "He is going to be okay though... Right?"

I turned to Zachary for confirmation but all I hoy was silence. I gave up on trying to get answers from him. They are all the same, they are never going to give me good answers. I rubbed my head in frustration and was also annoyed.

"I hope so... Since we have medicines I hope that will make him better somehow..." I finally heard but he had said it like it was more to himself. I gaped my mouth open a little but stopped myself, I was thinking about if I ask him something I won't get an answer and it will all just pile up in my head so I closed it and remained silent.

We finally got to my house and it was already dusk out, by the time I had climbed out of the car, Zachary was already inside my house. Geez, he really needs to learn to wait and to wait for the owner of the house before walking in as he owns it.

I followed in and closed the door behind me. My parents aren't here yet again because they always work late nowadays I don't even know what is the reason but I don't mind because I always have company.

I went to my room only to hear mumbling which was coming from Zachary, Claude, and Damien.

I don't want to eavesdrop but I couldn't help it. My body reacted on its own and pressed my ear gently against the door.

"We have to Damien, we have no other choice," Zachary said in a serious tone.

"Besides this is your fault, Damien, Zachary had warned you many times but you didn't listen. Now you will have to suffer the consequences" Claude said as I heard a shuffling from the inside. "And don't you dare blame us that this happens to you. we are tired of all this bullshit and we are getting tired of always saving your ass"

"I know, I just..." Damien's raspy voice was even more horsed than usual.

"It's because of her isn't it?" Zachary mumbled. I snapped my head back.

Was he talking about me?...

I pressed my ear harder to make sure I could hear Damien's answer.

"I... Just can't leave her alone Zach" He said in a very soft tone which made me shocked for a bit at how soft he sounded.

"Do you like her Damien?" Zachary seriously asked.

I held my breath as I waited for him to answer. But Claude's voice filled the silence instead.

"Come on you can tell us" I heard Claude but in when Damien didn't answer. "We are not against it but we are warning you, if you do like her it might put her life in danger since you are a vampire and she is a human, you know how things escalate whenever a Vampire will fall in love with a human."

As much as how painful that sounds. He was actually right. Well yeah I mean they work in the movies but we can't deny it that it will work out it could work out pretty well in real life.

Reality is more cruel than the movies.

"I-" I was about to hear Damien's answer so I leaned harder on the door.

"Sweetie, what are you doing?" I swore my soul jumped out of my body, but when I turn around to see my mom I felt relieved.

I immediately yanked my head away from the door.

There stood my mom with a confused expression as she glanced between me and my door.

"I---uh" I suddenly forgot how to form words.

"Why are you leaning in your own bedroom door? What's going on? Is someone here?" She bombarded me with questions as she walked closer to my bedroom to check.

"No!" I exclaimed a little too quickly and was nervous as I shielded her from coming into my room.

"No one is here mom, I mean why would someone be here at this time of night," I said more in a normal tone this time. She looked at me like I was a crazy person as she glance back at the door one last time before turning to me again.

"Since when did you guys come home?" I asked, suddenly changing the topic.

"Just a few minutes ago, I've been calling you the moment I got inside but you never answered so I got up here to call you to come down because dinner is ready, I brought some pizza from Domino's on the way home," My mom told me as she is still giving me a confused look.

"Okay, I'll be down in a second" I answered her.

She started walking back down the stairs as I heard her mumble,

'teenagers these days'

I sighed in relief as she finally made all the way down the stairs. I leaned against my door relieved that she didn't come in and find strangers in my room. She would be hella mad and ground me for months and maybe kick me out of the house, but my mom isn't like that. I shrugged and then turn to the door.

Just as I was about to turn the knob I suddenly remember the three of them. They surely heard everything and hide somewhere.

I opened the door quickly and closed it, I turn around to find them in the same spot. Unbothered.

"You guys didn't hear my mom?" I asked surprised because I thought they would be scrambling to hide or something.

"Yeah, we heard," The three of them said in unison.

"She could've come in here why do you guys look chill?" I responded.

"But she didn't" Zachary pointed out. God this boy is super annoying if he wasn't a vampire I would have totally smacked him in the face. "Besides we all knew that you would stop her since you have been eavesdropping right outside the door."

"What..." I asked as my cheeks grew hot red. "I... I wasn't... I didn't"

"She was?" Damien asked facing Zachary as both of his friends' smirk.

"Damn we thought you knew since you have the sharpest mind reading ability" Claude commented and Damien just shrugged.

"Anyway, we don't want your mom to be suspicious. She is waiting for you." Zachary said as he rummaged through his backpack and retrieved the small vault that contains his medicine and the antidote that the principal gave to us. "You should go downstairs, I'll give Damien his medicine"

"But-" I sighed and nodded agreeing, I don't want my mom to come barging in here "Okay I will be right back"

I quickly went to Damien and hold his cold hand gently as I look at him in the eyes "Please take care of yourself and get better..."

I turned to leave but I felt a cold hand grab my wrist. I turned toward Damien who grabbed it.

"I... Uhhh- thank you for making an effort to get my medicine" He thanked me in a gentle voice.

I smiled back and nodded before I turned to leave again, feeling his soft hand slowly let go of my wrist. But before I made it to the door I bit my lip and ran back to him again.

I quickly came back to his side again as he look up at me with a confused face before I leaned down and placed a kiss on his cheek.

"Uhhhmm..." I felt my cheeks burn, as I saw him blush a little.

"Okay, okay you can go now Ashter your mom is going to be paranoid if you won't go down," He said but not in a rude or in a mean tone.

"Fine, I'll be right back as soon as I finished" I informed them as I heard my mom yell for me.

"Yes, mom I'm coming!!" I yelled back before running out of my bedroom.

"Bye, please don't choke on your food" I heard Claude comment while laughing a little as I ran out of my room.

I just made a small chuckle before finally going downstairs.
