I stretch as I wake. My entire body is sore, and I groan from the pain. The shift had been painful. I was afraid it would be, but that didn’t prepare me for how it would feel or how terrible I would feel now.
“What do you need, Mate?” Joseph asks me.
I shake my head. “I don’t know. Everything hurts.”
Peter squirms in his bassinet, but he isn’t awake yet. I sigh in relief because that means I have a few moments to wake up and get moving before he cries. I need to relieve the stiffness in my joints.
Joseph goes into the bathroom and returns, holding a bottle of lotion. He sits beside me on the bed and pulls the blankets back before putting some in his hand and rubbing my leg.
