ASHTER STARR
"Are you okay Ashter? You seem distracted" Jessica noticed. We are currently eating pizza in my bed while watching a film that Jess picked. "Ever since I got here you have been spacing out, what's wrong?"
"Oh sorry, nothing... It's just I'm nervous for tomorrow" I half-lied as I continue to munch on my pizza.
"Oh don't be, I know you will do great" Jessica patter my shoulder. "Anyways where is your bathroom? My bladder is crying for me to pee"
"When you go out of my room to go to your left then you will see a small door, that's the bathroom" I instructed her and she nodded.
I watch her get out of my room and once she got out I let out a sigh. Now I'm ruining our sleepover because I am thinking too much. I feel bad for Jessica. She must have thought that I was awkward having her around today.
I looked over at my desk where the letters are sitting.
I haven't read Damien's letter yet. I don't want to because it might ruin my mood and that's bad because we have a tournament tomorrow it might affect my whole gameplay even though I will try not to think about it too much, I still think that it will distract me. So I decided to read it tomorrow after our game.
This whole thing already affected me today so I won't let it ruin me for tomorrow.
Geez, why can't I just rest peacefully for just a whole day, without these wolves trying to ruin my life?
It's not too much to ask right?
I thoughts wolves are the ones who will protect the people in their town but I guess everybody is wrong because based on what I experienced the vampires are the ones protecting us humans.
I just wish these wolves just stop ruining our lives...
I sighed once again as I wish that my vampire friends are okay out there.
I shook the thoughts away and just enjoy this sleepover night with Jessica.
After a few seconds, Jessica came back and we continue to watch the movie.
After the movie, Jessica and I talk about some random stuffs, mostly about boys and volleyball. I was preoccupied the whole night but Jessica managed to take my head out of the clouds. We eventually ended up talking a lot it's nice to be honest because I forgot about anything that's bothering me for a while.
We spend the next 30 minutes laughing, chatting, and making a mess. We even had a pillow fight. It was very fun. We are in the midst of laughing as I heard a small knock on my door.
I figured it was my parents so I yelled. "Come in!"
"Oh well hello girls" We both stopped laughing and smiled at my mom who was walking towards us.
I am grateful that my parents are already here, I feel much safer to have more people around.
"Hello Mrs. Starr, it was nice to finally meet you, I'm Jessica, Ashter's teammate" Jessica politely greeted with a small wave as she sat up properly.
"It was nice to meet you too dear" My mom greeted back sweetly. "I hope you are comfortable here and Ashter is not causing you too much trouble"
"No not at all Mrs. Starr everything is wonderful, we are just messing around for a bit" Jessica let out a small chuckle.
"Okay dear, anyways I must warn you, Ashter snores loudly at night"
"MOM!!" I complained as both of them just laughed at me.
"I'm kidding honey," She said as her laughter subsided, my mom takes one look at my room that is full of mess and sighs "Ahh it's so messy in here" My mom pointed and speaks sternly but her eyes are soft and sweet as to not be too intimidating.
"Clean that up before you go to bed okay?" Jessica and I instantly stood up, giggling quietly as we rushed to clean up our mess.
With that, the night proceeds peacefully. Jessica and I quickly cleaned the mess in my room.
Jessica groaned and collapses on my bed after cleaning, I chuckled and walked over to Jessica who's face down on my small pillow.
"Tired?" I giggled while she whines and flipped over to look up at me.
"Maybe a little" She sat up. "But I'm also starving"
"What we just ate like an hour ago" I looked at her to check if she was kidding but she wasn't.
"I know but I gotta feed this little tummy" Jessica sat up as she patted her stomach. I giggled.
"I wanted too but it's getting late, we have to wake up early, we should go to bed"
"Fine, tomorrow then, my tummy can wait" Jessica grinned like a kid.
We ended up talking a lot more. But when we noticed the time is getting late we said goodnight to each other let sleep take over our bodies.
Tomorrow is our big day. I hope everything will go fine.
-
I woke up before my alarm goes off so I canceled it before it can wake Jessica. I sighed as I got up to check the time. It was 3:40. Damn, why did I have to wake up early? Luckily I slept for 7 hours so I guess that's enough.
I went downstairs to check the fridge so I can make breakfast but it was empty my mom must have forgotten to buy groceries.
I shut the fridge and decided to go and get Jessica and I some breakfast since it's pretty early too, I still have some time to go out. I left a note on Jessica's forehead in case she wakes up. I took my keys from our usual keyholder before I exited my house. I don't really know if I'm gonna find a coffee shop that opens at this hour.
Then I remember that the nearest Starbucks is always open for 24 hours. So I headed there. I was driving slowly since my head and my body is asleep yet, consider the hour.
On the way to the coffee shop, I was thinking about Damien's letter. I wonder what was in it. Is it goodbye or is it a sweet letter letting me know that they are coming home?... I don't know... I was thinking that it was a bad idea not to read that letter it's making my overthinking worse, it just made more questions in my head. I honestly want to end all this confusion inside my head. It's never-ending.
My thoughts got interrupted as I reached Starbucks. I entered the shop and the aroma of coffee and fresh-baked bread filled my nose. I felt my phone vibrate from my pocket. I took it out and checked to see Jessica's name on the screen.
"Hey. What's up? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything is fine. I just woke up with a freaking note on my forehead you jerk, you made me hella confused when I woke up. Anyways I was just checking up on you, where are you?"
"I'm at Starbucks getting some breakfast for us, our fridge is empty so I can't make something and I don't want to wake my parents up so here I am. Is there anything you're in the mood for?"
"Not really, at this point, I'll take anything"
"Alright, I'll be back soon, don't miss me too much" I chuckled and I heard a snort from the other side.
"As if, anyways thank you and drive safe Ash"
"Of course, bye"
I hung up and finally ordered coffee and some food before I went back home.
When I got home I saw Jessica was already in the living room sitting on the couch, she looks a bit tired.
"Hey, Jess I'm back," I announced quietly her head snapped in my direction and gave me a sleepy smile "Are you okay? You look like s**t"
"Yeah just tired." She nodded while yawning.
"Well, I brought you some coffee and pastries I hope that will cheer you up" I informed her as I showed her the paper bag that contains our breakfast.
"Thank you so much you are a lifesaver"
We ate quickly before we decided to get ready to leave. We headed upstairs to change into our uniforms and doubled checked out bags to make sure everything is there.
I sighed and checked my phone, it's almost 5:30 now we should get going.
"Do you have everything?" Jessica questioned as we descend the stairs.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I do." I let out a shaky sigh, as stress begins to resurface. Jessica ruffles my hair and gave me a calm smile.
"Relax. You didn't forget anything I'm sure of it. You even packed your special letters from your boyfriend Damien and from Sima" Jessica gave me a side glance. I was taken aback so I stopped in my tracks as I look at her like I was waiting for her to explain.
"I didn't mean to invade your privacy but I saw it since last night, I just didn't want to mention it to you since it's the reason why you have been so distracted last night,"
"You knew all along?" I asked in disbelief. I was also impressed at how sharp her eyesight is because she even saw the names on the letter.
"Yeah, you are too obvious duh, you've been staring at it for the whole night" Jessica truthfully said.
"I guess I'm not good at hiding things" I sighed as we continue to walk downstairs. "But I just want this to be clear. Damien is not my boyfriend, we are just... Friends"
"You don't have to hide anything at me, your secret is always safe with me m, but I am going to need some explanation after the game, no pressure" She winked at me. "Anyways, don't think about it too much alright? It might affect your game later, just stay focused"
I sighed and nodded, I still felt a little nervous and afraid, to be honest.
Jessica gives me a small smile and placed her hands firmly on my shoulders
"Relax girl. Everything is okay and it's all going to go smoothly okay? I'm here to help and listen to you if something is bothering you okay? Just don't let your thoughts eat you up" Jessica advised and I nodded appreciatively.
"Thank you Jess really... If it wasn't for you I won't survive the night with my own mind geez" I let out a shaky sigh as we stood in the garage "So are we gonna ride your car or mine, we don't need to bring two cars since we are going to ride a bus"
"I'm glad I can help you Ash" Jessica smiled at me again "Yours, since I live much further than your house, I'm just gonna park my car here in your garage is that okay?"
"Yeah of course"
"Thank you, now let's get going. Nicole just chatted in our group chat saying that she is already there"
"Okay let's go"
We got there in just a few minutes and meet Nicole. We are the only people here yet, so we check the bus that we are going to ride for 2 hours. We already placed our bags in the seats we choose of course Jessica and I will sit together. Not too long before my other teammates start to join us, it's obvious to their faces that it's full of excitement. Soo ln the bus was full and it's already 5:25, there are only five minutes left till we leave.
"Alright, we have everyone?" Our coach did a headcount and smiles.
"Yes coach"
"Alright! Let's get going, Good luck to us girls!"
