CHAPTER 39

ASHTER STARR

"You alright there Ash?" Jane asked with a concerned tone in her voice.

I bring my gaze up from my blank paper and look at Jane and Sophie's concerned faces. We are all in the library together studying and doing assignments that we have to do since our biology class dismissed us early because our professor had an emergency. I, however, had trouble focusing on the book in front of me.

"What?" I replied dumbly, as the pen dropped from my hands "Uhhh-, yeah sorry... Did you guys say something?"

"No, but I was wondering why you look so out of it today?" Jane reaches over and places a hand on top of my head and ruffles my hair a bit, a sympathetic smile lightly painted across her lips.

I let out a quiet sigh before shaking my head.

"Sorry, I was just tired and a little overwhelmed with, school, sports, the play and everything" I lied "it's just one of those days. You know what I mean"

It's not like I don't trust Jane and Sophie, it's just that my situation with Damien needs to stay between us. Not to mention they don't know I have something with Damien so it's best not to share it with them. Especially, Sophie, I don't want to mention anything about Damien to her because it's obvious that she hates him or I don't know what is their status but I know they aren't good friends.

Also, I don't want to go complaining and crying to every person that I talk to. I don't want other people to get involved.

Jane and Sophie don't look very convinced with my reply, but nevertheless, Sophie spoke in a soft tone "Okay. Well we hope you feel better then and always remember we'll be here if you need us"

I reached across the table and squeezes Sophie and Jane's hands gratefully. I appreciate them for not pushing me for information while still offering to be a listening ear whenever I need it.

I'm lucky I have this kind of friends, if I don't I don't know what will happen to me right now.

"Okay... enough about my dejected mood" I shake my head from side to side and straighten my body up "How about you guys? Any happy news I can hopefully rub off of?"

Jane smiles at Sophie, silently gesturing for her to go first, and immediately a happy grin gets plastered on her face.

"Well, last night, remember the boy from the baseball team I told you about?" Sophie asked and we nodded.

"So Luke came over yesterday and we had a movie marathon night together, so it was a Netflix and chill night thing and-" Jand and I start to giggle immaturely at the s****l innuendo Sophie unintentionally put into her sentence. "What are you assholes laughing about? Is my story that funny? what did I say?"

"Netflix and chill," Jane cracks up, hand covering her mouth. I was also trying my best not to be too loud. It's not quite working considering the various looks we are getting from random students around us.

"Aww our little Sophie is still innocent" Jane teased a little more. She really is having fun teasing people.

"Byt that's literally what we did," Sophie frowns, obviously still confused at what is tickling me and Jane's peaches so much "What's so funny?"

Jane clams down just enough to be able to speak properly. "It means that you and Luke basically had-"

I reached over the table and clasp a hand over Jane's mouth stopping her from continuing.

"Shush you green-minded person, Let her finish the story first then we'll tell her at the end" I chuckled with a wink before letting go.

Jane gave me a thumbs up and we both reverted our attention back to Sophie, who still looks utterly perplexed, but she lets it go. "Okay... You guys are so weird, but, so, yeah, well during one of the movies, he fell asleep with his head on my chest which is cute because he look so precious, then when the movie ended I gently shook him awake so he could go back to his own room and sleep, but he just mumbled that he didn't want to go" Sophie's smile grows even wider "So basically we just cuddle for the whole night until we fell asleep"

"It was only the second time he slept over with me so of course, I haven't gotten used to it, but I don't think I will ever be able to get used to it either. Sleeping with someone in the innocent sense of the phrase is one of the most amazing things in the world. It's liking and trusting someone so much that you use them for warmth and comfort and protection. I didn't sleep until a long while after Luke did because my heart was just too happy. He makes my heart happy. He is my first boyfriend and I may be a bit naïve, but all I know is that I like him and I like him a lot"

Jane and I jutted our bottom lips out in a pout as we listed to Sophie speak. A blink man could be able to see just how strongly Sophie feels about this boy.

"Eurgh sounds like you have fallen too deeply and it's so sickening" Jane jokingly said as she pretend to be disgusted.

"You are just bitter you don't have someone else" Sophie stuck her tongue out to Jane.

I watched them with a smile as they teased each other.

I would be lying if I said Sophie's monologue didn't remind me of Damien. We both have slept with each other a few times now. Even we just confessed to each other after he left, it still counted to me.

"So do you guys want to te me exactly what you were laughing at earlier?" Sophie says with a raised eyebrow, pulling me out of my thought.

Jane and I exchange looks and Jane smirks.

"It's basically coded for hooking up since no one actually just watched Netflix and chills" She laughs "I mean come on."

Sophie's cheeks blush furiously and her eyes widen "You dirty pigs!! Why didn't you tell me!"

"Of course it was fun to tease you Sophia the first" Jane smirked once again and Sophie just groaned irritatingly.

"Anyway enough about me, what about you Jane? We never heard you talk about boys, like ever. Are you into girls?" Sophie questioned as she looked at Jane interestedly.

"No, silly I am straight If I like girls I would be dating you and Ashter right now" Jane send us a devilishly smile which made us chuckle quietly "Anyways, I'm not really looking for someone right now, I just like to be by myself for a while because being single rocks. I don't like the idea of me being taken. A relationship just stresses me out you know"

"Right our big mighty Jane is an independent woman who eats metal for breakfast lunch and dinner"

"SHUT UP!" I watch them as they continue to banter all over again, at how it was much better it is to be taken and how much freedom you could get when you are single.

I just let out a small laugh watching the two.

At least their relationships are going well.

DAMIEN LOCKWOOD.

"Okay so this is the plan for tonight," Vincent said as he laid out a map on our discussion table. "You Zach will go to this town and get some specific herbs and items that we will be using to make potions, as for Claude and Maxima you are in charge of hunting tonight because we are running out of food supplies, I mean blood supplies and for Damien, you are just going to say here because we can't risk sending you out"

I was about to protest when our dad spoke again.

"And don't you dare argue about it, we been through this a lot of times but I will still remind you though" Vincent looked at me with a stern expression on his face. "You are barely healing, so I'm sorry to say this but you are going to stay here for a little while."

"Gosh I'm so tired of you being overprotective to me, I am a grown-up I can take care of myself" I groaned as I sat down on the chair while crossing my arms on my chest. I really missed going out to explore, being inside of our base is rubbing off on me, it's really getting boring day by day.

"Take care of yourself? If you can take care of yourself you wouldn't have this hole in your stomach" Zachary sarcastically but in our conversation. "We wouldn't be in here if you ca-"

Vincent raised his palm at Zachary motioning for him to stop at finishing his sentence. Zachary obliged and quietly sat on the chair.

"I'm only being protective because I want to make sure you are all safe. I'm not going to lose you. All of you are the only family that I have left. I mean we have other families out there but I'm talking about who is here right now. We have lost so many people from the past decades that we've been alive, but we still haven't lost each other and I don't plan on losing any of you any time soon. Even though we aren't related, you guys are like my family, my sons, and daughters, from what I know family always look out for each other. So forgive me for not letting you go out" Vincent expressed softly. From the past few years that we have been together, this was the only time Vincent showed us his emotions and affections. I was in shock to hear those and I could tell everyone is too just by looking at their faces.

"I'm forever grateful for all you've done to keep us safe Vincent, I'm really glad you found me and I found you guys" Sima was the first one to speak as she wiped a tear that manages to escape her eyes.

"Of course it is my pleasure to keep you all safe, so please just obey me just this once okay? I promise you we are going to get through this eventually" Vincent softly smiled at me which is rare so I just nodded at him.

"I just wish we can explore and travel the world without worrying too much, I wish we are free from these wolves because I'm really tired of running" I sighed, and then I felt a hand on my shoulder and I looked up to see my family looking at me.

"We will get there one day," They all said in unison.

I smiled.

"Yeah, it's all thanks to you guys"

"Well enough of these sappy talks, let's get ready for the things we need to do" Zachary let out a small chuckle.

"Okay that was sweet, I never know vampires could have feelings" An unknown woman's voice filled the room and all our heads snapped in her direction.

"We can't really have one nice moment together without somebody ruining it" Vincent growled at the intruder.

"Who are you? and how did you get in here?!" I angrily asked as I stared at the woman by the doorway. But the women ignored my glare and faced Maxima's direction. "How did you find us? Our base is hidden and far away from the town!?"

"Oh, I just came to take what is mine right Maxima?" The women smirked at Maxima who growled.

"Violet" Maxima hissed "How did you find me you freak! I thought I removed your memories of me"

"Well have you heard of pretending? It's so easy to deceive you. Turns out the potion you gave to me was just to make me tipsy, so I kinda go along and act like I forget you till you leave, and then before you leave I simply cast you a tracking spell so I can find you easily. It took a few years, but I'm glad now that I found you, I can finally get what you owed to me" The woman smirked as she lifted her hands casting a spell. Maxima fell onto her knees, holding her head in pain as the woman cast a spell on her.

Zachary's reacted by charging at her, but with the flick of her wrist, she snapped Zachary's neck and be fell to the ground. He did the same to the others, they were all in the ground but they are not dead yet this woman just made them sleep.

I growled angrily, running towards her as well but she used magic to shield herself from my attack, then again, with the mere flick of her wrist, she snapped my neck making me fall asleep on the ground as well. The last thing I heard was her talking to Maxima.

I gasped as I woke up from my sleep. I turned around to check the others. They are still knocked put so I scrambled over to them.

"Guys, wake up," I hurriedly shook them up, causing for them to slowly arise from sleep.

"f**k, what happened?" Zachary asked as he sat up. "Where is Sima?"

"That freaking witch took her" Vincent snarled.

"So that was a witch? What the heck is a witch doing in here?" Claude commented as he rubbed his temples.

"I don't care let's just go and kill that b***h" I said, I am ready to go on a rampage and kill anyone that tries to stop me. One of our family just got kidnapped and I won't let them hurt her.

"Hey, I already told you to stay he-"

"No I won't! I'm coming with you guys" I cut him off. "I'm not gonna stay here knowing one of our family just got kidnap, you can't stop me"

"Fine, just before we go, let's think this through. We don't really know anyone in this town and the witch who took Sima could be anywhere. I think it's wise if we ask someone for help that lives here" Vincent explained. "And another thing we are all going to stick together no matter what. We are not going to separate ways this time."

We all nodded vigorously because we are getting impatient. Who knows what that witch is doing with Sima right now.

"Come one let's go save Sima"
