The next day passed in the same fashion, with Eleanor riding to school with her sister, and her morning classes going smoothly. She was happy her junior year was almost over. She was ready to get out of Forks and go to college. Eleanor thought, maybe foolishly, that once she left Forks, she wouldn't have to worry about hurting anyone anymore. Her biggest fear was hurting one of her friends or a member of her family.
Bella dropped her tray down next to Eleanor, causing the girl to jump and look up towards her. "He's not here. After biology yesterday, I saw him in the office trying to change his classes so he didn't have to be near me."
Eleanor pitied the girl already. She was talking about her biology class yesterday, which the two girls shared. Bella had gotten paired up with Edward Cullen, and Eleanor could tell how tense he had got once she sat next to him.
Of course Eleanor was curious, but she refrained herself from using her powers and entering Edward's mind.
"He keeps to himself, I said that yesterday. I had classes with him last year, and he acted like that whenever he got paired with someone else." Eleanor attempted to comfort her new friend, but she had a feeling it wasn't working.
And of course, she was lying. She had never seen Edward Cullen - or any of the Cullens - work with anyone outside of their little circle. Edward had been a complete jerk to Bella, for no reason, and although they had just met, it pissed Eleanor off.
"Did he ever disappear after?"
Eleanor's silence gave Bella her answer, and she sighed, "didn't think so."
She felt eyes on her, and she turned her head over to the Cullen table. Alice and Emmett had their golden eyes trained on the Stanley girl, while Jasper and Rosalie stared down Bella. Eleanor focused her gaze on Alice and Emmett and moved both of her hands beneath the table, before waving her fingers in their direction.
The two quickly looked dazed, and turned their gaze elsewhere, obviously feeling the effects of Eleanor's scarlet whirls. She looked down, feeling bad that she had to use her abilities on someone, and turned her attention back to Bella. "Don't worry about him. If you're really that upset about it, wait until he gets back, and then confront him about it, okay?"
Eleanor didn't bother waiting for Bella to answer, she just grabbed her bag, and walked out of the cafeteria.
---
Eleanor sat in her bedroom, moving her fingers slowly, watching the waves of scarlet roll around her fingers. A knock sounded against her door, and she quickly put her hand down, and snapped her head over to her door, "come in!"
Mrs. Stanley opened her daughter's door, and popped her head in, "hey, Jessica was in a car accident. Do you want to come to the hospital with me?"
"Oh, my God," Eleanor said, and stood up, "yes."
The teen quickly pulled on shoes, and followed her mum down the stairs, and climbed into the car. "What happened?"
Eleanor's mum shrugged, "they didn't tell me much. They said she was okay, and she wanted me to come down there."
"So she's not hurt, right?"
"No, El."
Eleanor and Jessica weren't as close as some siblings were, but no matter what, they did care for each other. Eleanor hated to see her sister or her mum get hurt. She hated even more that she could possibly be a reason they do get hurt.
Mrs. Stanley parked her car, and the two got out of the car and headed into the emergency room. Eleanor walked quickly, and followed her mum to the room they were told to go into.
"Jess!" Eleanor smiled, once she saw her sister was okay. She pulled her sister into a short hug, shocking Jessica. "What happened?"
Jessica laughed, and let go of her sister, "some i***t crashed into my side of the car. They did more damage to my car than me, but they insisted that I had to come here and have a 'thorough' check over. Oh, and I'm so glad I did. The doctor who checked up on me is Dr. Cullen."
Eleanor raised her eyebrows and chuckled, "sounds like you were really lucky to be a car crash then."
"No kidding. Anyway, mum, Dr. Cullen should be in a few minutes to give you papers to sign."
"Sounds good," Mrs. Stanley said, and stuck up two thumbs, "I'm glad you're okay, kiddo."
El smiled at her mum. Sometimes she felt bad for her. She had to raise two girls on her own, after their father left her when they were only 8 years old. Sometimes, she thought that maybe if her father hadn't left she wouldn't have developed strange abilities. Other times she thought that theory was stupid.
A knock sounded at the door, and Eleanor heard it open and close. "Mrs. Stanley! Nice to meet you, I'm Dr. Cullen."
Eleanor stared up at him, and in that moment, decided he was the most beautiful man she had ever seen. His hair was blonde and tied in well with his skin, which was just as pale as his adopted children's, and his eyes were the same shade of gold. Her eyes ran over his body, and she couldn't help but think how good he looked in a tie and lab coat.
She suddenly felt a jab in her back, and she looked away from the man, and over to her sister, who was smirking. Dr. Cullen suddenly turned his attention over to Eleanor, and froze for no less than a second, before he composed himself.
He stuck out his hand, "I'm guessing you're Eleanor."
The girl eyed his hand, before slowly raising hers and placing it in his, almost flinching away from how cold he was, "you'd be correct."
He flashed a dazzling smile at her, and although she was sitting down, she suddenly felt dizzy. "Anyway, Jessica is fine. She does have a small concussion from hitting her head once the other car hit her, but other than that she's all good. I just need you to sign these papers, and then you'll all be good to go."
Mrs. Stanley thanked the doctor, while Eleanor began to stare at him again. She wasn't subtle about it, and found herself blushing once he met her gaze.
"All right, we're all good." Her mum snapped her out of yet another gaze, and she handed the papers to Dr. Cullen. "Thanks again, Doctor."
"You're welcome. Have a good day, everyone." He turned to Eleanor, and smiled at her again, before leaving the room.
"Oh, my God Eleanor," Jessica laughed, "you couldn't stop staring at him!"
Her cheeks grew warm, and glared at her sister, "shut up, or I'm going to give you something worse than a concussion."
"It'd give you another reason to stare at Dr. Cullen," Jess said, laughing louder, and standing up from the bed.
Eleanor rolled her eyes, her face burning red, and she quickly left the room, with her sister and her mum giggling behind her.
