“You’re late,” the king says as I finally enter his office.
I shrug. “Peter had a long night.”
“All the more reason for you two to sleep apart,” he tells me with a roll of his eyes. “It’s ridiculous, honestly.”
“It’s not.” I can’t say much more, but I need him to think our bond is still in place. “Besides, I need to stay close to the heir. What if someone attacks?”
“In the palace?”
“Anything can happen,” I say. Hopefully, he’ll forget about it and just think I’m paranoid instead.
He shakes his head. “I need to send you to Silver Moon Pack today. It’s turning into an Alpha Challenge.”
“No.”
He tilts his head and arches an eyebrow. I don’t know how I ever became comfortable enough to tell him no, but it was a mistake. I need to remember my place.
