Chapter 37 ‘Demitria,’ cried Mum, bursting into tears the moment she saw me slumped in the waiting room chair. Our embrace was long and hard. I inhaled the scent of home. I didn’t realise how much I’d missed her until now. ‘Hey, Dem,’ Anthony said, giving me a quick kiss on the cheek. ‘How’s Dad? Any more news?’ I passed Mum a tissue and dabbed my own eyes. ‘He’s improving, slowly. The doctor checked him a couple of hours ago, I think.’ I’d lost all concept of time and didn’t even know what day it was. ‘She said his signs are good and we should know more in the morning, provided he remains stable.’ Anthony nodded. ‘I have to get to work.
