SELENE
He just walked out without sparing me a glance and I felt anger boiling deep inside of me. I didn't know what to do and would prefer to just get something done rather than stay home and do nothing.
A knock on the door jerked me out of my thoughts. “Come in,” I let out a tired tone.
Irene walked in with a couple of bags, and I was a bit surprised, wondering what it was for, since I'd never seen anything so extravagant. It contained various brands of outfits.
Sorry to disturb you, your Highness, but the king sent me to give you this. He stated that you might need it and that would be good for you.
I didn't know what to say as she started bringing out everything. I have my clothes, he didn't have to do all this. It seemed a bit extra, I told her.
She smiled, “Well, you're the queen now, and it's normal for you to get all these, plus you have to look extra because all eyes are on you, so basically, you need all this.”
Her explanation only made me hate this life more. I never wished for this but here I am, because Isabella was such a chicken that ran away with her lover.
What a fairytale!
She started arranging them in my closet, but I didn't bother getting up as I was already bored out of my mind and needed something to keep me going before I went insane.
“Irene,” I called, and she answered almost immediately. “Yes ma'am.”
“Where's Luther working?”
She was hesitant a bit but answered, He works in his company. Why do you ask? She inquired.
I'm only asking because I would like to visit him. There's nothing here, and I feel like it'd be better if I just visited him. I could even give him lunch or something, I suggested.
The look on her face was giving me goosebumps as she didn't seem too comfortable with it. “That's not a bad thing, but His Majesty is so busy that he wouldn't even have time for you,” she said.
“Wow,” I scoffed. “I don't care if he's busy, I just want to see him and, since he's my husband, is there anything bad about that?”
She couldn't say anything more and just remained quiet, slowly bowing her head to face the ground. I would only listen to her Majesty. I'm sorry if I passed my boundary. I just don't want you to stress yourself over anything.
She walked away, but I was feeling bad. I never meant to throw a fit, but she was just acting somehow, which was a bit suspicious to me and I couldn't just sit back and act like a fool.
I changed into a business casual outfit. I knew I was the queen now, but I didn't want to draw unnecessary attention and bicker by dressing excessively.
“This will be your driver for the day ma'am,” Irene led me to the garage that was filled with multiple cars, causing my jaw to drop.
“Woah,” I opened my mouth wide agape and was bewildered by the sight. I didn't know that Luther would own so many cars. What does he need so much for?
His Majesty has a thing for cars, so this is just one of his many cars. This is nothing compared to the other collection of things he has. Irene praised.
I guess the lousy king does have a hobby after all.
“So which one would you love to take out your Highness?” The driver — Aman asked.
I looked closely at the various cars around, thinking of which one was the best to choose, and then a black car caught my attention. It looked so beautiful that I just couldn't resist it.
“I'd take this one,” I pointed to it.
I walked up to it, but the driver stopped me before I could enter. What happened? Does it need to be serviced or something? I inquired.
He shook his head in response, “There's nothing wrong with this car, but it's just that it's His Majesty’s favorite, and he's never allowed anyone else to take it out, let alone get in it without his permission.”
After hearing his explanation, I decided to just let it go but something else caught my attention and I had a plan, thinking of a good idea.
“I like this one very much, I want to take it out with me,” I told him. He didn't look convinced and was contemplating what to do.
I know you want to take it, but I might lose my job if you take this car. His Majesty strictly told me not to let anyone else ride in this car. I'm sorry your Highness, he apologized.
I understood his reasons, but still, I wanted to see the pissed-off face on Luther's. I don't want to go out in any other car. I want to take this one instead, otherwise you'd make me feel bad, I pouted, making a sad expression.
He couldn't say otherwise and just nodded in response. “You can take it, but we have to make sure he doesn't see it, or it's getting any scratched, so I won't lose my job,” he ordered.
You don't have to worry about that. I will make sure that you don't lose your job.
We entered the car, and he drove us to Luther's company. The sight of the company was magnificent and struck me deeply.
We entered, and I couldn't stop gawking at the environment. I only had Irene by my side, since I didn't want Luther to see Aman. I made my way to the reception nearby.
“Hello, I'm here to see the king.”
“What's your name?” The brunette receptionist asked and I told her. “Do you have an appointment with him?” She asked.
I didn't think of that but just thought that she'd let me in because of my position only to find out that she doesn't even know who I am.
“Um… I'm a very important person to him.”
“I'm sorry, but you can't see him without an appointment.”
I felt disappointed, thinking about what to do, and then someone called my name. I turned to see my worst nightmare, someone I never imagined I would see.
“Zed?!”
