For a moment, I forgot to breathe.
Leo has a girlfriend? That’s impossible. I shook my head.
‘Brad overheard him talking to her on the phone when he went to the men’s room,’ Anna continued.
‘No, there must be some mistake.’
‘I couldn’t understand much of what he was saying,’ Brad chimed in on speakerphone. ‘He was talking in Italian, of course, but something about his tone made me feel uneasy.’
‘What do you mean?’ I asked, my voice shaking. I dug my fingernails into the palm of my free hand as if that would make the impact of what Brad was about to tell me more tolerable.
