SELENE
I started panicking thinking of what to do as he approached me and my heart started beating loudly. He had a broad grin on his face as he made his way towards me. I looked around, thinking of what to do.
“Long time no see,” he approached me. He tried touching me, but Irene walked quickly to cover me before he could.
“I'm sorry, but the queen is not allowed to interact with any strangers that she doesn't know,” Irene stated.
Zed was utterly confused and looked up at me with a weird expression on his face. He didn't understand what she was saying and kept looking at me for an answer.
“Queen? She's my ex–
“That's my sister,” I interrupted quickly before he could make a recording of his statement. He was taken aback at first but was quick to comprehend things.
“I'm assuming that you're Isabella?” He asked and I nodded in response. He stretched his hands forth to me, I'm sorry, I thought that you were Selene. It's nice to meet you, by the way.
We shook hands together, and I couldn't help but feel that tingly feeling in me. It felt odd but also warm. I was quick to withdraw my hands from his before things escalated.
“Likewise,” I responded quickly. I'm sorry to be the bad guy here, but I have to go. I'm trying to see Luther, but these people aren't letting me up there for some reason.
He arched his brows, showing a confused expression, and walked up to the lazy at the front. He started discussing with her and she gasped suddenly. I guess she realized my identity.
I'm so sorry, Luna. I didn't know that it was you, I was only doing my job and trying to protect the king. Please don't take it to heart, she apologized.
I understood her reasons and didn't take it to heart, rather I accepted her apologies and walked with Zed leading us up front. I couldn't help but get flashbacks of our past together, and it was only causing triggering feelings.
“Here we are,” he pointed to the door nearby. I wanted to know what he was doing here and how he easily had access to the area, but we were interrupted by a loud voice.
I am paying you a huge amount of money and this is the trash you present? I'm going to be at a loss here if you don't get that asshole presented to me and make sure he's alive.
Luther's voice was very loud and frightening. I couldn't help but get a bit curious to know just what he was talking about. He sounded outraged that I feared to even step in.
“He has a bad temper, but he's not usually like that,” Zed interjected.
That was another issue. How did he know so much about Luther? What's their relationship together I was getting lost.
He didn't bother to knock and just walked in alongside us. Luther's outraged expression eased up after coming face to face with us. He gestures with his eyes for the guy to leave.
“Hello Luther,” Zed greeted, walking over to him.
Luther didn't care that Zed referred to him by his first name. Now I was more than curious to know what kind of relationship they had with one another.
“What the f**k are you doing here?” He demanded to know, not bothering to greet me first or something.
I rolled my eyes at his annoying behavior. Aren't you going to greet me first? The last time I checked the couples handbook, you should be ecstatic about my presence.
He scoffed, “This is my place of work and the last thing I need right now is someone disturbing or adding to my anger.”
His stern expression gave me the chills and the tone he used to talk to me gave me every hint that he was upset and was still angered by the situation.
“What's your problem? I know you're angry, but you don't have to vent it all out on me. I'm not here as your wife but rather as an onlooker. I'm in search of a job.
He stood quiet for a bit, his hands tucked into his pockets before he burst into an incontestable sound of laughter. It was annoying, but I think it's the first time I've seen him laugh so much.
He managed to stop laughing, getting control of himself, and said, “You're the queen and what you should be doing is staying home and performing your duty.”
Well, the house is very boring, and I would much prefer to work here with you. We could run the company side by side and take care of everything.
He smirked and then turned to Zed. Why did you bring her here in the first place? She's nothing but trouble and is only adding to my headache.
She wanted to be here, and I would be in trouble if I defied her orders. She's Luna after all, he answered.
He took a deep breath, ran his hands through his hair, and said, “If it's a job that you want, then it's a job that you'll get, so tell me what you like doing and any experiences you've had before.”
“Is this like an interview?”
“Just answer my questions,” he demanded.
I chirped in excitement and took a seat. He groaned out of frustration, making his way back to his seat and I could tell that I was the reason.
“Well, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in business, and although I didn't get to work much, I worked as an intern once, so I'm more fluent in the accounting department,” I told him.
“What exactly do you hate doing?”
She hissed" I hate taking notes, sitting in one place all day, answering calls all day. It's just not for me.
“I see,” he started, thinking deeply. I know just the perfect job for you. You deserve the secretary position, it's the only available one and the best one yet.
